SWAPFILE MANUAL
==============================================================
SwapFile 2.1s is a program that is designed to swap virtually
any program within a BBS. It can be utilized to rotate any of your
BBS screens, menu screens, and virtually any other series of
screens or programs. With SwapFile, you as a Sysop, can customize
your BBS as never before possible. SwapFile 2.1s is not
crippleware. It's only limitation is the ability to rotate only
three screens / menus / programs. With the registered version, you
may rotate up to 99 screens / menus / programs. SwapFile will
operate with any BBS software.
I have tried to make this documentation as simple and easy to
understand as possible. Not all of us are P.C. Gurus....*g*.
==============================================================
The following files should be in your copy of SwapFile:
* File_id.diz This is the BBS info file
* Order.frm This is the order form for Swapfile
* Swapcfg.Exe This is the setup file
* Swapfile.Exe This is the main executable file
* Swapfile.doc This is this file
After initial setup is completed, a file named Swapfile.Cfg
will automatically be created.
You may edit Swapfile.cfg at any time after initial setup is
completed. Now if you do edit the Swapfile.cfg when you are
finished, the old Swapfile.cfg will be turned into a backup file.
The name of the back up will be sf_cfg.bak.
==============================================================
INITIAL SETUP
==============================================================
Take all two of the program files....(grin) and place them in
a sub-directory off of your main BBS directory. Actually, you can
place them anywhere as long as they are in your path statement.
But, for the sake of simplicity, placing them in your main BBS
directory works for me.
I am going to use RemoteAccess and Robo BBS in my examples.
While I, myself do not operate a BBS, my association with many wild
and crazy Sysops, have convinced me the need for such a program.
Create a directory off of your main BBS directory:
C:\RA\SWAP PATH\BBS PROGRAM\SUB-DIRECTORY NAME
After having placed both files belonging to SwapFile in a
directory in your path, you are ready to configure your program.
I will use examples defining how to rotate your ANSI log off
screens.
Place the three ANSI(or three ASCII) screens, you have chosen
to rotate in this sub directory. Rename the three screens:
[FileName].01 [FileName].02 [FileName].03
Please note that the extension is a two digit, not a three
digit extension.
Execute Swapcfg.Exe. You will see a screen prompting you for
the following information:
BBS MASTER FILE PATH The directory is where your screens
are normally found.
Eg; C:\RA\TXTFILES
BBS MASTER FILENAME The filename of your screen.
Eg; Logoff.ans
BBS SWAP FILE PATH The path to the directory where your
three screens...
Logoff.01,Logoff.02, and
Logoff.03.... you wish to rotate are
housed.
C:\RA\SWAP
BBS SWAP FILE NAME The filename of the screen you wish
to rotate... do not add any
extension. Eg; Logoff
TIE CURRENT FILE TO LAST Here is where RoboBBS comes into the
picture. Unlike all other BBS
software, Robo requires at least 2
files incorporated into each screen
to function properly. Therefore,
here is where you tie Logoff.RBO and
Logoff.Txt together to make one
screen. However, RoboBBS Sysops are
limited to only one rotating screen,
for they are using 2 of the 3
screens available for rotation.
Don't fret Robo Syops....I will
figure something out for you.
If you register SwapFile, you will have the capabilities of
rotating 99 screens/programs. You can use SwapFile to rotate any of
your screens....welcome, logoff, logo, etc. You can also rotate
your menus.....main menu, message menu, file menu, etc., by simply
applying these instructions to which set of screens you wish to
rotate. Your imagination is your only limit to how you can
customize your BBS.
==============================================================
RUNNING SWAPFILE
==============================================================
This will explain how to run SwapFile if you are not using a
front end mailer. Directions for running SwapFile with a front end
mailer follows.
Since I started using RemoteAccess as an example, I will
continue using it throughout these instructions.
Edit the batch file that executes your BBS. Enter Swapfile.exe
into the batch file, enabling Swap to rotate the screens.
EG; ECHO OFF
:START
CD\RA\SWAP
SWAPFILE.EXE
RA -D -E20
:CLEAN
RAMSG
RAUSER
RATOP
CD\RA
GO TO START
Please take note this very simplified batch file is exampled
to give you an idea of how to edit your existing batch file.
You want Swap to execute as soon as a user exits your BBS. It
should then rotate your screens, for the next caller.
==============================================================
RUNNING SWAPFILE WITH FRONT END MAILER
==============================================================
These instructions work with Front Door. Simply add
swapfile.exe to the end of your batch file that runs your front end
mailer. Again, you want Swap to run as soon as a user exits your
BBS. It should then rotate your screens, for the next caller. Not
knowing how all front end mailers operate, I leave it up to you to
edit your batch file to include Swap.
==============================================================
I hope you enjoy this program from Millmar Software. If you
have any problems, and especially if you wish to heap praise upon
the author....please write to me. And if you feel you would like
the capability to keep your users from becoming bored with the same
screens every time they visit...... send in your registration form.
For only $15.00 you can rotate up to 99 screens, menus and
programs.
