  4. │ While we have endeavored to make the RMS Catalog program as intuitive as   │
  5. │ possible, we have included an online Help facility here to assist the      │
  6. │ user who might have any questions on its basic usage.                      │
  7. │                                                                            │
  8. │ Below we have listed the Basic Function keys that the program uses and     │
  9. │ a short description of that function and what it does. They are presented  │
  10. │ here in an conceptual logic sequence.                                      │
  11. │                                                                            │
  12. │ F10    - This is the online Help Facility. You are in it right now.        │
  13. │                                                                            │
  14. │ ESC    - This key will back you out of the current function or window      │
  15. │          that your are current in. Hitting ESC on the Library Window       │
  16. │          (Main Menu option #2) will back you out to the Main Menu,         │
  17. │          for example. And hitting ESC on the small Files Directory window  │
  18. │          backs you up to the Library Window. ESC on the Main Menu quits    │
  19. │          the program.                                                      │

  24. │ Scroll   These are the scrolling keys. In the program screens you will     │
  25. │ Keys     see a Function keys legend at the top of many of these windows.   │
  26. │          These keys control the scrolling features on the active window    │
  27. │          at the time. The cursor line on the active window is the line     │
  28. │          that is highlighted.                                              │

  30. │ Home   - This positions you to the top of the scrolling list or directory  │
  31. │ End    - This positions you to the bottom of the scroll list or directory  │
  32. │ PgUp   - This shifts your position in the scroll list or directory by      │
  33. │          one screenful up higher in the list towards the top of the list.  │
  34. │ PgDn   - This shifts your position in the scroll list or directory by      │
  35. │          one screenful up lower in the list towards the bottom.            │
  36. │ Arrows - The Up and Down arrow keys scroll the list/directory 1 line at    │
  37. │          a time either up or down.                                         │

  44. │ F9     - This is how you select a BBS File Directory to view.              │
  45. │                                                                            │
  46. │          When you hit the F9 key, a small window will pop up on the        │
  47. │          right side of the Library options screen. It will display a       │
  48. │          list of file directories and descriptions that are available      │
  49. │          for browse.                                                       │
  50. │                                                                            │
  51. │          Using the scrolling functions, highlight the desired file         │
  52. │          directory and hit the Enter key. The system will load the         │
  53. │          highlighted file directory.                                       │

  55. │          If you wish to back out and not select a file directory, then     │
  56. │          simply hit the ESC key to return back to where you were.          │

  64. │ F3     - This is how you can print a single File Directory, as opposed     │
  65. │          to printing the entire BBS catalog option on the Main Menu.       │
  66. │                                                                            │
  67. │          When you hit the F3 key, a small window will pop up on the        │
  68. │          right side of the Library screen. It will list available file     │
  69. │          directories in a list. Using your scrolling keys, highlight the   │
  70. │          file directory you wish to print and hit the Enter key. Turn on   │
  71. │          your printer and hit enter at the program prompt.                 │

  73. │          If you wish to back out and not select a file directory, then     │
  74. │          simply hit the ESC key to return back to where you were.          │
  75. │                                                                            │
  76. │          To print pretty box characters, you printer will need to be in    │
  77. │          IBM printer emulation mode on many printer brands.                │
  78. │                                                                            │
  79. │          To print the entire catalog, use the Main Menu option instead.    │

  84. │ F1     - This is the Search Function. Press this key and the scroll        │
  85. │          area will be cleared and a prompt for a Search String will        │
  86. │          appear. You can enter any alphanumberic (A-Z, 0-9) character,     │
  87. │          combination of characters, word, or phrase up to a length of      │
  88. │          25 characters. The RMS catalog program will then prompt you       │
  89. │          for Starting and Ending File Directory #s to search. The          │
  90. │          program will then search that directory range for any matches     │
  91. │          in either upper or lower case, then load all files/file           │
  92. │          descriptions and allow you to scroll through them.                │
  93. │                                                                            │
  94. │          If you wish to search only 1 File Directory, then use that        │
  95. │          File Directory # for both the Starting and Ending # prompts.      │
  96. │                                                                            │
  97. │          Searches will be quicker if you limit them to applicable ranges.  │
  98. │          Searches are currently limited to 500 matches.                    │

  104. │ F5     - This is neat little feature! When you are browsing and scrolling  │
  105. │          through various File Directories, if you hit the F5 key the       │
  106. │          RMS Catalog program will store a copy of the file name and        │
  107. │          any lines of file descriptions in a separate online PICKLIST.     │
  108. │          It does not matter what line of that file description you are     │
  109. │          on when you hit the F5 key -- it will get everything for that     │
  110. │          file name that is in that section of the screen.                  │
  111. │                                                                            │
  112. │          If you are trying to build a list of Files to tag for possible    │
  113. │          downloading, then this is your ticket to a quick list build!      │
  114. │                                                                            │
  115. │          The internal PICKLIST can contain up to 500 lines currently.      │
  116. │                                                                            │

  124. │ F6     - This prints any items that you have tagged into the internal      │
  125. │          picklist. This list is printed to your printer.                   │
  126. │                                                                            │
  127. │          The program will first prompt you to Turn On Your Printer.        │
  128. │          Do so, and then hit the Enter key. The print will then start.     │
  129. │                                                                            │
  130. │          To backout and NOT print the list, simply hit the ESC key.        │
  131. │                                                                            │
  132. │          The Picklist print does not utilize any special box characters    │
  133. │          as of this time, so the print should look very clean and          │
  134. │          and straight-forward on even the oldest of dot matrix             │
  135. │          printers.                                                         │

  144. │ F7     - This writes any items that you have tagged into the internal      │
  145. │          picklist to a text file in the current subdirectory called        │
  146. │          PICKLIST.                                                         │
  147. │                                                                            │
  148. │          If the file does not exist, it will be created.                   │
  149. │                                                                            │
  150. │          If it already exists, the picklist output will be appended        │
  151. │          on the end of the existing file.                                  │
  152. │                                                                            │
  153. │          If you wish to start a new file, simply delete or rename the      │
  154. │          old file and the RMS Catalog program will take care of the rest.  │
  155. │                                                                            │
  156. │          You can use any text editor or word processor capable of          │
  157. │          handling text files on PICKLIST. No special codes or characters   │
  158. │          are imbedded in the file.                                         │
