Colourless ribbed beakers have distinct vertical ribs made by mould-blowing. The height of the beakers is usually about 10 cm. The rim of the ribbed beakers was often decorated with a blue glass trail and there was a frilled base-ring. The vessels were used at the same time as Venetian enamelled beakers, that is, at the end of the 13th and beginning of the 14th century. The ribbed beakers were common at least in Switzerland and southern Germany, but in northern Germany they were rare, and none 0have been found in the Nordic countries. The only discovered beaker of this kind in the North is a well-preserved vessel excavated from Tartu in the 1980s.
