The green club-shaped beakers, or Keulengläser, were popular glasses used for beer-drinking. They became more common during the second half of the 15th century. The oldest of these slender beakers decorated with a glass trail were sometimes almost half a metre in height, but later people were satisfied with half the size. Keulengläser were popular in their manufacturing areas in central and northern Germany. In the Nordic Countries they were used especially in Norway and Denmark, where they are depicted in wall paintings of several churches. As Passgläser became more common, Keulengläser lost popularity in the middle of the 16th century, although in Denmark they were used until the beginning of the 17th century.
