  24.               attributes for that area.

  37.               package to update your configuration files before using this
  38.               version.

  40.             - QWK2MSG is the only module updated in this release.

  42.             + Turned on the "Local" attribute bit.  GEcho doesn't include
  43.               messages in the .PKT without this bit turned on.  Don't know
  44.               why it needs this bit turned on;  Qmail worked fine with this
  45.               bit turned off. I'll make these attribute bits configurable in
  46.               a future version.

  48.             + Null-termination weren't being added to messages already
  49.               containing a network tagline.

  52. 08-Oct-1992 - Partially completed the QWK to REP (QWK2REP.EXE) conversion
  53.               module.
  54.  
  55.             + QWK to REP conversion is useful in environment where the
  56.               FidoNet *.MSG isn't desired. QWK2REP can convert the host
  57.               BBS's QWK packet into a .REP packet for uploading to the local
  58.               BBS. It's working, but not quite complete, 2 separate BBS
  59.               setup is required if you want to use this module now.
  60.  
  61.             + Had to do a quick fix on the tag that I put on imported/sent
  62.               messages.  It was being erased by Maximus when the message was
  63.               replied to.  This caused FidoQWK to pick these messages up as
  64.               new messages.
  65.  
  66.               The tag now uses the "Originate Node" and "Cost" field in the
  67.               *.MSG header. I don't see any BBS software using these fields,
  68.               but let me know if it interferes with the BBS software.  It
  69.               may have to be visible if I can't use the message header to
  70.               store it.

  76.             + Properly updates the extra date/time fields that Opus and
  77.               Maximus uses.

  82.             + Reworked the SysOp name translation functions.  This function
  83.               will be used on the command line for now:

  85.                 To translate "SYSOP" to "GEOFFREY SY" in all the "FROM:"
  86.                 field in the messages, use: /TF:SYSOP=GEOFFREY;SY
  87.  
  88.                 To translate the "TO:" field, use: /TT:SYSOP=GEOFFREY;SY.
  89.  
  90.               Both the /TF and /TT functions work with both MSG2REP as well
  91.               as QWK2MSG.
  92.  
  93.             + The PURGE.EXE utility is used to remove all the *.MSG files
  94.               and reset the high-water marks to 1.
  95.  
  96.             - If you've been using the /IS (ignore sent) switch, you should
  97.               stop using it now.  This version of FidoQWK no longer observes
  98.               or uses the "sent attribute".  If the /IS switch is used, all
  99.               messages, including messages created with FidoQWK will be sent
  100.               to the .REP packet.

  103. 20-Aug-1992 - It's weird that there are more phone calls for me when I'm
  104.               being hit with a fever.  It's also weird that I caught a fever
  105.               in the middle of summer.

  107.             + Forgot to update FQSETUP on the last release.  FQSETUP is now
  108.               updated to use the FidoNet standard of storing the echomail
  109.               message pointers.
  110.  
  111.             ! To the person from (Syracuse, NY) who left me the numbers
  112.               1-216-966-####, I couldn't connect.  With this fever and
  113.               head-ache I'm having, I probably wrote down the wrong number.
  114.               I checked the area codes listing and noticed that 216 is not
  115.               in Syracuse, even with my head-ache, it's not possible for me
  116.               to miss the area code by this magnitude.

  119. 12-Aug-1992 - There goes another ten thousand strands of hair.
  120.  
  121.             - I screwed up version 1.06 when I added the line-wrap routine.
  122.               The buffer in the line-wrap routine didn't get flushed, this
  123.               caused the same message to be sent many times.
  124.  
  125.               PLEASE DELETE VERSION 1.06.  IT DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY!
  126.  
  127.             - I had some time to do some more reading on the FTSC and some
  128.               other FidoNet notes.  I've found that the 1.MSG is used for
  129.               storing echomail high-water mark.  FidoQWK will now follow
  130.               this standard of maintaining echomail pointers.  This should
  131.               help those who had to reset the pointers manually when the
  132.               message base was renumbered, purged, or reset.  If you had
  133.               been using the /IP switch you can stop doing that now, unless
  134.               really want to scan the message base from the first message.

  139.             - Added line-wrap function.  This only affects *.MSG -> .REP
  140.               conversion, only MSG2REP.EXE is updated.

  145.             - The alias 'SYSOP' didn't get translated to the real name on
  146.               outgoing messages.
  147.  
  148.             - Renamed the executables for planned support of other FidoNet
  149.               message formats.  I'm looking into supporting Squish and Fido
  150.               packet 2 format in the near future.  Currently only the Fido
  151.               *.MSG format is supported.
  152.  
  153.                        FID2REP has been renamed to MSG2REP
  154.                        QWK2FID has been renamed to QWK2MSG
  155.  
  156.             - The lock up problems caused just prior to shelling out to the
  157.               compression program may have been caused by the EMS check on
  158.               some machines. This version of FidoQWK will no longer check
  159.               for EMS when shelling out.
  160.  
  161.               Hopefully the following options will fix this problem:
  162.  
  163.             - Use the /SWAP or /EMS option if swapping to disk or EMS when
  164.               executing the compression program is desired.
  165.  
  166.            -  Use /FS to tell FidoQWK to use Full-Screen when executing the
  167.               ZIP and unZIP programs.
  168.  
  169.             - Added the /NS (No Shell) option.  Use this switch to tell
  170.               FidoQWK not to run the compression/decompression programs.
  171.               When this option is used, QWK2MSG expects that the QWK packet
  172.               had already been unpacked into the work directory.
  173.  
  174.               With this option enabled, MSG2REP will create the BBS_ID.MSG
  175.               file in the current directory.  This BBS_ID.MSG packet needs
  176.               to be manually compressed into BBS_ID.REP before sending to
  177.               the QWK mail door.
  178.  
  179.             - The /IT switch is no longer supported, I've been informed that
  180.               it is not for used the way I had used it.
  181.  
  182.             - The /IS (Ignore Sent) switch was added.  Use this switch to
  183.               ignore the "Sent" attribute on the *.MSG files.  I'm not sure
  184.               if this attribute bit needs to be checked or not.  I didn't
  185.               find any information in the FTS drafts on the use of these
  186.               attributes.  If someone knows anything about these bits I'd
  187.               appreciate any information.
  188.  
  189.               I might add some code to update the *.MSG files' "Sent"
  190.               attribute.  Let me know if this is desirable or necessary??
  191.               Because the *.MSG packets are normally created as a temporary
  192.               process so I don't see it necessary to update this attribute.
  193.  
  194.             - Normally MSG2REP will scan *.MSG files from the highest number
  195.               it scanned last.  This may not be desirable in some cases, so
  196.               I've added a switch to ignore this "last scanned pointer" and
  197.               scan all available messages.  To ignore this last scanned
  198.               pointers, use the /IP switch on the command line.
  199.  
  200.             Please use the /IS, /IP switches with caution because re-dumping
  201.             messages back to the net can cause you to loss your mail feed
  202.             privileges.
  203.  
  204.             - Tip: Mail import & export are very disk intensive operations.
  205.               The use of delay-write cache such as the new SMARTDrive 4 and
  206.               HyperDisk with the staged write option enable will speed up
  207.               these operations as well as easing the stress load on the hard
  208.               drive. To enable delay-write on HyperDisk use the S T:n option
  209.               on the command line.  Change the T:n to a value that gets the
  210.               best performance on your system.
