  1. DeskGallery for DOS and Windows
  2.  
  3. DeskGallery is a collection of 30,000 clip-art images, on 3 CD-
  4. ROMs, perfect for graphic, word processing, and page layout 
  5. applications on Macintosh, DOS, or Windows compatible computers.
  6.  
  7. In addition to the images, we've included several applications and utilities 
  8. to help you get the most out of DeskGallery.  
  9.

  19. Instructions for installing these programs and opening the images in several 
  20. popular programs are given below.

  24. THUMBSPLUS CD for Windows
  25.  
  26. Thumbs+ CD  is an image cataloging program which displays "thumbnail" 
  27. sketches of all the DeskGallery images.  The file "Thumbs.tud" (on CD1) contains 
  28. thumbnail sketches for all of DeskGallery's TIF images.  
  29.  
  30. Thumbs+ CD also contains an image viewer utility for viewing, editing, converting,
  31. and printing the full-size TIF images.  Just double-click on a thumbnail sketch
  32.  to view and use the full-size image.
  33.  
  34. For more information on using Thumbs+ CD, open and read the THUMBS.TXT file
  35. (in CD1:\THUMBSCD). This file will also appear on your hard drive following
  36. installation (in C:\THUMBSCD).

  38. Additional help is available within the program's on-line help system, under the "?" icon.

  41. INSTALLING THUMBS+ CD 
  42. You'll need to install Thumbs Plus CD onto your hard drive in order  to use the 
  43. DeskGallery catalog.  To install Thumbs+ CD, execute the file "Setup.exe"
  44. located in the CD1:\THUMBSCD directory, and follow the instructions.

  49. EXTRA PROGRAMS: Within the Extras directory you'll find two additional directories, one
  50. containing DOS programs, another with Windows programs.  These programs are not
  51. neccesary to use DeskGallery, but they may prove useful for converting and
  52. cataloging images in some cases.

  55. DOS EXTRAS:
  56.  
  57. Graphic Workshop:  Graphic Workshop allows you to open images and save them 
  58. out in WPS, TIF uncompressed, and other formats, for use with DOS programs which
  59. do not read DeskGallery's TIF compressed format. Images can be converted
  60.  in batches as well.
  61.  
  62. To install Graphic Workshop:
  63.  
  64. 1.   Make a new directory on your hard drive.
  65.  
  66. 2.  Copy the file "GRAPHWRK.EXE" into the new directory.
  67.  
  68. 3.   Execute  "GRAPHWRK.EXE" from the new directory;  it will automatically 
  69. expand into six files, one of which is called "SETUP.EXE".
  70.  
  71. 3.   Double-click on "SETUP.EXE" to install Graphic Workshop.  You'll 
  72. probably want to choose your new directory as the 
  73. destination directory, so that all these files end up in one place.
  74.  
  75. 4.   You can now type "GWS" to launch Graphic Workshop.
  76.  
  77. 5.  Graphic Workshop comes with extensive on-screen Help documentation 
  78. to explain the various functions and point out some less-than-obvious commands. 
  79. Take a few minutes to search through this document and you should be ready to roll.

  81. Remember, Graphic Workshop is a shareware product; we cannot offer 
  82. technical support.  If you choose to use Graphic Workshop, 
  83. please register your copy and pay the user fees as stated in the 
  84. program's on-screen documentation.

  88. WINDOWS EXTRAS
  89.  
  90. Within the WNDEXTRA folder you will find two shareware programs,
  91. Thumbs Plus and Paint Shop Pro.  
  92.  
  93. Thumbs Plus allows you to create your own image catalog and, if you have room to 
  94. copy the DeskGallery Catalog (THUMBS.TUD) onto your hard disk, ThumbsPlus
  95. will allow you to add to or subtract thumbnail sketches from it as well.

  97. To Install ThumbsPlus:
  98. Execute the THMPLS.EXE file (in CD1:\EXTRAS\WNDEXTRA\THUMBSPL).

  103. Paint Shop Pro is a utility for converting DeskGallery images into other 
  104. graphic file formats.  It also allows for limited editing of DeskGallery images.

  106. To install Paint Shop Pro:
  107. Execute the SETUP.EXE file (in CD1:\EXTRAS\WNDEXTRA\PSPRO).
  108.  
  109. Don't forget, these are shareware programs.  If you intend to use
  110. them please pay their respective shareware fees.

  115. FILE FORMATS
  116. ATS: Bit-mapped images are in TIF format.  Object images
  117. are in EPS (Illustrator 3.0 format) and/or PCT format.

  122. USING DESKGALLERY IMAGES WITHIN YOUR SOFTWARE: 
  123. Generally, images can be opened by choosing either the Open, Import, or Insert
  124. commands found under the File menu of most Windows applications.  
  125.  
  126. PROBLEM OPENING IMAGES 
  127. If your software doesn't recognize the DeskGallery images,  don't despair. 
  128. All you need to do is open the image in Thumbs+ CD, copy the image to the
  129. clipboard, and paste it into your document.

  131. OPENING IMAGES IN SOME POPULAR APPLICATIONS
  132.  
  133. Most paint and photo-editing programs: 
  134. 1.  Choose File->Open
  135. 2.  Choose the volume 
  136. 3.  Select the image 
  137. 4.  Click the OK or OPEN button

  140. Word Perfect 6.0 and 6.0a for Windows
  141. 1.  Put CD1 in your CDROM drive
  142. 2.  Switch to Thumbs+ CD
  143. 3.  Find the thumbnail sketch of the image you want
  144. 4.  Choose Edit -> Copy  (program will prompt you to switch discs if necessary)
  145. 5.  Switch to Word Perfect
  146. 6.  Choose Edit -> Paste

  149. 1.  Create a new word processing document
  150. 2.  Choose File->Insert
  151. 3.  Choose the volume
