  21.         Descended from many generations of pack-rats, the author had old
  22.         wills, land deeds, and diaries that make mention of relatives not
  23.         in my direct line (Aunt Sarah, Uncle Abe, Aunt Anna, Cousin
  24.         Charlie, etc.)  Who are these people???  How do they fit into the
  25.         picture???  Not one genealogy program seemed to provide a quick
  26.         and easy way to show all of great-grandma's close relatives, even
  27.         if their data had been entered.  Family Viewer was written to fill
  28.         that gap.

  30.         Family Viewer is not a general purpose genealogy database program. 
  31.         Although it uses its own data structures, this data CANNOT be
  32.         changed and can ONLY be entered by reading in a GEDCOM file
  33.         generated by some other program such as PAF.

  35.         For convenience, Family Viewer allows you to preview a GEDCOM file
  36.         without having to convert and save the data.  This would be useful
  37.         if you want to see how large it is and what family names are
  38.         included.  the program will read the file displaying the number of
  39.         individuals, families and family names.  When finished, it will
  40.         display a list box of all the family names.

  42.         When names are entered, they are converted into 'metaphs' to be
  43.         used for searching.  A metaph is similar to a soundex code, but it
  44.         uses only letters instead of letters and numbers.  (See Metaphone

  47.         Photographs, maps, coats-of-arms, or any document that can be put
  48.         into a graphics file using the 'PCX' format can be attached to a
  49.         person, along with a comment, and displayed by this program.
