  26.         DESCEND reads Personal Ancestral File (PAF) data and produces an
  27.         expanded descendant chart with up to 16 generations, 5 marriages
  28.         per person, and 20 children per couple.

  33.         The Personal Ancestral File Genealogy System produced and  sold by
  34.         the Church of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) is an extremely  good,
  35.         inexpensive way for genealogists to organize their data.   For
  36.         storage and searches it is hard to beat, but its output is  very
  37.         generic and is often not optimal for certain uses.   Along with
  38.         the usual pedigree charts and family group  sheets, PAF produces
  39.         a descendant chart.  It is limited in nature  and outputs just 
  40.         the generation number, name,date of birth,and RIN of the
  41.         descendants.  You can route it to screen, disk, or  printer but
  42.         you have no control over the contents.

  44.         DESCEND was created to produce a more useful and flexible
  45.         descendant chart.  It produces an expanded chart with up to 16
  46.         generations, 5 marriages per person, and 20 children per couple.
  47.         There is a  limit of 5,000 selected marriages.  An individual
  48.         entry consists  of a descendant with birth, death, and (optional)
  49.         notes followed  by a spouse with birth, marriage, death,
  50.         (optional) parent data,  and notes.  This pattern is then repeated
  51.         for their children.  An  index is generated after the chart.  Up
  52.         to 5,200 index entries  can be produced and the user is warned if
  53.         the index cannot be  completed.

  55.         The chart can be routed to three output sources:   printer,
  56.         screen, or disk file.  Printer drivers for about 40  printers can
  57.         be selected and custom drivers can also constructed for a 
  58.         specific other printers.  DESCEND requires a printer which will
  59.         support a 16 pitch font to operate  correctly since it indents for
  60.         each generation.
