From the middle of the 13th century onwards, magnificient enamelled beakers were produced in Venice for about a hundred years. The used decoration varied and the beakers were painted with floral and animal motifs, as well as with figures of saints. Encircling the upper edge of the vessel there is usually an inscription either featuring a religious text or stating the maker. Venetian beakers have been found in castles, monasteries and richest town quarters from different parts of Europe. Germany boasts the most finds. However, the largest single entity of finds, altogether 11 different beakers, comes from Tartu, Estonia. Other pieces have also been discovered in Stockholm, L├╢d├╢se, Turku and Ribe, Denmark.
