KDE-1.1.1 Release
* "1rh*" release:
kdeadmin:
kpackage-1.2.1 added as a subpackage kdeadmin-kpackage.
kdenetwork:
the talk client ktalk-0.2.7 is added to kdenetwork-talk.
this is automatically configured to work with the talk
daemon ktalkd when the rpm is installed.
kdeutils:
kclock-0.6 added to kdeutils-tools; kdf-0.5.1 added as
kdeutils-diskfree
kde-installer: a new "default" option for automated installation
without user response from the terminal is added.
=================================================================
KDE-1.1 Release.
* "7rh*" releases:
kdeutils-tools:
-- patch to kpm so it works with 2.2.x kernels
-----------------------------------------------------------------
* "6rh5*" release: (no new source rpms, just a corrected build of older rpms)
kdebase:
-- kdebase-1.1-6rh5x.i386.rpm is built from the same source RPM as
kdebase-1.1-5rh5x.i386.rpm (except for the release number), but is now
correctly linked against libjpeg.so.62->libjpeg.so.62.0.0, supplied
by the libjpeg-6b RPM package on RedHat 5.2 and updated RedHat 5.1.
kdelibs:
-- kdelibs-1.1-6rh5x.i386.rpm is built from the same source RPMS as
kdelibs-1.1-4rh5x.i386.rpm (except for the release number), but is now
correctly linked against libjpeg.so.62->libjpeg.so.62.0.0, supplied
by the libjpeg-6b RPM package on RedHat 5.2 and updated RedHat 5.1.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
* "5rh*" releases:
"rh5x" sparc architecture rpms now available.
kdebase:
-- kdm was crashing systems with the XFree86 S3 server.
Fixed by compiling with FRAGILE_DEV_MEM defined, plus a 64
bit fix for the alpha architecture.
(kdebase-1.1-bugfix.patch)
NOTE: by accident, kdebase-1.1-5rh5x.i386.rpm got linked against
the older libjpeg.so.6->libjpeg.so.6.0.1 library supplied by the
rpm package libjpeg6a (on RedHat 5.2, and updated RedHat 5.1).
it requires that the legacy support libjpeg6a-*.i386.rpm package is
installed.
kdesupport:
-- the kdm_on script now installs utmp/wtmp support for kdm,
which means that logged in kdm sessions are seen by "who".
"finger". "last", etc. (sessreg calls added to
/etc/X11/xdm/GiveConsole and TakeConsole; why didn't Red Hat do this?)
The default ~.kde, ~.kderc configurations
installed by .Xclients (using the kdesetup script) are cleaned
up to eliminate "Wrong Charset" error messages. (existing users
show delete/move their ~.kde , ~.kderc configurations prior to
starting KDE if they want to get the new defaults installed)
kde-installer:
add ChangeLog to docs in /usr/KDE-1.1.
improved install-kde-1.1 and install-kde-1.1-apps scripts
(now checks for RPM package file names corrupted by Win9x
browsers, and offers to install the kde-applications rpm if
necessary)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
*"4rh*" releases:
all rpms:
-- two character rpm macro names eliminated (these are incompatible
with the forthcoming v3.0 release of the rpm utility.
kdelibs:
-- security patch to kdelibs/mediatool/connect.c;
suppress annoying KKeydialog debug message in .xsession-errors.
(kdelibs-1.1-bugfix.patch)
-- The source rpm now will produce a kdelibs-newstuff subpackage
with the experimental extra libraries said to be needed for
KOffice. (Since these extra "experimental" libraries are likely
to be obsolete by now, the binary package will not be distributed
unless its continued validity is confirmed).
NOTE: by accident, kdelibs-1.1-4rh5x.i386.rpm got linked against
the older libjpeg.so.6->libjpeg.so.6.0.1 library supplied by the
rpm package libjpeg6a (on RedHat 5.2, and updated RedHat 5.1)
while it was built. IT SHOULD NOT BE USED. The correctly rebuilt
rpm is called kdelibs-1.1-6rh5x.i386.rpm
kdebase:
-- made kvt secure (it now runs suid root, so the ttyp can be
chown'ed to belong to the user); applied patch (as instructed
in kvt README) to compile in utmp support so kvt sessions
are seen by who, finger, etc. (kvt version updated as well).
