* CAPTOOL
0 CAPTOOL is an integrated investment program which combines portfolio
0 management with stock and bond fundamental and technical evaluation.
0
0 CAPTOOL supports batch processing of and computation of ROI across mul-
0 tiple portfolios. "CAPTOOL Global Investor" supports multi-currency port-
0 folios, performs pooled funds accounting for pensions, trusts, & clubs,
0 provides time savings trade blotter import capability and computes
0 management fees & interest for money managers and financial advisors.
0
0 CAPTOOL uses two types of menu systems to enable the user to manuever
0 through the program. The first is a standard screen menu from which
0 the user makes a selection by keying a character at the ">" prompt.
0 The second type of menu system is an "Alt-Command" menu system. In this
0 system the available commands are displayed on a single line in mnemonic
0 form. The user executes the command by depressing the "Alt" key in
0 combination with the letter key corresponding to the selected command.
0
0 CAPTOOL additionally uses the "Esc", "Arrow", "Page", "Ins", "Del", "Home"
0 and "End" keys plus some "Control-Key" combinations to perform editing
0 and screen manuevering functions.
* General Commands
0 The following commands function much the same throughout the program:
0
0 Esc - Returns to the previous screen or aborts an operation
0 Arws - "Arrow" keys on number keypad move the cursor
0 PgUp - Pages upward (backward) a page of data at a time
0 PgDn - Pages downward (forward) a page of data at a time
0 ^PgUp - ("Ctrl" + "PgUp") Moves to start of data
0 ^PgDn - Moves to end of data
0 Ins - Inserts new record (Ctl+F5 inserts & duplicates)
0 Del - Deletes current record (Ctl+F10 bypasses message)
0 Home - Moves cursor to beginning of field, initiates field edit
0 End - Moves cursor to end of field, initiates field edit
0 ^Y - ("Ctrl"+"Y") Clears field
0 ^G - ("Ctrl"+"G") Deletes next word in field
0 Alt+F - File save, load, & directory function sub-menu.
0 Alt+H - Displays help screen (or "F1" key)
0 Alt+P - Prints out data, "LPT1" is the default output device. If a
0 filename is used, a disk text file is created. If a ".WKS" file
0 extension is used, a Lotus readable ".WKS" file is created.
0 Output to "SCRN" enables output to be viewed on screen.
0
0 Other "Alt" commands vary in function depending upon the active screen.
* DataLink Communications
1 The DataLink module facilitates downloading of security price quote data
1 from various data services. To download quotes, go to Price History,
1 Portfolio Position, or Financial records and execute "Alt+L" to access
1 this module. Then execute the "Alt+A" command after specifying quote date
1 range. The "Alt+S" command permits manual communications with BBS's.
1 DataLink records contain customizable "scripts" which are used to automate
1 log-on and retrieval of price quotes.
1
1 Available DataLink commands operate as follows:
1
1 PgDn/PgUp- Go to next or previous DataLink record.
1 Alt+E - Edit datalink records
1 Alt+S - enter "Smart" terminal mode (automatically dials
1 and logs on, then enters "manual" interactive mode)

1
1 MNP-type Modem Users: Modify the "ATDT" command in the Dial sequence
1 to "AT\N DT" to put in "Normal" mode to get a valid "connect".
1
1 Compuserve-TAPCIS Users: TAPCIS may alter the CIS "!" prompt to "OK", you
1 may have to modify the DLINK script accordingly (replace "!" with "OK").
* Download Spec Records
2
2 Download Specification Records are used to specify to the DataLink module
2 how to request for a particular type of data and to enable it to interpret
2 the data once it is received. The "T" (type) field identifies the type
2 of specification, upon which the contents and interpretation of the
2 "Specification" field depends.
2
2 The first 3 records are of type "*", and in order are used as follows:
2
2 1) Main Service Request - Transmits the request for quote services.
2 2) Sub-Service Request - Transmits request for particular quote
2 service. Subservice request is re-transmitted in order to get
2 a prompt if the previous quote request failed.
2 3) Quote Request - Transmits the security ticker symbol, represented
2 by "<SYM>", or security Cusip # (if applicable), represented by
2 "<CSP>" in a request for a quote.
2
* Download Specs (cont'd)
2
2 The remaining record types ("A" through "Z", and " ") are used to interpret
2 the quotes as they are received. The type field represents the security
2 "type" as defined in the "T" field of the destination record. (recs w/o
2 "type" field are assumed type nul or blank). Brackets "<>" are used to
2 define variables which may be substituted in the quote request. The
2 interpretation of specification components is as follows:
2
2 <KW> - (Key Word) This is a series of characters (bracketed by double
2 quotes) from which the position of the quote is determined. If <KW>=
2 "<SYM>", the position count begins at the start of the following line.
2 The notation "[L+2]" specifies to skip two more lines before
2 starting position count.
2
2 <PFX> - (Prefix) Used as a prefix for retrieving Dow Jones quotes.
*
2 [POS] - Specifies position(s) of quotes to be retrieved. Position is
2 counted in characters starting from end of the response line which
2 contains the "Key Word". Exception: if a delimiter is specified
2 by "( )" then the position count is counted in "words" as separated
2 by delimiters (contiguous spaces are counted as a single delimiter).
2
*
3 Prospect Record Fields (Use "Home"/"End" keys to initiate edit) :
3
3 Prospect - Name & Address (\= separator, < > = salutation)
