RBVCR#4.TXT
This is the second batch of custom missions I have constructed using the
Red Baron Mission Builder. The first set was RBVCR#3. RBVCR#1 and RBVCR#2
are a pair of files containing hex edited VCR files from the early version
of Red Baron before the Mission Builder's release. Missions from those two
early files are to be flown using the Mission Recorder. The missions in
set #3 and #4 are to be flown using the two new items in the Red Baron
FLY SINGLE MISSION menu.
Five of these missions are pure fiction, but the five Udet missions included
with this batch are all based on actual accounts of missions he flew and
wrote about in his translated autobiography "ACE OF THE IRON CROSS". I've
even given you his famous red Fokker D.VII with the white stripes and his
girlfriend's name "Lo" on the sides in the mission where he is to fly that
particular aircraft.
I have included tapes that I have renamed from the .TAP format of the updated
game to .VCR. I have not tried these tapes in the Mission Recorder of the
old version of Red Baron so I cannot guaranty that these will work. Some of
these missions include new planes that only come with the Mission Builder
disk set, so those of you without the Mission Builder will not be able to
fly either the .CUS or .VCR version of the mission.
I hope you find them entertaining. Comments should be directed to me on
Prodigy: Keith Heitmann, #GVXV90A
Surprise Attack On the Ghent Zeppelin Facilities
------------------------------------------------
You must lead your group of Spad XIIIs on a low level attack at the Zeppelin
facilities there. Zeppelins were launched at times of the day when the winds
were still usually during the dawn or dusk hours. Attack any enemy targets
you find.
The area is likely to be patrolled by enemy scouts during the launch so be on
your toes.
Land at St. Marie Cappel after the mission is over.
Home Defense
------------
Your squadron of Sopwith Pups located at Ashford are in charge of protecting
London's southeastern approaches.
You are to fly due west to the rail line there and then south towards
Turnbridge Wells and intercept German raids crossing the Channel.
The composition of the entire German attack force is as yet unknown,
but you are armed with incendiary ammunition just in case.
Escort A Low Level Recon
------------------------
Escort a pair of recon aircraft on a low level penetration of the enemy
lines to city of St. Omer. Protect these planes to the best of your ability.
You will be passing near two enemy aerodromes and can expect some activity in
the area.
Land the at Ostend once you have completed the mission successfully.
Point Defense Of A Factory
--------------------------
You and your wingmen have been assigned to a field near the factory north of
Cambrai in the Somme sector. This factory is being used to stockpile spare
parts for aircraft near at the front.
The enemy is known to be up to something in regards to this vital area.
Scramble your aircraft and meet any threats to this factory, which must be
protected at all costs. Land at the Cambrai aerodrome.
Targets
-------
You and your wingman will take your Fokker D.VIIIs on a patrol behind enemy
lines in the Dunkirk sector and attack all targets of opportunity you find
there. Be thorough in your search you may have to cover the area more than
once.
Your course is: St.Marie Cappel, Furnes, Dunkirk, St. Omer, J5,
Ypes, Courtrai.
This mission require that you have more than 583,680 bytes of
free memory for it to run properly.
UDET1
-----
Udet was alone at his airfield when word came down of 2 enemy planes crossing
the lines. He scrambled Fokker Eindecker, but when he got there it turned out
to be a formation of 23 enemy bombers. He stalked this group until his
squadron mates arrived. During this battle Udet scored a kill on a bomber.
His first victory. Intercept the bomber formation heading NE to the RR
station in the Verdun sector. Land at Tellancourt.
UDET2
-----
Udet was immediately taken on a patrol led by the Baron with 3 other wingmen.
Flying the Fokker Dr.I for the first time, Udet scored his 21st victory
downing an R.E.8. Later the squadron engaged a squadron of Camels patrolling
a road behind enemy lines. Had Udet failed to acquit himself adequately in
his first patrol he would have been immediately transferred out. Stay in
formation on the port wing of #4 and scramble to make that kill then land
back at Douai.
UDET3
-----
Udet led the enitre 4th staffel to the defense of some German balloons being
attacked by S.E.5a's. During this action Udet shot down the enemy leader
after he flamed a German balloon. Udet was pursued by 3 veteran enemy pilots.
Wounded in his knee the incendiary round lodged itself in his ammo tray. As
the enemy closed, Udet desperately fired off his ammo to prevent a fire from
starting. The phospherous smoke and tracers fooled the enemy and Udet was
saved.
UDET4
-----
Morning, June, 1916, Udet flew a lone mission hoping to catch an enemy
balloon. He climbed to 15,000 ft. and just as he saw an enemy pusher aircraft
he was attacked head on by a Spad 7 piloted by Guynemer. Udets guns jammed.
Guynemer spared the German pilot's life and flew away.
Take off. Head due south climbing. Fly along the trench line climbing to
15,000 ft. Fly the entire length west and back before landing at Metz.
UDET5
-----
July 2, 1918, dawn. The Jasta is awakened by German Flak batteries nearby.
They scramble and Udet hurridly runs and dresses on the way to his plane.
He is one of the last to get airborne and by the time he arrives on the scene
the battle between American Nieuports and German Fokkers has been joined. He
manages to down an American on Loewnehart's tail.
Fly southwest and attempt to catch up with the Loewenhart and join the
battle. Land at Laon.
NOTE: Due to some special changes that I've added to a few of these missions
by means of a hex editing program the "Aircraft Lost" box on the
mission review screen will not reflect the correct number. In most
cases it will show "514" instead of the actual number.
