  3. This file is not part of emTeX.
  4.  
  5. This is the version of emTeX which was on the uk TeX archive at the
  6. beginning of 1993.  The macro files are fairly up-to-date, but
  7. the programs seem to still be at the TeX 3.0/METAFONT 2.0 levels.
  8. More up-to-date versions of the program are available as embeta*.zip.
  9.  
  10. emTeX is a complete TeX/LaTeX/METAFONT environment for PCs running
  11. MS DOS or OS/2.  I've re-archived all the files using the new version
  12. of pkzip, but they are otherwise taken as-is from the uk TeX archive at
  13. the beginning of 1993.  The driver files are at version 1.4d.  Inside
  14. the emtex*.zip files are the original files from the distribution.  THESE
  15. FILES MUST BE UNZIPPED WITH DIRECTORY STRUCTURE INTACT.  This is the
  16. default for info-unzip, but you must use the -d switch with pkunzip.

  18. The distribution is about 6 megs.  I've tried to indicate the places
  19. where you probably don't need to get a file, but I (plan to) up-load
  20. the whole package for the sake of completeness.

  24. emtex3.zip: input files for LaTeX.  You don't need these if you aren't
  25. planning to use LaTeX.

  36. emtex4.zip: LaTeX format files for big TeX, latex style files in `doc'
  37. format, pictex.  You probably don't need this archive at all, since the
  38. `doc' files don't really provide documentation to the styles, the format
  39. files can be created in significantly less time than it takes to down-load
  40. them, and you probably won't use pictex.

  65. XT).  TeX-specific drawing package.  You probably don't need this,
  66. since big metafont is not needed for normal fonts at normal resoutions,
  67. and texcad is not a particularly good drawing package.

  145. emtex11: `big' version of TeX for OS/2 and DOS.  You need this if you
  146. are processing complicated files, with lots of identifiers and things.
  147. If you have a 386 machine, you're better off getting the 386 version
  148. from the betatest, since it's much faster (it won't run under windows).
