  19. The Microsoft(R) Office 95 Year 2000 Update makes some changes to
  20. Office 95 in preparation for the changeover to the year 2000.
  21. Listed below are the changes to the Office 95 programs contained
  22. within this update.

  24. Microsoft Word 95
  25. -----------------
  26. The update changes the way that Word 95 works with dates. One date
  27. method that is changed is the way Word assumes which century you
  28. mean when you enter a two-digit year in a date. Once you install
  29. the update, years entered as 00-29 are assumed to be in the range
  30. 2000 through 2029. Years entered as 30-99 are assumed to be in the
  31. range 1930 through 1999.

  33. Microsoft Excel 95
  34. ------------------
  35. Microsoft Query 2.0 (Msqry32.exe) now uses a different rule for
  36. two-digit years. Years entered as 00-29 are assumed to be in the
  37. range 2000 through 2029. Years entered as 30-99 are assumed to be
  38. in the range 1930 through 1999.
  39. Microsoft Query 2.0 no longer crashes when it encounters the
  40. SQL_GUID data type. In addition, the stack size for Query 2.0 has
  41. been increased.

  43. Microsoft Access 95
  44. -------------------
  45. If you use the Access Developer's Toolkit for Windows(R) 95 to
  46. redistribute updated Access run-time files, you will need to
  47. install the update and recreate the setup using the Setup Wizard.
  48. Any updates that are applied to Access or its components will be
  49. automatically rolled into the setup when it is created.

  51. NOTE:  In order for Access 95 to properly interpret dates with
  52. 2-digit years in the 1930-2029 window, you must have a version
  53. of OLEAUT32.DLL greater than or equal to 2.20.00.4054. For more
  54. information, see the Automation Library white paper, which can be
  55. found at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/year2k/white/auto.htm.

  57. Microsoft Visual Basic (R) 5.0 Runtime Setup, located at

  75. Microsoft PowerPoint 95
  76. -----------------------
  77. In Microsoft PowerPoint(R) 95, the year 2000 issues involve saving
  78. presentations to earlier formats. Dates greater than or equal to
  79. 2038, which are set to update automatically, will now be saved
  80. correctly to PowerPoint 4.0 format. In addition, presentations
  81. that contain dates formatted to display two-digit years and are
  82. saved as PowerPoint 4.0 presentations now display the dates
  83. correctly.

  85. Microsoft Schedule+ 95
  86. ----------------------
  87. This update changes the way that Schedule+ handles two-digit year
  88. entries when the Short Date Style in the Windows Regional Settings
  89. Control Panel is set to use a 4-digit year. Originally, this
  90. regional setting caused Schedule+ to treat all two-digit year
  91. entries as 1900 dates.  Once you install the update, years entered
  92. as 00-79 will be treated as 2000 through 2079 and years entered as
  93. 80-99 will be treated as 1980 through 1999.

  97. By default, years are displayed with four digits in Find Fast.

  101. If you are using ODBC version 2.5 or earlier, you need to upgrade
  102. your drivers. Check the version of Odbc32.dll; if it is version
  103. 3.0 or higher, you have an updated version. If the version number
  104. is earlier than 3.0 and you are using Microsoft Windows NT (R)
  105. 3.51, refer to http://www.microsoft.com/data for further
  106. assistance.

  110. Before You Install
  111. ------------------
  112. Before you install this update, you should make sure that you are
  113. currently using the versions of the applications listed above, and
  114. that you are not using newer versions of the software. If you are
  115. not sure, run the application (Word 95, for example), select the
  116. Help menu, and then click About Microsoft <application name>.

  118. Also, you must shut down all running programs, including Microsoft
  119. Office 95, Microsoft Project, and the Microsoft Office Shortcut
  120. Bar before you begin the installation.

  124. Install the Update
  125. ------------------
  126. 1.   Double-click the O95y2k.exe program file on your hard disk to
  127.      start the setup program.
  128. 2.   Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the
  129.      installation.
  130. 3.   Once you have installed the update, you can use Office 95
  131.      just as you have used it in the past. You do not need to restart
  132.      your computer.

  134. Removing the Update
  135. -------------------
  136. This update cannot be uninstalled. If you want to use Office 95
  137. without the update, you must remove Office 95 and then reinstall
  138. it from your original Office 95 Setup disks.

  208. Admin Installations
  209. -------------------
  210. If you are a system administrator and need to update an Office 95
  211. network share point, do the following:
  212.  
  213. 1.   Map a drive letter to the server or network share that
  214.      contains your administrative installation of Office 95.
  215. 2.   Have all Office 95 network share users exit all Office 95
  216.      applications running on their computers. The update may fail if
  217.      Office files are in use on the server.
  218. 3.   To start the update, use the following command line:
  219.    
  220.      o95y2k.exe /c:"offpatch.exe /a"
  221.    
  222. 4.   Click OK, and click Yes.
  223. 5.   Click Yes to accept the license agreement.
  224. 6.   In the Office 95 Year 2000 Administrator Update dialog, enter
  225.      the network server path to the setup.exe for Microsoft Office 95.
  226.      Enter the path to the shared applications folder for Microsoft
  227.      Office 95.
  228. 7.   The Office 95 Year 2000 Update will copy all of the new files
  229.      to your network server. Due to the size and number of files, it
  230.      may take several minutes for this process to complete.
  231. 8.   When installation is complete, click OK to exit.

  233. Note to system administrators: If any users on your network are 
  234. running Windows NT 3.51 and if they perform a new installation of 
  235. Microsoft Office 95, Standard Edition from an updated administrative
  236. installation, they must install the Microsoft Office 95 Year 2000 update
  237. on their computer after the installation of Office 95 is complete.

  239. Workstation Installation
  240. ------------------------
  241. Once you have updated your administrative installation, there are
  242. two methods you can use to update your workstations with the
  243. Office 95 Year 2000 Update.
  244.  
  245. *    On each workstation, run the O95y2k.exe program. This will
  246.      allow you to update the Microsoft Office 95 files on the
  247.      workstation to the Year 2000 update.
  248.   
  249. *    On each workstation, double-click the Add/Remove Programs
  250.      icon in the Control Panel. Select "Microsoft Office" or "Microsoft
  251.      Office Professional" and click Add/Remove. Then, click Reinstall
  252.      to reinstall Microsoft Office 95 with the new Year 2000 update.

  254.      NOTE:  You must patch your administrative installation BEFORE you
  255.      use this method to patch workstations that are set to Run From
  256.      Network Server.
