  34.         Installation Instructions

  36. * Installation
  37.    Version 2.0b6a is being distributed as both a 16-bit Windows
  38.    program and a 32-bit windows program.
  39.  
  40.    If you are running Windows 3.x or WFW, you MUST use the
  41.    16-bit Navigator even if you have Win32s installed.  If you
  42.    are running Windows 95 or Windows NT, use the 32-bit Navigator.
  43.    To run the 32bit Navigator, you MUST have a 32-bit TCP/IP stack.
  44.    Both Windows 95 and Windows NT provide 32bit TCP/IP stacks
  45.    that you can setup.

  47.    To obtain a copy of Netscape Navigator, first download one of
  48.    the self-extracting executable files into a temporary directory.

  50.     for 16-bit : n16e2b6a.exe
  51.         for 32-bit : n32e2b6a.exe

  53.    For 16-bit users, first double click on the self-extracting
  54.    file in the File Manager, then run the setup.exe program to
  55.    install Netscape Navigator on your machine.

  57.    For 32-bit users, double click on the self-extracting file
  58.    to start the installation.

  61. * For Win95 users, if you are using any versions prior to this
  62.   release, you will get multiple uninstall entries in your
  63.   Add/Remove program.  If you prefer not having multiple
  64.   entries, you should do an uninstall to remove your previous
  65.   version of Netscape before you install the new release.

  68. * NAPLAYER, the Netscape audio player, will only work if you have a
  69.   sound card installed and configured properly.  It will not work with
  70.   the PC speaker driver.  Please check your sound card manual to
  71.   configure the sound card.

  119.         Running Netscape

  121. What do I need to run Netscape Navigator?
  122.  
  123. You must have a direct Internet connection before you can use Netscape.
  124. The ability to send and receive e-mail does not necessarily mean you
  125. can run Netscape. There are three requirements for Netscape Navigator:
  126.     1. A direct Ethernet connection to the net, or a dialup
  127.        SLIP or PPP account from an Internet service provider.
  128.     2. TCP/IP stack
  129.     3. Netscape Navigator software
  130.  
  131. You can get a direct connection to the Internet through a service
  132. provider in your area.  You will need to get a SLIP or a PPP account
  133. from an Internet provider (for a dialup account).
  134.  
  135. When you have full Internet connectivity, you need to have a TCP/IP
  136. stack, dialer, and WINSOCK.DLL file.
  137.

  139. If you get the error message "Cannot find WINSOCK.DLL" when running
  140. Netscape Navigator, this means your computer is looking for the
  141. WINSOCK.DLL file that is part of a winsock package.

  145.         International
  146. =======================================================================
  147. The Netscape installer will overwrite existing OLE2 DLLs with the
  148. latest versions for US Windows. This will not affect 32-bit Windows.
  149. For 16-bit Windows, the only difference between the US and the Japanese
  150. versions are the internationalization of error strings. Occasionally,
  151. the Japanese user may see an English language OLE2 error message after
  152. installing Netscape.  Currently, there are no Japanese versions
  153. available for the OLE2 DLLs.  Netscape is working with Microsoft to
  154. make the Japanese version of the OLE2 DLLs available.
