  1. Title-Maker by Oxford Computer Journals Ltd.

  7.      Title-maker is a system for making '.exe' files from GIF
  8. files which will run on most common monitor types. (CGA,EGA,Mono
  9. EGA, Hercules & VGA). You supply title-maker with four GIF files
  10. and title-maker gives you an EXE file called 'title.exe' which
  11. you are free to rename. Uses for this program might include
  12. stringing a number of EXE files together and making a
  13. presentation or (as I use it) for providing a showy front page to
  14. programs. If your favourite painting program does not create GIF
  15. files directly this does not matter since there are several
  16. public domain programs around that will convert other formats to
  17. GIF format. To see an example of a title created with title-maker
  18. run the program 'demo.exe'
  19.  
  20. Instructions
  21. ------------

  23.      Copy all the files from the distribution package into a
  24. directory. Create a sub-directory from that directory called
  25. GIFS. Into that directory copy your four GIF files. They should
  26. be called:

  28. VGA.GIF   :    640x480 16 Colour Gif
  29. EGA.GIF   :    640x350 16 Colour Gif
  30. EGAM.GIF  :    640x350 Monochrome GIF (This will be used for
  31.                Hercules too)
  32. CGA.GIF   :    640x200 Monochrome GIF

  34.      Having copied your GIF files simply run the batch file from
  35. the main directory by typing maketitl.bat.
  36.  
  37.      There is no secret to how the exe file is created from the
  38. stub so many users will be able to alter the batch file to suit
  39. their own particular needs.

  41. Why four GIF files?
  42. -------------------

  44.      An alternative to having four GIF files might be to have one
  45. GIF file (of the maximum resolution) and get the program to
  46. automatically re-size the image and convert to monochrome where
  47. required. I have never found this to be a satisfactory solution
  48. especially where writing has been used in the image.
  49.  
  50. Packing the exe file
  51. --------------------

  53.      You will gain nothing from packing the EXE file since the
  54. stub is packed already and GIF is a packed format. Most packers
  55. would probably even destroy the file since the final file is not
  56. a normal exe file.

  58. Registering
  59. -----------

  61.      Title maker is shareware. In order to create titles without
  62. the message at the front you must register your copy. When you
  63. have registered you will be sent the latest version without the
  64. shareware message.

  66.   The program you have is a fully functioning version. No
  67. features have been disabled.

  69.   Whether you wish to use the program or not please send us by
  70. email or standard mail any improvements you would like to see. If
  71. you wish to discontinue using the program since it doesn't come
  72. up to your requirements then please tell us why.