(Note: konsole is still unsecure when run under 2.0.x kernels;
it is said to be secure under 2.2 kernels).
(kdebase-1.1-kvt-utmp.patch)
-- suppress some annoying debug messges which were appearing in
the user's .xsession-errors.
(kdebase-1.1-bugfix.patch)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
* "3rh*" releases:
"rh5x" for RedHat 5.1 and 5.2 (i386 and alpha architectures )
"rh50egcs" for RedHat 5.0 (i386 architecture only)
"rh42" for RedHat 4.2 (i386 architecture only)
all rpms: files in $KDEDIR/share/applnk no longer treated as %config
files to be saved when rpm updates are made.
kdesupport:
-- moved the installation docs and improved installation scripts
(now called "install-kde-1.1", "install-kde-1.1-apps", and
"uninstall-kde-1.1" to their own kde-installer rpm package
kdebase:
-- %post installation script for installation of /etc/pam.d/kde
made even more robust (works correctly now even if kdebase is
installed BEFORE pam during a full installation of the OS plus
KDE from a cdrom.)
kdegames-boardgames:
-- kreversi patched so it now works
(kdegames-1.1-kreversi.patch)
kde-applications:
A "kde-applications" rpm that is just a (relocatable) outer
wrapper for the collection of optional KDE apps is also
supplied, as an aid in downloading. Installing it places
the full collection of optional kde packages in
/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/<arch> (<arch> = i386, alpha ,etc)
This is a response to complaints about the difficulty of
downloading lots of small optional packages.
The RPM's for the optional packages are also individually
available.
kde-installer:
--new package. improved scripts and docs about installation
on redhat. Note that it is NOT necessary to use the installation
scripts (some users complained about a "Microsoft-like" approach to
installation: they are free to install rpms "by hand"; others
welcomed these scripts). This package is not a required part of
the installation, and may be omitted from installation CDROMS
if the scripts and docs are not wanted. kdeadmin-users (kuser)
omitted until some bugs are fixed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
* "2rh5x" releases
kdesupport:
-- moved the installation docs and installation scripts to
a kdesupport-installkde subpackage. Various fixes to these scripts.
-- made %post installation of /etc/profile.d scripts more
robust.
kdebase:
-- /etc/pam.d/kde is now installed as a file, rather than as a symlink
to /etc/pam.d/xdm, as this was not robust when upgrading from
earlier KDE releases. (sometimes /etc/pam.d/kde was not
installed by the %post script)
all optional subpackages:
-- all subpackages kdeadmin-*, kdegames-*, kdegraphics-*,
kdemultimedia-*, kdenetwork-*, kdetoys-*, kdeutils-*, had an EXTREMLELY
nasty rpm install script bug in the "1rh5x" release: when installed
$KDEDIR got permissions 0700 (accessible only by root) unless it
was a symbolic link, and $KDEDIR/share. The also happened to
$KDEDIR/share, and all directories in the $KDEDIR/share/LOCALE tree.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
* "1rh5x" releases.
*initial release of KDE-1.1 rpms for RedHat 5.1, 5.2
all rpms: fully relocatable, can be installed with
"rpm -Uvh ... --prefix <path to your desired location>
optional subpackages:
-- the collectionms kdeadmin, kdegames, kdegraphics,
kdemultimedia, kdenetwork, kdetoys, and kdeutils have
been split into RPM subpackages, to give the user control
over exactly which KDE components are installed.
(done by some gymnastics during the %install phase
of building the RPMs, mainly to deal with splitting the
.po multilingual support into its components for each
subpackage).
korganizer and kpackage are added to the collection.
fixes to sources:
-- kdemultimedia-midi (kmidi) patched so location of "timidity.cfg"
configuration file is correctly found using $KDEDIR.
(kdemultimedia-1.1-redhat.patch)
-- kdebase patched so kdm uses redhat's default USER_PATH
and SYSTEM_PATH, and has an appropriate initial kdmrc.
(kdebase-1.1-redhat.patch)
-- patch for kfm/kwm race condition at startup
(kdebase-1.1-bugfix.patch)
