This document applies to UUPC/extended version 1.08a, and was
formatted on September 9, 1990 at 17:42:40.
Files included in this package:
The files, most of which are samples and must be modified to be used,
are as follows:
FILES.DOC is this file, formatted for a terminal.
FILES.LST is this file, formatted for a printer which can
backspace for underscoring and boldfacing.
README.DOC is an overview of UUPC/extended, including limited
installation an invocation instructions.
README.LST is README.DOC, formatted for a printer.
CHANGES.DOC is a list of recent changes to UUPC/extended (fixed
bugs and enhancements) formatted for a terminal.
CHANGES.LST is CHANGES.DOC, formatted for a printer.
BUGS.DOC is a list of known bugs in UUPC/extended, formatted for
a terminal.
BUGS.LST is BUGS.DOC, formatted for a printer.
UUPC107.DOC is the list of changes made between UUPC 1.05 (the
interim release of UUPC upon UUPC/extended is based) and
UUPC/extended 1.07g, the first widely distributed release,
formatted for a terminal.
UUPC107.LST is UUPC107.DOC, formatted for a printer.
MAIL.EXE is the user interface for mail; it is used for both
sending and receiving mail.
UUIO.EXE exchanges mail with other systems via the serial port
(modem). It can both call out (active polling) and wait for
another system to call (passive polling).
UUPOLL.EXE serves as a driver for UUIO, invoking UUIO to answer
the phone and/or dial out on regular basis; this permits
unattended operation of UUIO, allowing it, for example, to call
another system in the middle of the night.
UUPC.RC defines the system information related to UUPC/extended,
such as the system name and work directories. Only one UUPC.RC
file should exist per PC.
PERSONAL.RC defines the user information related to UUCP, such

the user id (mailbox) of the user, the user's full name, and the
directory to store mail in. If several people share the same PC,
then multiple PERSONAL.RC files may exist under different names.
PERSONAL.SIG is a sample signature file, which is appended to
each mail file you send. Use of this file is optional.
SYSTEMS defines the telephone numbers and login information for
other computers the local PC can call.
PASSWD defines systems that can call the local PC. Use of this
file is optional.
HOSTPATH defines routing for hosts that are not directly
connected to the PC. Use of this file is optional.
ALIASES.TXT defines information about other users, including
their full address and name. Use of this file is NOT optional.
MAIL.HLP is a text file printed by the help (?) command in mail.
If not used, the user receives an error message instead of help.
TILDE.HLP is a text file printed by the help (~?) command when
sending mail. If not used, the user receives an error message
instead of help.
There is also a separate ZIP file containing the sources to
UUPC/extended and the unformatted version of the documents.
