S.M.A.R.T.-enabled drives contain technology that allows them to monitor critical functions and, in many cases, predict drive failure before it actually occurs. While not all types of failures are predictable, the S.M.A.R.T. System can help protect the information on your drive by alerting you to a failure in advance, thereby giving you time to back up your drive. Because drive and usage conditions vary, the exact time of a drive's failure cannot be predicted, but once a failure is reported, take corrective action immediately.
The Norton Smart Doctor disk drive integrity indicator is used to communicate the S.M.A.R.T. System status, which is reported by the physical drives attached to the system.
A RED light indicates a pre-failure alert has been received by one or more drives attached to the system. In addition to the red light, a dialog box will pop up to advise you to take corrective action.
A YELLOW light indicates Norton Smart Doctor is unable to detect any S.M.A.R.T. System drives on your system. This condition may be caused by a faulty drive connection, a missing driver or the absence of a drive that supports the S.M.A.R.T. System.
A GREEN light indicates the reported S.M.A.R.T. System status is OK for all S.M.A.R.T. System drives detected by Norton Smart Doctor.
