  6. Overview

  9. Description
  10. ───────────
  11. Create/edit isolated text blocks within a CAD environment.
  12.  
  13. A CAD system within a text mode environment.  Dynamically
  14. create, edit, copy, move, save, restore and print blocks of
  15. text defined by row/col coordinates of diagonally opposite
  16. corners of the block using mouse or keyin. Worksheet concept
  17. consisting of segment of existing file or new file.  Build
  18. organization charts, bar charts, graphs, work schedules,
  19. ruled tables and output data files, menus, user interfaces
  20. and other items adaptable to construction by text blocks
  21. rather than lines. Draw vertical as well as horizontal lines
  22. using graphic characters or any one of other 256 characters.

  24. Operation
  25. ─────────
  26. The program is very easy to operate and the "on line help",
  27. which will be accessable to you immediately upon execution,
  28. will be of great value to you in making your initial moves.
  29. Additionally we have included a set of files with a ".MAN"
  30. extension which will enable you to print a detailed user
  31. manual.  The files are very simply named and are obviously
  32. set up for two sided printing.  See "Printing the User's
  33. Manual" for complete details.

  35. If you follow the suggested setup in "Files and Setup" you
  36. can execute TMC anywhere within your DOS environment by
  37. entering TMC at the DOS prompt.  Most commands can be
  38. executed with a mouse left button click on the menu bar.
  39. To exit the TMC environment press the <Esc> key.

  41. Minimum Hardware
  42. ────────────────
  43. IBM compatiable 386SX, Hard Drive, VGA, MSDOS and Mouse.

  46. Files and Setup
  47. ───────────────
  48. In referring to the "Files Summary", the first four files in
  49. the list make TMC run.  For best results and simplest setup
  50. put these four files in the same directory, like "C:\TMC",
  51. and add the full path name of that directory to the PATH
  52. definition in your "autoexec.bat" file.  Then edit the
  53. configuration file "tmccfg.ini" with any ASCII text editor
  54. so that the values of the two variables "menupath" and
  55. "helppath" are the correct complete full path name to the
  56. two files "menu.dat" and "help.dat".  With this setup you
  57. are now ready to run TMC from any directory in your MS-DOS
  58. environment.

  61. If you want to set up different from this it will help you
  62. to know that within the program TMC searches the PATH
  63. directories to find "tmccfg.ini" so make sure that it is in
  64. a directory that is in your PATH definition.  TMC looks only
  65. one place for each of the two files "menu.dat" and "help.dat"
  66. and that is where you tell it to look by assigning the full
  67. path names to the two variables "menupath" and "helppath"
  68. within the file "tmccfg.ini".

  70. The ".man" files and the "TMC01.fon" file are to be used for
  71. printing a user's manual as described under "Printing the
  72. User's Manual".

  74. The remaining files, except for the "readme.dat" file,
  75. contain data that can be used to print sample TMC creations.

  104. Printing the User's Manual
  105. ──────────────────────────
  106. The ".man" files include escape sequence printer commands
  107. for an HP-III or compatible laser printer.  If you have
  108. such a printer you should be able to print up a user manual
  109. of desktop publishing quality.  These files use the soft
  110. fonts included in the "TMC01.fon" file so if you do print the
  111. manual don't forget to download this font file.  You should
  112. be able to download it with the DOS copy command as follows:
  113.     C:> copy /b tmc01.fon prn
  114.  
  115. If you don't have a laser printer you will need to edit out
  116. all the printer commands from the ".man" files before you try
  117. to print a manual.
