Enter the data from the census data records as appropiate.
Note that the fields on the screen will be selected for
data entry in the same order as the field on the origional
census forms. (The only exception to this is on the 1880
census form some of the later fields are skipped on the
entry screen. The location of the skipped fields are
marked by the '
' characters seperating the parts of
the screen.)
Pressing 'CTRL'+'R' will allow you to duplicate a field,
(from what was entered in the field on the previous
screen.) This is only applicable down thru the Last Name
field.
Note also that the 'ESC' key will do exactly as the name
implys. Which is to say that if you have started to enter
data in a field, it will return the field to whatever
values it origionally contained. If you have not entered
any data in the field, it will back you up one field (from
the first field on the screen it will return you to the
previous screen). You must still be on the field!!
Enter the desired county name.
If the county name does
not exist in the data base, a selector screen will appear
to allow you to select the county name you desire.

The available reports are as follows:
Print a selected county for a census year.

a summary report for the years 1790 - 1840, only a
detail report is available for these years.

available for this report. (Soundex Search)

Print One County Summary

Print All Names Summary
This a summary report of

!selected Census Year.
NOTE:
All reports are for a selected census year. For the
census years before 1850, the only difference between the
summary report and the detailed report is the presence or
lack of the 'REMARKS' line for the listings.
This screen is used to enter the basic data required to
select the individual(s) you want to get from the
archives.
The name and census year are both required. The census
year is required because it will enable the program to
select the proper form for census data entry.
Pressing 'CTRL'+'R' will duplicate the previous entry
for any field (from the previous screen) allowing you
save keystrokes. This is not applicable to the
'REMARKS' field!
You can use the first letter of the desired action (on
the last line) or use the arrow keys to move the cursor
to the desired action and then press the 'ENTER' key.
You can have your reports sent either directly to your
printer, or to a disk file. If you want to send the
data to a disk file, you will be asked for a file name.
Enter the desired file name (and extension if desired).
The filename must be no longer that 8 characters, and the
extension must not be longer than 3 characters. The
extensions of DAT and MEM are reserved for program use
and will not be allowed.
Press "ESC" to Exit this Help Screen
Enter the desired census date here. Only
valid census years will be allowed.
If you have selected a summary report,
only the census years of 1850 to 1920
will be allowed.
Enter the drive and path to where you data files
will be located. In the case of a floppy disk
system it will normally be the "B:\". Note that
the \ is required. For a hard disk system it
might be "C:\CENSUS\".
The other required information is the state for
which you will normally be entering data.
If your state is listed, this means that it uses a special
form for the 1790 Census year. Select your state using
the arrow keys and press the "ENTER" key. If your state
is not listed, select "OTHER" to use the standard Federal
form.
Enter the state you are going to enter data for. This is
required because all states did not use the same form for
this census year.
When selecting records to print, you must select the
desired census year. Only valid census years will be
accepted. (some reports will allow fewer census years).
