  19.      [white]You are now inside the Maximus multi-line chat.  This section
  20. allows you to interactively "talk" to other users, who are logged onto
  21. other nodes of this BBS.
  22.  
  23.      There are two distinct modes for the multi-line chat: PRIVATE
  24. chat mode, and PUBLIC chat mode.

  31.      [lightgreen]The private chat mode allows you to talk with one specific
  32. user only, without allowing anyone else to enter the conversation.

  34.      [yellow]To initiate a private chat, simply select the `P)age User' option
  35. from the chat menu, and select the task number of the user you wish to
  36. page.  (The task numbers can be seen from the main chat menu.) Maximus
  37. will then place you into chat mode, while you wait for the other user
  38. to respond to your page.  As soon as the other user enters chat mode,
  39. you'll see a "User Name joins the conversation" message appear, and
  40. you'll know that you can now talk to each other.

  42.      [lightcyan]On the other hand, if you find yourself being paged by another
  43. user, and you wish to chat with him/her, you should stop whatever it
  44. is you're doing, and proceed to the CHAT menu.  Once you're there,
  45. simply select the `A)nswer Page' option, and enter the task number of
  46. the node that paged you.  This will immediately put you in chat with
  47. the other node.  Once you're in chat mode, simply type in the text you
  48. wish to send to the other caller, and press return when you're done.
  49. Everything you type will be transmitted a line at a time, and will
  50. appear on the other user's screen shortly after you've typed it.

  58.      [lightgreen]In addition to the private chat mode, there is also a PUBLIC chat
  59. mode.  If you're chatting on one of the public "CB channels", any
  60. number of people can join in on the conversation, which is
  61. functionally similar to a CB radio.

  63.      [yellow]Maximus has 255 "Virtual CB Channels".  Since users of a large
  64. multi-line system may want to hold more than one conversation at once,
  65. Maximus allows one to use more than one CB channel.  CB channels are
  66. completely separate, and hence, you only receive or send to users who
  67. are operating on the same channel.

  69.      [lightcyan]Before you enter a public CB channel, it's a good idea to check
  70. the list of tasks and users, which can be seen from the chat menu, to
  71. see if anyone else is using one of the CB channels.  If so, then
  72. select that channel number through the "CB chat" command.  Once you're
  73. on the CB channel, it's usually good manners to wait for a few
  74. seconds, to get an idea of what the other users are talking about, and
  75. to make sure that you don't interrupt anyone else.

  85.      [white]While you are inside chat mode, whether it be a public or private
  86. chat, there are several operations which are available to you,
  87. in addition to chatting itself.

  89.      To enter one of the special chat commands, simply enter the
  90. command, as the FIRST thing on the line.  In other words, although
  91. typing `/w' at the beginning of the line will work, if you have the
  92. text `/w' in the middle of a sentence, it will be interpreted as
  93. normal text.

  96. [yellow]/w      [white]- Who Is On.  This command displays a list of all callers who
  97.           are in the same conversation you are.  If you're in a private
  98.           chat with another node, then this will display their name.
  99.           If you're on a public CB channel, then this command will
  100.           display a list of users who are participating on the same
  101.           channel.  If nobody else is on the same channel, or if the
  102.           other caller hasn't answered your page, then Maximus
  103.           will indicate that you are alone in this conference.

  105. [yellow]/q      [white]- Quit.  This command will exit chat mode, and return you to
  106.           the chat menu.  Other callers in the same conversation will
  107.           see a "User Name leaves the conversation" message, so that
  108.           they realize that you've left.

  110. [yellow]/?      [white]- Displays this help file.

  112.      [white]In addition to these commands, you can also "talk" to the other
  113. users in the same conference, by simply typing in your message.  The
  114. text will be automatically transmitted to everyone who is on the same
  115. CB channel (or the other user involved in a private chat), and will
  116. appear on their screens.  Here's what an sample chat session might
  117. look like:

  132.      [white]Chat sessions can continue for as long as wanted, or until you
  133. overrun your daily time limit.  Once you're finished your chat, you can
  134. use the `/q' command to exit chat mode, and return to the rest of the
  135. system.

  137.      [white]Finally, one small point about public (or CB) chats: since
  138. text is only transmitted to other users a line at a time, it can be
  139. difficult to determine whether or not someone else has finished typing,
  140. or if they have something else to say.  It's good manners to type
  141. "ga" (Go Ahead) at the end of a paragraph, so that the other users
  142. know that it's their turn.

  177. vil ikke være muligt for andre brugere at bryde ind i snakken.

