**** IMPORTANT NOTES ****
This version supports 640x480 mode or higher, but
requires the color depth of the display to be set
to MORE than 256 colors. We recommend a resolution
of 800x600 because the graphics look better at that
resolution.
Support for 640x480 mode is optional. If you need it,
you can choose to install it during the setup process.
Also, a complete version of the user manual in Adobe
Acrobat PDF format is in the \ACROBAT directory on the
CDROM. The install program for the Adobe Acrobat reader
is AR32E301.EXE in the same directory.
We have included a Windows 95 screen saver as an added
bonus. It is located in the \SCRSAVER directory. Simply
copy the MAPPROJ.SCR file to your Windows 95 SYSTEM
directory, then choose 'Mapproj' from the list of screen
savers under your Display Properties settings.
-------------------------------------------------
In order to change your video resolution, you can right-
click on the windows desktop and choose 'properties',
then 'settings', and choose the appropriate size and
resolution. This version also requires that your video
display be set to HIGHER than 256 colors (ie: 15-bit,
16-bit, 24-bit, or 32-bit). If possible, choose 16-bit
because it saves memory and makes the program run faster.
With older monitors, changing the resolution to 800x600
may cause the image to break up into static. This is due
to the fact that the refresh rate on most video cards
defaults to 60Hz rather than 56Hz. Use the display
properties to change the refresh rate for 800x600 mode
down to 56 Hz, and the problem should be solved. If you
cannot get back into Windows 95 because you cannot see
the screen anymore, reboot, hit the F8 key when you see
the 'Starting Windows 95...' prompt, and you will get a
menu that gives you several boot options. Choose 'Safe
Mode', and you will be able to change your screen
resolution back to 640x480 under display properties. Then
reboot back into normal Windows 95 and you should be able
to see the screen again.
If you wish, you can download the Microsoft program
called QuickRes from their website at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows95/info/powertoys.htm
If you have a copy of the Microsoft Windows Resource Kit,
this program should also be included in it. This utility
allows you the change color depth and desktop size
without rebooting. It installs itself as a small icon on
the Windows 95 task bar, and clicking on it opens a menu
with the available color choices for your video card.
Also, the statistical data provided with the CD is for
1996. Yearly updates will be posted on our web site at
