Relics were very important to medieval people. A large part of relics was clothes and body parts of saints, which were thought bring about miracles. Special containers, called reliquaries, were made for relics, but also ordinary vessels were used for this purpose. Glass beakers sealed with a wax cover were popular containers ΓÇö especially in the late medieval Germany ΓÇö for the bones of saints and other relics. Especially Krautstr├╝nke and optically decorated beakers were used for this purpose, but also one intact beaker with applied glass threads, sealed in 1456, has been preserved in the church of Rehna in northern Germany.
