  3. This version supports 640x480 mode or higher, but
  4. requires the color depth of the display to be set
  5. to MORE than 256 colors. We recommend a resolution
  6. of 800x600 because the graphics look better at that
  7. resolution.
  8.  
  9. Support for 640x480 mode is optional. If you need it,
  10. you can choose to install it during the setup process.
  11.  
  12. Also, a complete version of the user manual in Adobe
  13. Acrobat PDF format is in the \ACROBAT directory on the
  14. CDROM. The install program for the Adobe Acrobat reader
  15. is AR32E301.EXE in the same directory.

  17. We have included a Windows 95 screen saver as an added
  18. bonus. It is located in the \SCRSAVER directory. Simply
  19. copy the MAPPROJ.SCR file to your Windows 95 SYSTEM
  20. directory, then choose 'Mapproj' from the list of screen
  21. savers under your Display Properties settings.

  25. In order to change your video resolution, you can right-
  26. click on the windows desktop and choose 'properties',
  27. then 'settings',  and choose the appropriate size and
  28. resolution. This version also requires that your video
  29. display be set to HIGHER than 256 colors (ie: 15-bit,
  30. 16-bit, 24-bit, or 32-bit). If possible, choose 16-bit
  31. because it saves memory and makes the program run faster.

  33. With older monitors, changing the resolution to 800x600
  34. may cause the image to break up into static. This is due
  35. to the fact that the refresh rate on most video cards
  36. defaults to 60Hz rather than 56Hz. Use the display
  37. properties to change the refresh rate for 800x600 mode
  38. down to 56 Hz, and the problem should be solved. If you
  39. cannot get back into Windows 95 because you cannot see
  40. the screen anymore, reboot, hit the F8 key when you see
  41. the 'Starting Windows 95...' prompt, and you will get a
  42. menu that gives you several boot options. Choose 'Safe
  43. Mode', and you will be able to change your screen
  44. resolution back to 640x480 under display properties. Then
  45. reboot back into normal Windows 95 and you should be able
  46. to see the screen again.

  49. called QuickRes from their website at

  51. If you have a copy of the Microsoft Windows Resource Kit,
  52. this program should also be included in it. This utility
  53. allows you the change color depth and desktop size
  54. without rebooting. It installs itself as a small icon on
  55. the Windows 95 task bar, and clicking on it opens a menu
  56. with the available color choices for your video card.
