AutoCAD FOR DOS NOW RUNS UNDER OS/2 2.0
Software Patches Available Via CompuServe
Sausalito, CA - February 2, 1993 - Autodesk announced today that AutoCAD
Release 12 for DOS can now be run under IBM's OS/2 2.0 operating
environment. This is accomplished through customer installation of two
patches that enable AutoCAD to run a full-screen DOS application under OS/2
2.0. Available from Autodesk and IBM via CompuServe, an on-line information
service, the patches bring customers the benefits of OS/2's robust
multitasking support, making it possible to run more than one session of
AutoCAD as well as run other applications with AutoCAD software.
The patches are available as the result of a collaboration among Autodesk,
IBM and Phar Lap Software Inc., who together resolved incompatibilities
that previously prevented AutoCAD Release 12 for DOS from executing under
OS/2. The patches will be incorporated into future releases of OS/2 and
AutoCAD.
The Autodesk/Phar Lap DOS extender patch is available on the CompuServe
AutoCAD Forum (OS2PCH.ZIP in Library 6, Operating Systems/Networks).
The IBM DPMI (DOS Protected Mode Interface) patch is available on the
CompuServe IBM OS/2 forum, as well as in an OS/2 2.0 ServicePak, which can
be obtained by calling IBM HelpWare at 1-800-772-2227.
Autodesk officials noted that the company does not officially support OS/2
as an operating environment with AutoCAD Release 12, and that it has not
extensively tested the patches. Nevertheless, the patches provide a
functional solution for OS/2 2.0 users who want to use AutoCAD.
