WHAT IS QUIKWEATHER
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This Program offers an easy and quick method for Sysops to enter the
current weather forecast, to be displayed as a text file with built-in
Telegard MCI colors.
The output appears as follows (with Telegard MCI color codes included):
▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
QuikWeather v2.1 - DataCom USA Software (812) 949-7743
▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
Inputting the data is very easy. Simply type QWEATHER to input today's
data.
You have two lines in which to place the current forecast (remember that
you don't need to mention highs or lows in the forecast narrative, as
they are listed separately in their own display below the forecast.)
If you simply hit <CR> at the Precipition prompt, the default listing
of "none" will be printed.
HOW DO I SET IT UP?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Even easier! First, you must modify the QWEATHER.CFG file:
Frank Fendley - DataCom USA Software
DataCom USA
c:\bbs\afiles\
logon1.msg
Y
Y
Y
99
99
99
99
--------------------------------------------------------
'Line 1 - Name of your BBS
'Line 2 - Path to your Afiles Dir (MUST HAVE TRAILING \)
'Line 3 - Name of ASCII output file
'Line 4 - Y/N for forced pause before file is displayed
'Line 5 - Y/N for initial clear screen
'Line 6 - Y/N for forced pause after file is displayed
'Line 7 - MCI Color for Graphic Lines (0-9, 99 sets to default)
'Line 8 - MCI Color for Header Titles (0-9, 99 sets to default)
'Line 9 - MCI Color for Subtitles (0-9, 99 sets to default)
'Line 10 - MCI Color for Forecast and Temps (0-9, 99 sets to default)
Set these for your individual requirements. Note that the path
statement in line 2 must have a trailing \ (such as c:\bbs\afiles\).
Line 4 determines if a pause will be forced to all users (even those
that have the pause turned off in their configuration) Setting this
to Y may cause 2 consecutive pauses to be delivered to those users
who have their pause set to on.
Line 5 determines if the screen will be cleared before the file is
displayed. If you set this option to on without setting option 4 to
on, users with the pause turned off will have the previous screen
cleared before they can finish reading it. The solution to this is
to either set both lines 4 and 5 to Y, or make sure all of your users
have their pause option turned on (there are Telegard 2.7 utilities
to globally perform this function).
Line 6 determines if a paused will be forced to all users AFTER the
bulletin has been displayed.
Lines 7-10 determine the MCI colors used for various parts of the
weather bulletin. If you leave these lines set to 99, the default
colors will be used. You may change any or all of these numbers to
utilize the appropriate MCI color (0-9) in a particular area (graphic
lines, header, subtitles, or forecast and temperatures.)
To display the file in Telegard you can make the LOGON1.MSG
be any of the logon message files (ie .. Logon.msg, Logon1.msg). By
calling the file a Logon*.MSG file it will display the weather for that day
when the user logs on. The purpose of the .MSG is so that when a user
with color logs in they will see a color weather report, if a non-color
user logs in it will be displayed in plain grey.
If you wish to make the weather a bulletin your users can choose to view,
you may set the file name to bullet?.msg, where ? is a valid bulletin
designator from your bulletin menu (0-9, A-Z)
If you wish to set it up in Telegard simply do the following:
Add a new menu command and modify it as follows:
1. Long descript :(V)iew Today's Weather Forcast
2. Short descript:(V)iew Weather
3. Cmd letters :V
4. ACS required :s10
5. Cmdkeys :-F
6. MString :<Name of ANSI/ASCII file>
7. Flags :none
Q. Quit
This command can be put in any menu you wish.
NOTE: Make sure that the QWEATHER.CFG file stays
in the same directory as the QWEATHER.EXE file.
UPGRADING FROM VERSION 2.0
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The configuration file (QWEATHER.CFG) contains additional lines of
data for the optional MCI color codes. Therefore, the QWEATHER.CFG
used with version 2.0 must be replaced with the new QWEATHER.CFG
packaged with version 2.1.
