AMAZING SPEED!
The DataPort family of high-speed fax modems delivers the highest
performance in the industry--tested and proven the leader in
connecting calls, even on noisy, impaired lines. Here's how.
The DataPort family features AT&T's new, exclusive Optical phone
Line Interface (OLI), patent pending, an optical coupler between
the phone line and modem that outperforms conventional
transformer-based technology.
Modem couplers serve to protect the modem's circuitry. However,
traditional transformer-based couplers normally add some noise to
the data stream. On bad lines, when noise starts to overpower
your data, this additional distortion can cause the modem to fall
back in speed and fail to perform. In contrast, AT&T's advanced
Optical phone Line Interface limits distortion, sustains the
signal quality, and maintains higher speeds--even on weak "real
world" phone lines.
By maintaining higher speeds, and by using data compression
(V.42bis) and error correction (V.42), the DataPort 14.4/Fax
Modem gives you effective throughput of up to 57,600 bps across
ordinary phone lines. That's 4 times faster than lesser 14,400
bps modems and 24 times faster than 2,400 bps modems!
REMARKABLE VALUE!
Faster transmission means lower line costs. Simply put, the
DataPort 14.4/Fax Modem can save you enough in long distance
costs to pay for itself in less than six months. After that, your
monthly long distance savings puts money in your pocket! Look at
how quickly it pays you back. (See illustration below.)
Based on sending 1 Megabyte of data per week at a long distance
phone line cost of 20¢ a minute, a 2,400 bps modem takes 70
minutes to transfer data, while the DataPort 14.4/Fax Modem takes
only 4.2 minutes; assumes an average throughput of 40,000 bps;
maximum throughput up to 57,600 bps.
The DataPort 9.6/Fax Modem delivers comparable savings at 9,600
bps. Both models expand your personal computer into a fax
workstation--for the price of fax machine alone! You only need--
and pay for--one phone line for both modem and fax.

HASSLE-FREE COMPATIBILITY!
Designed by AT&T Bell Laboratories and AT&T Paradyne; tested and
proven to be compatible with virtually all modems, all speeds,
and all standards. DataPort modems automatically sense and adjust
to the line speed of other modems, and easily connect--even to
older, slower modems.
And DataPort fax modems are compatible with standard 9,600 to
2,400 bps fax machines and fax modems (Group 3), and certified to
work with popular communications/fax software (Class 1).
UNSURPASSED AT&T RELIABILITY
The DataPort family features the same robust, award-winning
technology designed for large data centers by AT&T Bell Labs and
AT&T Paradyne.
We invented modem technology over 35 years ago. In rigorous
laboratory testing and daily use, we've demonstrated our solid
product reliability.
The DataPort builds on this excellence, and to prove it, AT&T
backs the DataPort with a lifetime warranty and toll-free service
and support.
Now you can enjoy the benefits of our experience: highest
performance, excellent value, and the industry's widest
compatibility. Proudly made by AT&T Paradyne in the USA.
JUST ASK AT&T. WE'LL GLADLY HELP YOU.
WHICH FAX MODEM IS RIGHT FOR YOU? AT&T has the answer. Choose
from five models in the DataPort family to serve your exact
needs.
WHAT IS THE REAL-LIFE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 14,400 AND 9,600 BPS?
Speed really pays when you typically dial long distance to your
customers, headquarters office, information services, and
bulletin boards--especially to transfer data-intensive files and
fax images. Also, think ahead to serving your future customers
and to accessing new databases for business or home. The high-
speed DataPort 14.4/Fax Modem runs nearly 24 times faster than
2,400 bps modems and significantly rewards you in phone line cost
savings. The DataPort 9.6/Fax Modem is ideally suited for mostly-
local fax and modem use. And it's the next best value to the
DataPort 14.4/Fax Modem.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF AN INTERNAL VS. EXTERNAL MODEL? The
DataPort family's AT-bus internal card modem fits neatly inside
your PC. It conserves desktop space and requires no additional
connector cables. Further, it discourages unwanted access when
you're not around.
On the other hand, an external modem frees space inside your PC
and facilitates sharing the DataPort fax modem with PCs near your
desk. And it can easily serve double-duty for office and home.
HOW IMPORTANT IS COMPATIBILITY? Very important, especially with
today's varying modems, speeds, and standards. If you can't
easily connect to new online services, BBSs, customers and
prospects, it's frustrating and embarrassing. Moreover lengthy
re-trying increases your long distance costs. DataPort fax
modems will sense and adjust to slower speeds and connect easily,
even to older modems. You gain the highest compatibility in the
industry.
HOW DOES THE FAX WORK? DataPort fax modems let you transmit fax
images directly to and from fax machines and fax modems, without
the expense of a separate fax machine.
And because you send faxes directly from your desktop computer,
the receiving fax machine can print presentation-quality images
without getting that "faxed" look. You can print faxes on your
laser printer and save the cost and inconvenience of stocking fax
paper.
WHAT IF I DON'T NEED FAX CAPABILITY? If you really think you'll
never miss having an all-in-one fax and modem, then choose the
DataPort 14.4 Modem. It gives you high-speed 14,400 bps
performance, compatibility, and reliability--backed by AT&T!
EXCITING DATAPORT FAMILY HIGH-SPEED FAX MODEMS.
Highest Performance. Through AT&T's Optical phone Line
Interface (OLI), pat. pending, and using V.42bis data
compression and V.42 error correction, the DataPort family
of fax modems connects more easily and maintains high speeds
and data integrity, even on noisy, impaired lines. Achieves
an effective throughput of up to 38,400 and 57,600 bps.
Excellent Value. Faster transmission means lower long
distance phone costs. Improves productivity, saves time.
FREE communications/fax software for DOS and Windows
included. Also ask about software support for the Macintosh.
Industry's Widest Compatibility. DataPort fax modems sense
and adjust to the line speed of other modems; connect to
high-speed modems and all speeds down to 300 bps.
AT&T Commitment. Reliability backed by AT&T's lifetime
warranty and helpful, toll-free support.
