  22.         The Personal Ancestral File Genealogy System produced and sold by
  23.         the Church of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) is an extremely good,
  24.         inexpensive way for genealogists to organize their data.  For
  25.         storage and searches it is hard to beat, but its output is very
  26.         generic and is often not optimal for certain uses.  Along with the
  27.         usual pedigree charts and family group sheets, PAF produces a
  28.         descendant chart.  It is limited in nature and outputs just the
  29.         generation number, name,date of birth,and RIN of the descendants. 
  30.         You can route it to screen, disk, or printer but you have no
  31.         control over the contents.

  33.         DESCEND was created to produce a more useful and flexible
  34.         descendant chart.  It produces an expanded chart with up to 16
  35.         generations, 5 marriages per person, and 20 children per couple.
  36.         There is a limit of 5,000 selected marriages.  An individual entry
  37.         consists of a descendant with birth, death, and (optional) notes
  38.         followed by a spouse with birth, marriage, death, (optional)
  39.         parent data, and notes.  This pattern is then repeated for their
  40.         children.  An index is generated after the chart.  Up to 5,200
  41.         index entries can be produced and the user is warned if the index
  42.         cannot be completed.

  44.         The chart can be routed to three output sources: printer, screen,
  45.         or disk file.  Printer drivers for about 40 printers can be
  46.         selected and custom drivers can also constructed for a specific
  47.         other printers.  DESCEND requires a printer which will support a
  48.         16 pitch font to operate  correctly since it indents for each
  49.         generation.
