INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Shareware Version 3.0
GENERAL INFORMATION
There are two versions of the PMIS ShareWare version
being distributed. One has been archived with PKARC,
creates .ARC files, and another that was archived with
PKZIP, which creates .ZIP files. In the installation
procedures below, the .ARC file is referenced, as well as
the PKXARC expansion function. If you have the .ZIP
version, just substitute .ZIP for .ARC, and substitute
PKUNZIP for PKXARC. Also, ARC-E.COM will decompress the
The .ZIP version requires the use of PKUNZIP.EXE Version
2.04C or higher. Earlier versions will not unarchive the
program, but will result in errors and possibly some partial
file extraction being successful. If you do not get all of
the files listed in this document, you have the incorrect
version of PKUNZIP.EXE.
You have just unarchived the main PMIS.ARC file.
The first level reveals three files:
PROG.ARC
DATA.ARC
README.1ST (This file)
The purpose of the recursive archiving is to accommodate
users that have only dual floppy drives. There
are two different installation instructions included
below: One for the HARD DRIVE user
and one for the 720K, 1.44M or 1.2M floppy user. Note
that due to the program's size dual 360K byte floppy
disks cannot be used.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
HARD DRIVE USER
The hard drive user should place all data and program
files in a single directory. The following procedure
unarchives and places all files in a single user
defined sub directory.
1. Make a directory for the program to reside. For
example:
MKDIR \PMIS
- 2 -
2. Unarchive the PROG.ARC file and place it in the
directory created in step 1. For example:
PKXARC PROG \PMIS
3. Unarchive the DATA.ARC file and place it in the
directory created in step 1. For example:
PKXARC DATA \PMIS
Installation for the hard drive user is now complete. To
execute the program, change to the directory created in
step 1 and enter the command PMIS.
DUAL FLOPPY USER
To install PMIS on floppy disks, follow this installation
procedure. You will need two formatted, blank disks.
Only 1.2M 5.25 in. disks or any 3.5 in. disks may be used.
1. Copy the PKXARC or PKUNZIP software needed to unarchive PMIS
on to this disk, ie the disk that contains the 2 .ARC
files unarchived earlier. Put this disk in drive A.
2. Insert a formatted, blank disk into drive B.
Unarchive the DATA.ARC file on to drive B. For
example:
PKXARC DATA B:
Label this disk DATA and remove it from drive B.
3. Insert a formatted, blank disk into drive B.
Unarchive the PROGRAM.ARC file on to drive B. For
example:
PKXARC PROG B:
Label this disk PROGRAM and remove it from drive B.
Installation of PMIS for the 720K, 1.44M or 1.2M dual floppy
user is now complete. To execute the program, insert
the PROGRAM disk in drive A, the DATA disk in drive B,
change to drive A, and enter the command PMIS.

each of the .ARC files required for executing the

(1-18).inf - 18 user information data files
All of these files, with the exception of the readme.1st
file are required for executing PMIS. If any files are
missing you have an altered version of the program; the
author recommends you discard it to avoid any unpredictable
or unwanted effects.
Another reason for not having all of the above required files
is that in the .ZIP version, an issue of PKUNZIP.EXE
earlier than 2.04C was used to decompress the file.
It is recommended that the first action upon entry to the
main menu screen is to select the set up screen. On the
set up screen select the Disk Drives option. The current
drives for the program, data, and backup are displayed. If
these drive names are different than those in your machine,
follow the set up instructions to change the drive names.
Finally, save the new disk drive configuration to disk using
the save option. This procedure should be done before using

any of the PMIS main menu features.
It is highly recommended that back up copies of the disks
created or files created in the hard drive directory be
made as a back up of the PMIS program to fall back on.
You can then experiment with all the features of the program
until you are familiar and comfortable with PMIS.
You can then discard this trial flight and begin with a new,
empty data base by copying the data files, that is files with
the .DBF suffix, from the back up copies made previously.
For the hard drive user, just copy all files with the .DBF
suffix into the directory that was created during installation.
The dual floppy user should proceed as follows:
1. Take the back up copy of the PROGRAM disk and copy the
the following files onto the working PROGRAM disk:
year.dbf
user.dbf
payeelst.dbf
cancom.dbf
direct.dbf
lists.dbf
2. Take the back up copy of the DATA disk and copy the
following files onto the the working DATA disk:
1993dat.dbf
1993cal.dbf
1993bud.dbf
1993sec.dbf
1993cctr.dbf
If for some reason the back up disks are unavailable, you
can re install PMIS using the above installation procedures,
provided that the two original .ARC files are still available.
If you do not make back up disks, at least save the the
original .ARC files used for installation along with a copy
of the README.1ST file, so you can re install the program.
Spend some time with PMIS, and I think you will see that
it is a program that you will want to keep and use.
PMIS FEATURE ENHANCEMENTS FOR VER 3.0
The previous version of PMIS has been expanded to include several
new features suggested by registered owners. Also, some program
inconsistencies (bugs?) have been eliminated. Finally, some
user screens have been refined to improve their look and feel.
- 5 -
Users of version 2.0 will immediately notice the improvements
and should welcome the added features.
The following is a list of the changes, enhancements and features
that have been added to version 2.0 to create PMIS version 3.0.
1. Enhanced the search function to allow more search options
and flexibility. Screen redesigned for easier use.
2. Checking account deposits may now have comments
associated with them.
3. Improved the on-line help (F1 key) readability and color
scheme.
4. The ShareWare exit disclaimer screen sometimes had mutilated
colors.
5. Added version number to order form.
6. Database creation for next year when none existed for this
year could not be done; this is no longer a problem.
7. Last check number displayed would be in error after voiding
a check or deleting particular checks from database. Problem
has been fixed.
8. Improved the check edit function. Can more easily change
budget class of check from descriptive list.
9. Added author's CompuServe ID to documentation to expand
user support options.
10. Allow registered owner to update their address; necessary for
keeping return address labels current.
11. Some checks ending .10 would print as 0*/100 on face of check.
Problem is fixed.
12. Improved user interface in the Post program.
13. Calculator did not always have a cursor; problem resolved.
14. Calculator did not correctly transfer results when updating
checking account balance. Works correctly now.
