  36.     -- kdm was crashing systems with the XFree86 S3 server.
  37.     Fixed by compiling with FRAGILE_DEV_MEM defined, plus a 64
  38.     bit fix for the alpha architecture.

  41.         NOTE: by accident, kdebase-1.1-5rh5x.i386.rpm got linked against
  42.     the older libjpeg.so.6->libjpeg.so.6.0.1 library supplied by the 
  43.     rpm package libjpeg6a (on RedHat 5.2, and updated RedHat 5.1).  
  44.     it requires that the legacy support libjpeg6a-*.i386.rpm package is 
  45.     installed.

  47. kdesupport:
  48.     -- the kdm_on script now installs utmp/wtmp support for kdm,
  49.     which means that logged in kdm sessions are seen by "who".
  50.     "finger". "last", etc.   (sessreg calls added to 
  51.     /etc/X11/xdm/GiveConsole and TakeConsole; why didn't Red Hat do this?)
  52.     The default ~.kde, ~.kderc configurations
  53.     installed by .Xclients (using the kdesetup script) are cleaned
  54.     up to eliminate "Wrong Charset" error messages. (existing users
  55.     show delete/move  their ~.kde , ~.kderc configurations prior to
  56.     starting KDE if they want to get the new defaults installed)

  58. kde-installer:
  59.     add ChangeLog to docs in /usr/KDE-1.1.
  60.     improved install-kde-1.1 and install-kde-1.1-apps scripts
  61.     (now checks for RPM package file names corrupted by Win9x
  62.     browsers, and offers to install the kde-applications rpm if
  63.     necessary)

  68.     with the forthcoming v3.0 release of the rpm utility.

  71.     suppress annoying KKeydialog debug message in .xsession-errors.

  73.         -- The source rpm now will produce a kdelibs-newstuff subpackage
  74.     with the experimental extra libraries said to be needed for
  75.     KOffice.  (Since these extra "experimental" libraries are likely
  76.     to be obsolete by now, the binary package will not be distributed

  89.     chown'ed to belong to the user); applied patch (as instructed

  92.     (Note: konsole is still unsecure when run under 2.0.x kernels;
  93.     it is said to be secure under 2.2 kernels).

  113.     made even more robust (works correctly now even if kdebase is
  114.     installed BEFORE pam during  a full installation of the OS plus
  115.     KDE from a cdrom.)
  116. kdegames-boardgames:

  119. kde-applications:
  120.     A "kde-applications" rpm that is just a (relocatable) outer
  121.     wrapper for the collection of  optional KDE apps is also
  122.     supplied, as an aid in downloading.  Installing it places
  123.         the full collection of optional kde packages in 
  124.     /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/<arch>   (<arch> = i386, alpha ,etc)
  125.     This is a response to complaints about the difficulty of
  126.     downloading lots of small optional packages.
  127.         The RPM's for the optional packages are also individually
  128.     available.
  129. kde-installer:
  130.     --new package.  improved scripts and docs about installation
  131.     on redhat.   Note that it is NOT necessary to use the installation
  132.     scripts (some users complained about a "Microsoft-like" approach to
  133.     installation: they are free to install rpms "by hand"; others
  134.     welcomed these scripts).  This package is not a required part of
  135.     the installation, and may be omitted from installation CDROMS
  136.     if the scripts and docs are not wanted.   kdeadmin-users (kuser)
  137.     omitted until some bugs are fixed.

  140. kdesupport:
  141.     -- moved the installation docs and installation scripts to
  142.     a kdesupport-installkde subpackage.  Various fixes to these scripts.
  143.         -- made %post installation of /etc/profile.d scripts more
  144.     robust.

  146. kdebase:
  147.     -- /etc/pam.d/kde is now installed as a file, rather than as a symlink
  148.     to /etc/pam.d/xdm, as this was not robust when upgrading from
  149.     earlier KDE releases. (sometimes /etc/pam.d/kde was not 
  150.     installed by the %post script)

  152. all optional subpackages: 
  153.     -- all subpackages kdeadmin-*, kdegames-*, kdegraphics-*, 
  154.     kdemultimedia-*, kdenetwork-*, kdetoys-*, kdeutils-*, had an EXTREMLELY
  155.     nasty rpm install script bug in the "1rh5x" release: when installed
  156.     $KDEDIR got permissions 0700 (accessible only by root) unless it
  157.     was a symbolic link, and $KDEDIR/share.  The also happened to
  158.     $KDEDIR/share, and  all directories in the $KDEDIR/share/LOCALE tree.

  173.     of building the RPMs, mainly to deal with splitting the
  174.     .po multilingual support into its components for each
  175.     subpackage).
