  26.         GIPSI converts GEDCOM files created from IGI records into a file
  27.         capable of being used in most databases and spreadsheets,
  28.         including PAF's RDF.

  33.         Family History Centers throughout the world now offer personal
  34.         computers for their patrons to use. Each computer has a copy of
  35.         the IGI (International Genealogical Index) on compact disc. The
  36.         user is able to select IGI records and save them to disk, in one
  37.         of two formats: as text(ASCII) files or GEDCOM files. However,
  38.         these files are hard to work with. Most people are only able to
  39.         use them in PAF (Personal Ancestral File). This is hard work due
  40.         to the thousands of 2-generation pedigree charts created by GIE
  41.         Genealogical Information Exchange) while converting the file to
  42.         PAF format.

  44.         GIPSI offers a better solution by converting the GEDCOM file into
  45.         a file capable of being used in most databases and spreadsheets. 
  46.         Most databases and spreadsheets allow you to search, filter, and
  47.         sort records. Thus the user may  be able to have a giant library
  48.         of IGI records that are easy to work with.  In this fashion one
  49.         could: obtain all records from a particular city or parish; see
  50.         all events occurring between two dates; etc.  GIPSI provides
  51.         services through easy to use windows and pop-up menus.

  53.         PLEASE NOTE: GEDCOM files created from the IGI have a format
  54.         unlike most GEDCOM files. GIPSI relies on this format.  GEDCOM
  55.         files that are not created from the IGI or are not in GEDCOM 2.1
  56.         format will not work with GIPSI.
