Along with Renaissance culture, table manners became more sophisticated in the 16th and at the beginning of the 17th century, also in the northern regions. At the same time, the designs of glass vessels became more varied and the production of own glasses for different drinks started. The nobility of both Denmark and Sweden founded glassworks for their own production, whilst the use of glass vessels in Nordic towns increased and became more uniform. In Bergen, Turku and Stockholm alike, beer was drunk from Passgläser, white wine from Römers and red wine from Venetian style goblets. However, the use of glass vessels in Estonia, ravaged by war, seems to have decreased instead.
