I. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
II. USING THE INSTALLTION INTERFACE
Select a game from the menu list box that you
are interested in reviewing. A screen shot and
brief text description will be displayed. If you
want to install the game, click on the INSTALL GAME
button and the game installer will be launched.
III. PLAYING A GAME AFTER INSTALLATION
A majority of the games will be installed into
a program group named XTREME GAMES COLLECTION
and or short cuts will be placed on the Desktop.
However, some installers create their own Program
Group, hence, make note of the destination directory
and name of the Program Group that a game goes in
during installation.
IV. RUN-TIME LIBRARIES & DIRECTX
Many games need DirectX 6.1 or better to play. If
you don't have DirectX 6.1 or if you're note sure then
press the INSTALL DIRECTX button in the interface and
DirectX 6.1 will be installed on your system.
V. TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem: I can't find the game after installing it?
Solution: Many of the games have their own installers
and install into specific directories and create their
own program groups. If you install a game and can't find
it, try looking under the Start Menu->Programs for it,
or on the desktop. If that fails, then re-install the game
and pay close attention where the game is being installed
to. Then after installation you can use Window's Explorer
to browse the directory, find the .EXE executable for
the game and run it that way.
Problem: The game starts, screen flashes and then exits?
Solution: You may have an old video driver and or not the
latest version of Microsoft DirectX. Install the latest
version of Microsoft DirectX from this CD, or you can
go to the Microsoft website at www.microsoft.com/directx
and download the DirectX runtime file from there. Once
you have the file then you must execute it and install
DirectX. If on the other hand, you feel that it's your
video card you might want to try downloading the latest
drivers for the card from the manufacturer. As a last
resort try changing the video resolution of your graphics
card in Control Panel->Display Properties to 640x480 in
256 colors, this may help on some games.
Problem: The joystick doesn't work?
Solution: Many games don't support the joystick, but the
ones that do use DirectInput most of the time. Hence,
only newer joysticks work well. Thus, if you have an
old style analog you may have problems with it.
Problem: The game starts and errors out saying that it's
missing a DirectX or VB (Visual Basic) runtime .DLL?
Solution: You need to install runtime files for
Microsoft DirectX and or Visual Basic.
