  1. 1  The ANNOTATED USBBS?
  2.  
  3. When sysops enter information for consideration for USBBS, they
  4. are asked additional information about their board.  What would
  5. you think of a *SEPARATE* USBBS list which contains additional
  6. lines with this information?
  7.  
  8. The list would be larger and would be maintained the same as
  9. USBBS.  However, it would contain two-three additional lines for
  10. each board containing comments from the lister.  It would be
  11. delivered in a separate ZIP file on the same schedule as USBBS.

  13. A listing would look like this:

  17.              Home of USBBS National BBS List, BOBsLIST.  Communications,

  20. The list would be produced for NEW and UPDATED boards only.  As usual,
  21. I will make no particular effort to verify any of this information.

  28. like the list will NOT be produced at this point.

  31. 2  LIST CHANGES WITH EDITION 105
  32.  
  33. There are several format changes starting with edition 105
  34. (February, 1993) of the list:
  35.  
  36. The list uses the "R" designation for RBBS and all sections will
  37. be filled out.  If I do not know a piece of information, I will
  38. substitute a "?".  As usual, this will apply to NEW and UPDATED
  39. entries only.
  40.  
  41. The following modem information is displayed for new and updated
  42. boards. The field is in columns 50-53 in the following format:

  44.     mMxx
  45.  
  46. m = Minimum speed
  47. M = Maximum speed
  48.  
  49. 0 = 300
  50. 1 = 1200
  51. 2 = 2400
  52. 9 = 9600 and greater
  53.  
  54. xx = Modulation type(s):
  55.  
  56. V = V.32 or V.32bis
  57. U = USRobotics HST
  58. D = USRobotics Dual Standard (V32 and HST)
  59. H = Hayes VSM
  60. B = Hayes Ultra (V32 and VSM)
  61. O = Other proprietary method
  62.  
  63. These modulation indicators appear for those boards supporting
  64. 9600 baud or greater maximum rates.  As additional modulation
  65. types are added, I will consider them for their own letters.

  67. These features appear to be the most important for a caller to
  68. determine if they can connect with a board.  Higher baud rate
  69. claims (e.g. greater than 9600) depend so much on manufacturer,
  70. modulation, and settings of both the calling modem and BBS modem
  71. that 9600 will continue to be the maximum entry.

  73. The entry supports two modulation types so boards which support
  74. different types on multiple lines can indicate this.

  77. 3  UPDATE SCHEDULE
  78.  
  79. USBBS is updated from entries submitted by callers throughout the
  80. month.  Only updates made to an official update point through the
  81. indicated method can be assured to make the list if the board
  82. qualifies.

  84. The final update to USBBS is made on the last weekend of the
  85. month before the edition month unless the first is on a weekend. 
  86. The list is usually available Sunday morning.  I distribute it
  87. personally to the distribution points sometime during Sunday.

  92. The following files are included in the USBBSxxx.ZIP archive:

  94. USBBSxxx.LST    The list itself.
  95.  
  96. USBBSxxx.TXT    Distribution and Update points for the USBBS
  97.                 list.

  99.                 Eventually, there will be 4-5 update points --
  100.                 one in each geographic part of the country.  The
  101.                 distribution points for the list are boards that
  102.                 I personally upload the list to shortly after it
  103.                 is updated.

  105.                 This file will be included with each edition of
  106.                 the list.
