  4. VEDIT is both a full featured general purpose text editor and a unique
  5. universal file editor.
  6.  
  7. As a text editor, VEDIT is intended for both program development and text
  8. preparation.  It is ideal for writing assembly language and structured
  9. programs (C, Pascal, PL/I) and lengthy documents such as reports or
  10. manuscripts.  It is also well suited for the preparation of text files being
  11. used with Desktop Publishing packages such as Xerox's Ventura Publisher (tm).

  13. VEDIT's universal file editing capabilities let you edit ANY text, data or
  14. binary file you will ever encounter.  This includes mainframe, database (both
  15. variable-length and fixed-length records), postscript, plotter output,
  16. executable (.EXE) and other non-standard files.  VEDIT can edit huge files up
  17. to 2 Gigabytes in size and supports unlimited line lengths.  While you can't
  18. alter a file on CD-ROM, you can quickly browse the CD-ROM, or copy a CD-ROM
  19. file to your hard disk and edit it there.

  22. huge files that other text editors can't handle.  Compared to traditional
  23. disk utilities, VEDIT has a full range of editing capabilities such as

  31. flexibility and power to satisfy the most demanding computer professional.
  32. It offers a rich assortment of editing capabilities, simple menu operation,
  33. complete on-line help facilities, and the ability to edit text and data files
  34. up to 2 Gigabytes in size.

  36. VEDIT's multi-mode editing and display capabilities let you effortlessly edit
  37. any file in the most efficient manner possible.  Edit in five different ASCII
  38. modes, EBCDIC (used by IBM mainframes) or Hexadecimal, or split the screen
  39. for any combination of modes.  File modes support DOS, UNIX and Max text,
  40. binary, plus variable length and fixed-length-records data files.

  43. patch a corrupted database file, convert a huge mainframe file to a
  44. DOS text file, perform a last minute search/replace on a 400 Megabyte file,
  45. examine a Postscript file, or similar task, you probably wished for the kind
  46. of speed and capability that only VEDIT offers.

  48. VEDIT really shines in speed, especially when editing large files.  For 
  49. example, VEDIT can perform a global search and replace on a 10 Megabyte file
  50. (180,000 occurrences) in less than 3 minutes.  Other text editors, assuming 
  51. that they can edit the file at all, take between 2 and 30 HOURS!

  58. VEDIT has the ability to create an integrated programming environment by
  59. running your favorite compilers, assemblers, linkers, debuggers, and "make"
  60. programs from within the editor.  Any compilation errors are automatically
  61. tracked.  This can significantly speed up program development.

  63. The DOS version of VEDIT includes the innovative V-SWAP (tm) program.  V-SWAP
  64. not only swaps VEDIT out of memory when running large compilers, debuggers
  65. and other programs from within VEDIT, but can even swap out many TSRs
  66. (Terminate-Stay-Resident programs).  For example, V-SWAP can swap out pop-up
  67. utilities and network drivers which are not needed during compilation.

  73. The comprehensive configuration lets you completely determine your own
  74. keyboard layout and select numerous default settings to configure VEDIT to
  75. your particular hardware, applications and personal preferences.  By using
  76. the available options and "keystroke macros", VEDIT can very closely emulate
  77. other editors and word processors.

  79. An easy to use installation program for the IBM PC permits a quick, menu
  80. driven selection of the most common configurations of VEDIT.  This includes
  81. selecting from the recommended keyboard layout or from a Brief, WordStar or
  82. Word Perfect layout.

  84. Since all configuration settings and the keyboard layout are normally built
  85. into the VEDIT.EXE file and VEDIT.EXE is only 85K in size, VEDIT starts up
  86. instantly.

  97. running under the PCDOS, MS-DOS (IBM and non-IBM compatible), UNIX
  98. 286/386/486, XENIX, QNX, Concurrent DOS, FlexOS and IBM 4680 operating
