Do to the changes to the database format required by the addition of the 1920
Census year, you will need to run the CONV6TO7 conversion program. Please note
that this is only required if your existing data files are from version 6.X of
Census Research Tool. If you are upgrading from a version of Census Research
Tool earlier than version 6.X, you will need to run the CONVTO60 program
first.
IF you are converting from version 6.X to version 7.X, skip to the Converting
to Version 7.X section of this document.
CONVERTING FROM VERSIONS PRIOR TO 6.X
If you are upgrading from a version earlier than 6.0 you will need to copy the
CONVTO60.EXE program, and you data files to a hard disk (if you are running on
floppies). If you are running on a hard disk, just copy the CONVTO60.EXE file
to the same sub-directory as your data files. Then execute the CONVTO60.EXE
program by typing CONVTO60 at the DOS prompt and your data files will be
converted to the new format.
If you are upgrading from a version of Census Research Tool prior to version
5.0 you will have to do the following the first time you run the program:
when the "Select A Data File" screen appears, type in CRT as the filename,
and then type in a descriptive name on the second line. This will allow
you to save your current data. Then when the main selector screen re-
appears all you have to do is press "ENTER" and you will be running with
the new program and your old data file.
CONVERTING TO VERSION 7.0
At this point, your data files should be in version 6.X format. To convert
them to version 7.X format, you must have all your data files in the same
directory on your hard disk. Once this is done, all you need to do is copy
the CONV6TO7.EXE program to this directory. Then type CONV6TO7 and the
program will automatically convert all of your data files to the new format.
Once the conversion is finished, you can delete the conversion program(s).
(CONVTO60.EXE and CONV6TO7.EXE).
The conversion program will set the as entered sequence to the physical
sequence of your old database. If needed, you will be able to change this
as entered sequence using the CRTUTIL program. (Registered users only!)
Then you will need to replace your existing CRT and REPORTS EXE and HLP files
with the new files. Note that you now start the program by typing CENSUS.
This will bring up the menu program which allows you to access all parts of
the Census Research Tool system from one point.
