  7.                   PHILOSOPHY OF PATIENT CARE

  10. WE EXIST TO PROVIDE CARE WHEN, WHERE AND HOW PEOPLE NEED AND DESIRE IT.
  11.  
  12. ALL patient care services in this facility are directed toward optimal quality
  13. patient care. The working philosophy acknowledges that:
  14.  
  15. a)  patients can be helped to find satisfaction in daily living despite
  16.     emotional, intellectual and physical limitations;
  17.  
  18. b)  every patient has some rehabilitation potential, however small, dependent
  19.     upon his degree of disability;
  20.  
  21. c)  geriatric patients face the inward look of aging, separation from family
  22.     and loss of contemporaries turning their daily living expectations toward
  23.     those at hand-the nursing service staff;
  24.  
  25. d)  family relationships of long-term patients often undergo  stress
  26.     and disruption;
  27.  
  28. e)  patients should be allowed to express hostile and depressed behaviour
  29.     without fear of rejection by personnel;
  30.  
  31. f)  hearing ,sight and taste diminish with age causing patients to react
  32.     subjectively when asked about their condition;
  33.  
  34. g)  patients should be encouraged to exercise the greatest degree of
  35.     independence possible; and
  36.  
  37. h)  patients whose condition is regressive or who are facing death should be
  38.     provided understanding and attendance beyond their physical care.
