GETTING INTRODUCED
* ABOUT THIS MANUAL
Since EZ CO*DE is meant to make your life simpler, we'll try to keep this
manual simple too; telling you just what you need to know. After you have
"tinkered" around with it for a while, the auto help lines in the program
will be all you'll need. BE SURE TO READ THE WARNINGS ON MOVING FILES.
* WHAT IS EZ CO*DE?
EZ CO*DE is a shareware computer shell program which, when used with a
compatible archiving utility, provides the user with a menu driven multiple
choice method of enjoying archiver benefits. EZ CO*DE supports :
.ZIP, .LZH, .PAK, .ARC, .SDN, .ARJ and .ZOO files along with their self
extraction counterparts. EZ CO*DE allows simple file compression and
decompression or more sophisticated tasks if your situation calls for them.
* WHAT IS NEEDED TO RUN EZ CO*DE ?
You must have one of the following archiving programs. To use the other
features listed in the table you must attain the corresponding programs.
These programs must be installed in a directory in your path.
EZ CO*DE SUPPORTS ALL OF THESE METHODS AND THEIR PREVIOUS VERSIONS.
┌─────────────────────┬──────────────┬────────────┐
│ Archive │ Needed For │ Needed For │
│ Program │ Self Extract │ Recursion │
├─────────────────────┼──────────────┼────────────┤
│ PKZIP & PKUNZIP 2.0 │ ZIP2EXE 1.1 │ None │

│ PAK 2.51 │ None │ None │
│ ARJ 2.30 │ None │ None │
│ ZOO 2.1 │ SEZ 2.3 │ STUFF 1.0 │
└─────────────────────┴──────────────┴────────────┘
* None means the option is included in the archive program.
EZ CO*DE will run on any IBM compatible XT/AT computer using DOS 2.1 and
up, and supports any Microsoft compatible mouse. It uses about 185K of
working memory, plus memory for the archiving utility. When directories or
archives contain more than 400 files, more memory will be used. A hard disk
is recommended. EZ CO*DE supports CGA, EGA and VGA display adapters.
GETTING INSTALLED
Simply put a copy of EZCODE.EXE in a directory in your path. You may change
the name to suit your needs (ie EC.EXE). To run type <EZCODE>. Make sure
the archive programs you wish to use are located in your path.
NOTE : EZCODE makes and removes a directory called "$e" in the root
directory of the startup drive to view files from archives. If EZCODE finds
this directory to exist, it will yield a warning at startup.

displays the name "..\test.zip" and reports that it is new. Note that
test.zip does not actually exist until files are added to it.
- TAGGING FILES FOR COMPRESSION -
If the Directory window does not contain any files, select " Directory "
to choose a directory which does. Now, tag some arbitrary files in the
Directory window. To tag a file, click on it to hightlight it and click it
again to tag it. An '*' appears in the TAG column confirming selection.
- COMPRESSING THE TAGGED FILES -
Select "Add" from the main menu. Select "Overwrite ...". Select "Tagged".
Your screen reports that compression is taking place. When you return, note
that test.zip contains the files you tagged.

PAGE 6
* FLAG LINE (Second row on screen)
By clicking on the encapsulated letter or pressing the corresponding key,
you can toggle ON or off the following flags :
[D]irectory [R]ecursion [P]assword [A]uthenticity
Here are some general explanations for these flags. Because each archive
method has its own idiosyncrasies, you should see the documentation for the
particular archive method you are using.
Directory use :
When this flag is activated, files in the archive will be stored with their
path names and extracted to their stored pathnames. You will be asked to
enter the base directory when this option is activated. The base directory
is the directory from which the archive program will be executed.
Recursion use :
When this flag is activated, you will be prompted to enter the directory
and filespecs for recursion. Recursion compresses all files given by the
filespecs in the directory specified and all its subdirectories.
Password use :
When this flag is activated, you will be prompted to enter passwords when
it is appropriate. Usually this is when you are compressing, extracting and
viewing files.
Authenticity use :
This flag is only applicable to .ZIP files. When this flag is activated it
will put authenticity verification on the files you compress. Files marked
for authenticity (by ver 2.04g) will have an '!' next to their name.
* " Directory " and " Archive "
Click on " Directory" and " Archive " or press enter with the appropriate
window activated for the directory and archive selection dialog boxes.
Use the directory selection box to select, make or remove directories.
Use the archive selection box to select or input an archive. Only archives
for which you have the archive programs for can be selected.
The help lines will guide you through the options in this window.
* <V=View/Edit>
This option is used to view the highlighted file. Options for viewing are
on the help screen in the view utility. When you invoke the editor EZCODE
uses the name 'EDIT' by default. To use a name of your choice, use <Alt E>
and enter the new name. This new name is then saved and used from then on.
