  5. This file contains release notes, installation information and
  6. information about error messages for Mah Jongg for Windows, 
  7. Version 1.12.

  49. version.

  51. ******** Release Notes ********
  52.  
  53. If you have the Borland bwcc.dll file already installed in your 
  54. Windows\System directory and it is not older than the one included 
  55. in this zip file, then you don't need the Borland bwcc.dll file from 
  56. this zip file.
  57.  
  58. Note:   This note concerns all files EXCEPT BWCC.DLL.
  59.     None of the files of the previous release of "Mah Jongg for 
  60.     Windows 1.00" will work properly with this version. The best 
  61.     option is to replace all old files with these new ones.
  62.  
  63. Note:   Mah Jongg will run properly without all the sound files (*.wav) 
  64.     or the bitmap files (*.bmp).
  65.  
  66. Note:   See "mahjongg.hlp" topic "Licensing and Ordering Information - 
  67.     What's New" to read about all the additions and improvements 
  68.     in this version of the game.

  70. Note:   Mah Jongg no longer uses the file called "mahjongg.ini" which 
  71.     is in your Windows directory. You can delete it if you no longer 
  72.     wish to play with the previous version.

  75. ******** Installation and Removal ********
  76.  
  77. System Requirements:
  78.  
  79.     Microsoft Windows (TM) version 3.10 or newer.
  80.  
  81. Installing Mah Jongg for Windows:
  82.  
  83.     Just decompress the files into any directory of your choice, and you
  84.     can immediately run the program from that directory.
  85.  
  86.     In Windows, open File Manager and Program Manager side by side. You 
  87.     now need to drag the file mahjongg.exe from File Manager to a program 
  88.     group in Program Manager. For example, if you already have a "games" 
  89.     program group in Program Manager you might like to add the 
  90.     mahjongg.exe file to this group.  
  91.  
  92.     Now double click on the newly created icon for mahjongg in the 
  93.     program group and off you go - you are ready to play!
  94.  
  95. Removing Mah Jongg for Windows:
  96.  
  97.     Just delete the files: mahjongg.exe, mahjongg.hlp, tiles.dll, 
  98.     mjreadme.txt, all the wave files and possibly any bitmap files 
  99.     used as tile sets. In the case of the Borland bwcc.dll file 
  100.     only delete if it is NOT in your Windows\System directory.
  101.  
  102.     Mah Jongg for Windows no longer uses its own initialization file 
  103.     called mahjongg.ini in your Windows directory. You can safely
  104.     delete this file.
  105.

  107. ******** Error Messages ********
  108.  
  109. If you are unlucky Mah Jongg for Windows might show one of the following
  110. error messages:
  111.  
  112. 1       Old version of "TILES.DLL"
  113.     Solution:       Make sure that the right version of tiles.dll is in 
  114.             the same directory as mahjongg.exe. You can check 
  115.             the version numbers in File Manager if you select 
  116.             the menu "View | All File Details". The version 
  117.             numbers of mahjongg.exe and tiles.dll are shown in 
  118.             the time stamp of those files: 01:12:00. The version 
  119.             of tiles.dll that came with release 1.00 (January 
  120.             1995) will not work properly with this new version.
  121.             If the problem remains, try the strategy followed 
  122.             in point 3 below, but look for TILES.DLL in stead of
  123.             BWCC.DLL. After you've done all that, move the one 
  124.             and only copy of TILES.DLL left on your computer 
  125.             to the directory where you've installed mahjongg.exe.
  126.  
  127. 2       Can't find "TILES.DLL"
  128.     Solution:       Move TILES.DLL, MAHJONGG.HLP, MJREADME.TXT and 
  129.             MAHJONGG.EXE all to the same directory.
  130.  
  131. 3       You are using an old version of "BWCC.DLL".
  132.     Copy the version from the Mah Jongg zip file to your 
  133.     Windows\System directory. Mah Jongg will now exit.
  134.     Solution:       Make sure that the correct version of BWCC.DLL is
  135.             loaded in memory. If the copy of BWCC.DLL that came
  136.             with the Mah Jongg zip file is newer than the copy
  137.             found in your Windows or Windows\System directory,
  138.             then copy the version from the Mah Jongg zip file
  139.             to your Windows\System directory and delete any 
  140.             copies found in your Windows directory. Try running 
  141.             Mah Jongg again. If the problem remains then you 
  142.             have to search all directories listed after the 
  143.             "PATH=" and possibly "SET PATH=" statements in 
  144.             your autoexec.bat file and your Windows and 
  145.             Windows\System directory for copies of BWCC.DLL. 
  146.             Close all applications except Program Manager
  147.             and File Manager. Make backup copies of all 
  148.             versions on a floppy disk and include information 
  149.             from which directory a particular copy came from. 
  150.             Delete any versions of this DLL in your Windows 
  151.             directory and copy the newest version you can find 
  152.             of this DLL to your Windows\System directory.
  153.             Try running Mah Jongg again. If the problem still 
  154.             remains, then delete all copies of this DLL on 
  155.             your system, except for the copy in your 
  156.             Windows\System directory. Mah Jongg should run now.
  157.  
  158. 4       Sorry... You are using a version prior to Windows 3.1. Mah Jongg 
  159.     needs Windows 3.1 or higher. Mah Jongg will now exit.
  160.     Solution:       I'm afraid you'll have to install a version of 
  161.             Microsoft Windows (TM) newer than the version 
  162.             you have now. Versions onwards from 3.10 should 
  163.             run Mah Jongg properly.
  164.  
  165. 5       Mah Jongg has a problem allocating memory. Free up memory by closing
  166.     other applications. Mah Jongg will now exit.
  167.     Solution:       The memory on a computer is limited. Other 
  168.             applications have taken up so much of it that 
  169.             Mah Jongg can't get enough to run properly. 
  170.             Close all applications you're not working
  171.             on at the moment and try running Mah Jongg again.
  172.  
  173. 6       Could not Create Timer
  174.     Solution:       There are only a limited number of timers in Windows.
  175.             Other applications have taken up so many of them 
  176.             that Mah Jongg can't get the timers needed to run 
  177.             properly. Close all applications you're not working 
  178.             on at the moment and try running Mah Jongg again.
  179.  
  180. 7       Error opening Help. Can't find "mahjongg.hlp". Make sure it is in 
  181.     the same directory as mahjongg.exe.
  182.     Solution:       Move TILES.DLL, MAHJONGG.HLP, MJREADME.TXT and 
  183.             MAHJONGG.EXE all to the same directory.
  184.  
  185. All other problems are dealt with in the "mahjongg.hlp" file topic "Technical 
  186. Information - Error Messages" or in the appropriate description of the dialog 
  187. boxes "The Program Full Explanation - Information and Message Boxes".