  180. og vælg derpå nummeret på den bruger, som du vil kalde på. Numrene på
  181. de brugere, som er on-line, kan ses på CHAT/SNAK Menuen. Maximus skifter
  182. dig derpå over i chat mode, mens du venter på, at den anden bruger svarer
  183. på dit kald. Når den kaldte bruger svarer, vil du få besked på, at Maximus
  184. nu har sat jer i forbindelse med hinanden.

  186.      [lightcyan]Hvis det omvendt er dig, der bliver kaldt af en anden bruger, og du
  187. ¢nsker at snakke med vedkommende, skal du stoppe det, du er i gang med.
  188. Derpå skal du bevæge dig over i CHAT/SNAK Menuen, hvor du vælger `Svar på
  189. kald', taste nummeret på den bruger, der har kaldt dig, hvorefter du vil
  190. blive forbundet med vedkommende.
  191.      Når du er i chat mode, beh¢ver du blot at skrive den tekst, som skal
  192. sendes til den anden bruger, tast ENTER, når du er færdig. Alt det, du skriver,
  193. bliver sendt en linje ad gangen, og det vil stå på modtagerens skærm kort tid
  194. efter, du har skrevet det.

  202.      [lightgreen]Ud over den private chat mode er der også en offentlig chat mode. Hvis
  203. du snakker over den åbne `CB kanal', kan alle være med lige som på 0059.

  205.      [yellow]Maximus har mulighed for at holde 255 CB kanaler åbne på samme tid. Da
  206. brugere af store multi-linje BBS'er gerne vil have mulighed for at deltage
  207. i flere konversationer på en gang, tillader Maximus at brugeren snakker på
  208. flere kanaler på samme tid. CB kanalerne er helt adskilte, og man kan derfor
  209. kun sende og modtage fra brugere, der er koblet på den samme kanal.

  211.      [lightcyan]Inden du går ind på en offentlig CB kanal, er det en god ide at tjekke
  212. listen over brugere og deres numre. De findes på CHAT/SNAK Menuen. Så kan du
  213. også få et indtryk af, hvem der er koblet på, og hvilke CB kanaler, der er i
  214. brug. Du vælger kanal på kommandoen `CB Chat'. Når du kommer på CB kanalen er
  215. det en god skik, at man lige holder sig tilbage nogle sekunder for at få et
  216. indtryk af, hvad de andre snakker om, og for at være sikker på, at du ikke
  217. bryder ind midt i en snak.

  227.      [white]Mens du er i chat mode - uanset om det er privat eller offentlig
  228. mode - kan du bruge en række kommandoer ud over dem, der er til rådighed til
  229. chat.

  231.      Hvis du bruger en af dissse kommandoer, skal du blot taste den
  232. som det f¢rste på en linje. Med andre ord - når du taster `/w' i
  233. begyndelsen af en linje bliver det behandlet som en kommando, mens
  234. `/w' inde i en sætning vil blive tolket som helt almindelig tekst.

  238.           der er med i den samtale, som du har koblet dig på. Hvis du er

  241.           kommandoen få Maximus til at give dig en liste over alle de brugere,
  242.           som deltager i snakken. Hvis der ikke er nogen på kanalen, eller
  243.           hvis den bruger, du har kaldt, ikke har besvaret kaldet, vil
  244.           Maximus fortælle dig, at du er alene på kanalen.

  247.           tilbage til CHAT/SNAK menuen. De andre brugere vil få besked på,
  248.           at du har forladt konversationen.

  252.      [white]Ud over disse kommandoer, kan du også snakke med andre brugere i
  253. den samme konversation ved blot at taste din besked. Teksten vil automa-
  254. tisk blive sendt til alle brugerne på CB kanalen eller til andre brugere,
  255. der måtte f¢re en privat samtale. Beskeden bliver vist på deres skærme. Her

  271. tidsgrænse er nået. Når du er færdig med at snakke, kan du bruge `/q'
  272. kommandoen til at Afbryde chat mode og til at komme tilbage til resten
  273. af systemet.

  275.      [white]Til slut et lille godt råd om offenlige (eller CB) snak: Da
  276. teksten sendes til andre brugere en linje ad gangen, kan det være svært at
  277. afg¢re, om en eller anden er blevet færdig med at skrive, eller om vedkommende
  278. har noget mere at sige. Derfor er det en god skik, at man skriver tre
  279. punktumer (...) efter det sidste ord, så de andre brugere kan vide, hvornår
  280. det er deres tur.
