  3. GATEWAY FOR VERIMATION MEMO WHITE PAPER
  4.  
  5. The WordPerfect Office Gateway for Verimation MEMO connects a
  6. WordPerfect Office system running on a PC LAN to a MEMO e-mail
  7. system on an IBM mainframe running under VM, MVS, or VSE. The
  8. gateway requires a local, physical connection between the
  9. mainframe and the PC LAN.

  11. GENERAL OVERVIEW
  12. With a Gateway for MEMO installed, Office users can communicate
  13. directly with MEMO users. Office users can send both Mail and
  14. Scheduler messages to MEMO users. However, Scheduler requests are
  15. converted to MEMO mail messages. MEMO users can send messages to
  16. Office Mail users. The gateway also gives Office users access to
  17. any other e-mail system accessible to the MEMO system, including
  18. other Office systems attached to remote mainframes.

  20. TECHNICAL OVERVIEW
  21. The Gateway for MEMO requires that the mainframe be running the
  22. following minimal levels of operating system and application
  23. software:  VM, MVS, or VSE (a release compatible with your MEMO
  24. release); VSAM (a release compatible with your MEMO release);
  25. Verimation MEMO 3.05 or later; MEMO/LU2 1.01 or later; and
  26. MEMO/GWY 1.02 or later. The MEMO/LU2 and MEMO/GWY options of the
  27. MEMO program must be purchased separately from the basic MEMO
  28. software package.

  30. The Gateway for MEMO is an add-on to the Connection Server--the
  31. message routing agent included in the WordPerfect Office for PC
  32. LANs package. The Connection Server is installed on a network
  33. station dedicated to Connection Server message routing and
  34. processing functions. The gateway consists of two programs--the
  35. gateway server program and the main gateway program. The gateway
  36. server program is installed on and executed by the Connection
  37. Server at specified intervals to transfer outbound messages to
  38. the gateway and download incoming messages. The Connection Server
  39. station running the gateway server program must meet the
  40. following minimum requirements:  80286 microprocessor, 640K RAM,
  41. 20MB hard disk, DOS 3.1, and Connection Server 3.0.

  43. The main gateway program, installed on a separate dedicated PC
  44. LAN station, handles message translation and communication with
  45. the MEMO e-mail system through the MEMO/LU2 product. The
  46. dedicated gateway station must have a direct physical connection
  47. to the mainframe, using SDLC (Synchronous Data-Link Control), IBM
  48. Token-Ring, or an IBM 3270 Terminal Emulation Adapter. The
  49. gateway station must also have an IBM 3270 Emulation Program or
  50. compatible software that supports DFT (Distributed Function
  51. Terminal) and EHLLAPI (Extended High Level Language Application
  52. Programming Interface).

  54. MESSAGE ADDRESSING--OFFICE TO MEMO
  55. To send a message to a MEMO user, an Office user must know the
  56. gateway name, the user's MEMO distribution group, and the user's
  57. MEMO ID, as shown in the example below.

  61. To make addressing easy for local Office users, the system
  62. administrator can create single-word aliases for frequently
  63. addressed MEMO recipients. Or users can create personal groups
  64. that include MEMO user addresses.

  66. MESSAGE ADDRESSING--MEMO TO OFFICE
  67. A MEMO user addressing a message to an Office user through the
  68. gateway needs to know what the gateway was named in the MEMO
  69. system plus the user's Office host name and user ID. In the
  70. example below, LisaM is a user on the Acctg host in the Office
  71. system. The gateway is known as WPO in the MEMO system.
