  12.        This screen displays the present balance in the account.  It
  13.        also provides the opportunity to change its value, if you
  14.        and the bank disagree on the balance in the account.  An
  15.        alternative is to convince the bank to change their balance
  16.        to agree with yours.

  18.        12.2.2  Today's Balance
  19.  
  20.        This feature is very handy if you are like me and issue
  21.        checks in advance and then mail them as they come due.  The
  22.        balance displayed in this case will add in all checks that
  23.        have been post dated, ie have dates greater than today's
  24.        date, thereby telling the user exactly how much cash is
  25.        available at that instant in time.

  27.        12.2.3  Search
  28.  
  29.        This function is perhaps the most useful one in the personal
  30.        checking feature.  It allows you to obtain and optionally
  31.        print information for almost any or all checks and cash
  32.        transactions.  You can search for one check, a range of
  33.        checks, cash withdrawls, check credit payments, deposits,
  34.        and service charges for a given date range, or a range of
  35.        checks defined by a starting and ending check number.  When
  36.        searching on a date range, you can specify a single payee to
  37.        get all checks issued to that party.

  39.        All of the above transactions can be further delineated by
  40.        tax deductible or not, or by a selected budget category.
  41.        One extremely useful application is at tax time to print a
  42.        report of all tax deductible checks and a report of all
  43.        charitable contributions.

  47.        The last entry made into the database is displayed.  This
  48.        feature is very useful in determining where a user left off
  49.        in recording transactions during the last PMIS session.

  51.        12.2.5  Unposted
  52.  
  53.        The unposted entries feature is used primarily for obtaining
  54.        a current balance for comparison with a bank statement as
  55.        described above.  The user is asked if a printed report is
  56.        needed.  The report then is either printed or displayed on
  57.        the screen.  The total at the conclusion of the report is
  58.        the sum of all unposted outstanding checks and cash

  75.        bank statement value at the conclusion of the report is the
  76.        value of your account balance shown on the bank statement if
  77.        all transactions on the bank statement have been posted.  To
  78.        use this feature effectively, the Post feature described
  79.        below should be performed for all transactions on the bank
  80.        statement.

  84.        Whenever a bank statement arrives, this feature is used to
  85.        mark the transactions in the database as having been paid
  86.        and canceled.  Used in conjunction with the listing of
  87.        unposted entries feature, it allows the user to quickly
  88.        determine if the bank statement agrees with the balance in
  89.        the program.  The balance in the program added to the total
  90.        figure in the unposted entries report should be equal to the
  91.        bank statement balance.  This is true because the unposted
  92.        entries report sums all outstanding checks and cash
  93.        withdrawls and subtracts all deposits yielding either a
  94.        positive or negative number to be added to the balance in
  95.        the account.  The bank statement value displayed at the
  96.        conclusion of the report provides the result of this
  97.        calculation.
