DNA Groove Templates - A Revolution in Sequencing
The Rhythm is the soul, the essense, the thread that binds great
music together. Rhythm is intensely personal, individual, at
least it used to be until the introduction of the Digital Drum
Machine.
The entry of computers on the Music scene during the MIDI
revolution, created a new universal instant rhythm politely
termed Quantize. Rhythm became fixed, constant, common,
mathematically defined by a micro-chip.
The convenience of normal quantizing tends to result in music
that is crystalized into a rhythmic straight jacket. A straight
jacket that chases the individuality out of your creative
sequences.
Despite the advances in sequencer resolution software developers
have provided no convenient ways of taking advantage of the high
resolution. By quantizing to 16th notes, a sequencer's
resolution is dramatically reduced to 4 pulses per quarter.
Absolutely inadequate for communicating most musical ideas.
Throughout our research, we have never encountered a musician
that plays quantized. While there are certain situations when a
musician may want to use quantization, musicians need an option.
With Steinberg's Cubase Sequencer, musicians can now program
their own quantize templates and impose non-linear, user-defined
rhythms on their music.

DNA Groove Templates capture live performances by great musicians
that have great feels. These templates are provided within a
comprehensive environment that allows for powerful rhythmic
processing.
DNA breaks down audio material into it's rhythmic components.
The relationship between noets is captured and translated into a
2 bar Groove template. Groove Templates can then be saved to
disk. This means that you can create a library of feels tha same
way you create a library of sounds for synths and samplers.
The feel is displayed on easy to understand Feel Charts. These
charts can be used to compare the templates on disk and predict
what their sound will be. Feel charts very quickly show the
rhythmic compatibilities between different templates and allow
for very precise and definitive modifications to their feel.
DNA doesn't stop there, it provides Motions that manipulate the
template in hundreds of ways. Each Motion acts on certain points
within the template. Some are meant to simulate Fills and
others, to simulate lags, pushes and shuffles. This allows for
very precise rhythmic placement of every note in your sequence.
The result - your music takes on a distinct feel, with each
instrument having its own subtle variation. Never before has
rhythmic feel been as easy to control on a computer.
DNA provides templates in 10 Beat Divisions. You can therefore
translate the feel to music played with 8th note triplets or 3
against 4, among many other rhythmic signatures.
Best of all, DNA comes with a comprehensive 38 page manual that
makes using the grooves both educational and fun. The
possibilities are endless - within one set, there are thousands
of combinations of different feels. If you want to expand your
music into new dimensions, you cannot afford to be without this
powerful feel processor. Get into the groove.

DNA Def.Grv
All these grooves are based on the same piece of music.
Therefore all these grooves will have coherence and can be used
together. All grooves are 2 bars long. All grooves are based on
a 4/4 time signature. All groove are 16th notes, unless
otherwise specified.
Straight - This is a mostly straight groove. Most notes will
push especially towards the end of each bar.
Push B2&4 - This will push (or make earlier) notes that fall on
the second and fourth beats of each bar. This is great to try on
a snare drum.
Late B2&4 - This is the opposite of the above.
Push P234 - This pushes the second, third and fourth sixteenth
notes within each beat. This can be used to create a rushing
hihat (or any highly syncopated parts).
Late P234 - This is the opposite of the above.
Push B1&3 - This pushes the first and third downbeats of each
bar. This is useful in create a rushing kick drum or downbeat.
Late B1&3 - This is the opposite of the above.
8 Triplet - This creates a non-linear, but very musical eight-
note triplet groove. This is useful for your Jazz and Ballad
sequences.
16 Triplet - This is a non-linear sixteenth note triplet groove.
Great for solos and fast drum fills over triplet signatures.
This works well with the above groove.
SOLO 3a4 - This contains a combination of a 16th note and an 8th
note triplet groove. This is very useful for solos where both
these signatures are played.
Shfl S2&4 - This is a soft shuffle of the second and fourth
sixteenth notes of each beat. This is great for just about any
kind of music fron Dance to Rock to Reggae.
Shfl M2&4 - This is a medium shuffle. A little stronger than the
above.
Shfl H2&4 - This is a heavy shuffle. Even stronger than the
above.
Move All - This creates a significant shift in whole areas of
notes. This is useful for drum fills and solos.
Push Fill - This creates a change in feel where the last bar is
rushed. this is typical of most drum fills.
Late Fill - This is the opposite of the above.
DNA 32nd - This is a one bar template containing non-linear 32nd
notes.
Use Cubase's power to manipulate notes - Key Editor, Iterative
Quantize, Track Shifting etc. and of course your imagination.
