  31. ViewNotes are online documents designed to answer questions you
  32. may have about Microsoft Windows-based products. To read this
  33. ViewNote in Microsoft Multimedia Viewer, a program that allows
  34. you to read .MVB files (online Viewer documents), follow the 
  35. instructions below. ViewNotes require Microsoft Windows operating
  36. system version 3.0 or later.

  38. FILES THAT MUST BE DOWNLOADED
  39. -----------------------------

  41. This ViewNote requires the following:
  42.  
  43. ViewNote Files
  44.  - VW006.MVB (the ViewNote)
  45.  - VW006.IND (the ViewNote index)
  46.  
  47. Viewer Files
  48.  - MMVIEW.EXE (Microsoft Multimedia Viewer)
  49.  - FTUI.DLL (Viewer file for full-text search)
  50.  - FTENGINE.DLL (Viewer file for full-text search)
  51.  - MVAPI.DLL (Viewer file for full-text search)

  53. INSTALLATION
  54. ------------
  55.  
  56. Note: If you already have Microsoft Viewer (MMVIEW.EXE)
  57. installed in your VIEWNOTE directory, skip to step 2.
  58.  
  59. To install the Viewer files (MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL, and
  60. FTENGINE.DLL) and the files for this ViewNote (VW006.MVB 
  61. and VW006.IND), do the following:
  62.  
  63. Note: To save hard-disk space, you may prefer to copy this 
  64. ViewNote to a high-density floppy disk and run the ViewNote from 
  65. the floppy disk rather than running the ViewNote from your hard 
  66. disk). If this is the case, copy MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL, 
  67. FTENGINE.DLL, VW006.MVB, and VW006.IND files to a floppy disk 
  68. instead of to your VIEWNOTE directory.

  70. 1. If you do not have a VIEWNOTE directory set up with 
  71.    MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL, and FTENGINE.DLL located in 
  72.    the directory, do the following to install a read-only version 
  73.    of Viewer:
  74.  
  75.    a. Create a directory by choosing Create Directory from the 
  76.       File menu in File Manager, typing "viewnote" (without the
  77.       quotation marks) in the Name box, and choosing the OK 
  78.       button.
  79.  
  80.    b. Download the Viewer files (MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL, 
  81.       and FTENGINE.DLL) from your bulletin board service (for
  82.       example, from the Microsoft Download Service [MSDL], 
  83.       OnLine, CompuServe, or GEnie). These Viewer files can be 
  84.       obtained from the Software/Data Library on CompuServe, 
  85.       OnLine, and GEnie by searching for the word MMVIEW or 
  86.       S13434. Note that MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL, and 
  87.       FTENGINE.DLL are compressed in the file MMVIEW.ZIP on 
  88.       CompuServe, OnLine, and GEnie. After the file has been 
  89.       downloaded, you must decompress the file using the PKware 
  90.       PKUNZIP utility.

  92.       These Viewer files can also be downloaded through the MSDL
  93.       at (206) 936-6735. The Viewer files are located in the 
  94.       Windows 3.1 file area and are in the self-extracting file 
  95.       MMVIEWER.EXE.

  97. 2. Follow the instructions below. For example, if you obtained
  98.    Viewer from MSDL, follow the instructions under the "MSDL
  99.    Users" heading.
  100.  
  101.    MSDL Users
  102.    ----------
  103.  
  104.    After you have downloaded MMVIEWER.EXE, move it to your 
  105.    VIEWNOTE directory or floppy disk. Because this file is 
  106.    compressed, it needs to be expanded by typing the name of the
  107.    file (MMVIEWER) at an MS-DOS command prompt. (MMVIEW.EXE, 
  108.    FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL, and FTENGINE.DLL are the expanded Viewer 
  109.    files used to read ViewNotes.) Also, move VW006.MVB 
  110.    (the ViewNote) and VW006.IND to your VIEWNOTE 
  111.    directory or floppy disk:

  113.    a. In File Manager, select the files you want to move.
  114.    b. From the File menu, choose Move.
  115.    c. In the To text box, enter the path to the VIEWNOTE 
  116.       directory you created in step 1a.
  117.    d. Choose the OK button.

  119.    OnLine, CompuServe, GEnie Users
  120.    -------------------------------

  122.    After you have downloaded MMVIEW.ZIP (and decompressed 
  123.    it if you are using OnLine, CompuServe, or GEnie), move the 
  124.    decompressed Viewer files (MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL,
  125.    and FTENGINE.DLL), VW006.IND, and VW006.MVB (the
  126.    ViewNote) to your VIEWNOTE directory or floppy disk:

  128.    a. In File Manager, select the files you want to move.
  129.    b. From the File menu, choose Move.
  130.    c. In the To text box, enter the path to the VIEWNOTE 
  131.       directory you created in step 1a.
  132.    d. Choose the OK button.

  134. READING THIS VIEWNOTE
  135. ---------------------
  136.  
  137. To read the "Windows 3.1 and Serial Communications" ViewNote, 
  138. do the following:
  139.  
  140. 1. After installing the Viewer files (MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL,
  141.    MVAPI.DLL, and FTENGINE.DLL), VW006.MVB, and VW006.IND
  142.    using the instructions above, run Windows File Manager.
  143.  
  144. 2. If you are running "Windows 3.1 and Serial Communications" 
  145.    from your hard disk, open the directory where Viewer,
  146.    VW006.MVB, and VW006.IND reside (the VIEWNOTE directory if you
  147.    followed the directions above) and double-click VW006.MVB.
  148.    If you are using a keyboard, select VW006.MVB and press ENTER.

  152.    If you are running "Windows 3.1 and Serial Communications" 
  153.    from a floppy disk, run MMVIEW.EXE, choose Open from the 
  154.    File menu in Viewer, select VW006.MVB, and choose the OK button.

  156. SETTING UP A VIEWER ICON
  157. ------------------------
  158.  
  159. If you set up a Viewer icon, you can run Viewer by choosing the
  160. icon, and then load the ViewNote by choosing Open from the 
  161. File menu in Viewer, and selecting VW006.MVB from the VIEWNOTE
  162. directory. To set up a ViewNote icon, create a program item for
  163. Viewer. For information about creating a program item, see pages 
  164. 78-81 of the "Microsoft Windows User's Guide" for Windows version 
  165. 3.1 and pages 89-91 of the "Microsoft Windows User's Guide" for 
  166. version 3.0.
