  2. This file is README.1ST.  It contains information about
  3. WinChime and how to install it.  Please read this file
  4. first!
  5.  
  6. WinChime is a wind chime sound program for Win95/WinNT4
  7. which uses the MIDI capabilities of your sound card.
  8.  
  9. WinChime is not free.  
  10. If you obtained this program on a try-before-buy basis,
  11. be aware that if you continue to use this program, you
  12. MUST register within thirty days of use.

  15. I.  Distribution Files
  16. ------------------------

  18. You may have received WinChime in one of two forms:
  19.  
  20. A) You have the program in the form of a .ZIP file,
  21.         WCHIME24.ZIP 
  22.    from a bulletin board, Internet, CDROM, etc.  You 
  23.    should know how to unzip the file with PKUNZIP.EXE.
  24.  
  25. B) You have a floppy disk with several files, most in
  26.    compressed format, but already un-zipped.
  27.  
  28. If you have (A), please make sure the ZIP files are unzipped
  29. in a single directory before installation.

  31. II.  Installing WinChime
  32. ---------------------------

  34. The WinChime file set includes a program named SETUP.EXE
  35. used for installation.
  36.  
  37. If your distibution files are on a floppy disk in drive A:
  38.  
  39.     1) Click on the Start button on the Win95 Taskbar, usually
  40.        at the lower left of the screen.
  41.  
  42.     2) Click on the "Run..." item on the pop-up menu.
  43.  
  44.     3) In the command box type
  45.  
  46.         A:\SETUP
  47.  
  48.         (If your floppy drive is different than A:,
  49.          substitute the appropriate name.)

  51.     4) Click on OK

  54. (If you unzipped the zipped file into a temporary directory, for
  55.  instance, C:\TMP, then do the same but with the command
  56.  C:\TMP\SETUP )
  57.  
  58. The setup program will ask you where you want WinChime installed.
  59. You may install it anywhere, but we suggest using a separate new
  60. directory to keep WinChime files separate from other programs.

  62. III. Getting started
  63. ----------------------
  64.  
  65. Chances are your system is already set up correctly for MIDI
  66. if you have a sound card installed.  After installing, go
  67. ahead and try out WinChime by clicking on the Play button.
  68. If it sounds right, and the instrument setting matches what
  69. you hear, you're all set!  Otherwise, refer to the procedure
  70. detailed in WinChime's online-help under "Getting Started".
