ComputerEyes/RT ReadMe
======================
This ReadMe file contains information about your ComputerEyes/RT
system that became available after the Owner's Manual went to
press. Any improvements, enhancements, and bug fixes that have
been added since that time are outlined in the paragraphs below.
===================================================================
Installation Procedure
======================
The ComputerEyes/RT System Software on this disk is in a packed
format to conserve disk space. To install the software on your
hard disk, first make sure that the current drive is set to the
one that contains this file by typing "A:" or "B:" followed by
the [Enter] key. Then type "INSTALL" followed by [Enter] and
follow the simple instructions.
There are four versions of the ComputerEyes/RT System Software
included on this disk that support various VGA display
capabilities. These are briefly described on the screen, and
you can elect to install any combination of them that fits your
requirements. Refer to your Owner's Manual for further
information.

PAL Version
===========
If you have purchased the North American standard NTSC version of
ComputerEyes/RT, please ignore this section.
All versions of the ComputerEyes/RT System Software starting with
Version 1.10 support the European PAL version of ComputerEyes/RT.
The following paragraphs document characteristics of the PAL
version not covered in the Owner's Manual. If you have purchased
the PAL version, please read this section carefully.
The Owner's Manual states that there is no software-controlled
Hue adjustment available for the PAL version. While it is true
that this is a characteristic of the PAL video signal, Digital
Vision engineers have devised a method to provide you with a Hue
control nonetheless. The Hue control IS available for both
versions of ComputerEyes/RT, and is a useful tool for fine-tuning
the color content of your images.
Part Nine of the Owner's Manual discusses Adjustments. In the
PAL version there is no Horizontal Centering adjustment, since
the timing of the PAL video signal is less critical than that of
the NTSC signal, and a Horizontal Centering adjustment is not
required.
There is, however, one adjustment potentiometer on the PAL RT
board. PAL video signals flip the phase of the color information
every other scan line (PAL stands for Phase Alternating Line).
It is up to the PAL decoder (such as ComputerEyes) to reverse
this effect. In a television receiver, the quality of this
reversal is not very important, since the image is continuously
moving. However, since ComputerEyes/RT grabs a single frame and
displays it, the reversal becomes important.
The trimmer adjustment on the PAL ComputerEyes/RT board is set at
the factory calibrated to a PAL test signal and will probably
never need to be adjusted. However, if you notice more than a
slight amount of horizontal stripes in your images (a very slight
amount is unavoidable with PAL), you may wish to adjust the phase
setting. The control is located along the top edge of the board.
Refer to Part Nine for a general discussion on the technique of
making an adjustment. Alternately make slight adjustments to the
trimmer control and capture images until the horizontal stripes
are minimized.
Hint: When capturing Black-and-White images, first set the
Saturation control to 0 while still in a color Display Style.
This causes the ComputerEyes hardware to remove as much of the
color information as possible from the video signal, minimizing
the effect of PAL phase. Minor drawback: you can't convert such
images back to color afterwards.

Revision History:
=================
Release 1.00 (5/30/91) - Original
---------------------------------
Release 1.01 (7/17/91)
----------------------
TGA file saving/loading modified.
Release 1.02 (8/19/91)
----------------------
Changed the "Setup" Menu such that "ComputerEyes I/O Address" is
always enabled. This is to accommodate devices such as the Sound
Blaster (see "Installation" Section of Owner's Manual) that are
installed AFTER ComputerEyes/RT is installed. Users can now
ALWAYS change the ComputerEyes I/O Address, not just in the case
when EYES can't find the board at the current address. You
should never change the ComputerEyes I/O Address in EYES unless
you actually change the corresponding DIP switches on the
ComputerEyes/RT circuit board.
Added support for Super VGA boards using the Oak Technology
OTI-067 VGA chip in the 640x480 256-color Graphics Mode 83.
Added "CineMaker" animated image capture support.
Release 1.03 (10/23/91)
-----------------------
Added support for Super VGA boards using the Tseng Labs TL4000
VGA chip in the 640x400 256-color Graphics Mode 47 (in addition
to 640x480 Mode 46).
Incorporated a subtle refinement to the interpolation routine
used to paint the screen in 320x200 Mode 19 that should minimize
faint vertical stripes that may be seen in large areas of the
same intensity. (Hint: If you see horizontal stripes in 320x200
mode, try setting "Field/Frame Display" under "Options" to
"Single Field".)
Release 1.04 (11/8/91)
----------------------
Changed the "Paradise VGA Plus/Pro" Graphics Adapter selection in
the Setup Menu to "Paradise/Acumos Super VGA". The Acumos AVGA2
Graphics Adapter is compatible with the Paradise 640x480 256-
color Graphics Mode; however, it does not provide for a 640x400
256-color Graphics Mode.
Added HiColor image capture support.
Added mouse support for the user interface.
Added the Software Version Number to the Menu Bar at the top of
the screen as a convenience.
Release 1.10 (2/3/92)
----------------------
Added support for the European PAL version of ComputerEyes/RT.
Release 1.11 (2/26/92)
----------------------
Added an improvement to the interpolation routine used to paint
640x480 and 640x400 256-color images, such that the accuracy is
improved and a slight vertical striping that occasionally would
be visible is eliminated.
Corrected a problem in the HiColor and CineMaker versions that
sometimes wouldn't allow a new file name to be entered properly
after another file was loaded.
===================================================================
We hope that this version of the ComputerEyes/RT system software
allows you to get the most out of your ComputerEyes system.
Thank you for purchasing ComputerEyes. We trust that it will
provide you with many years of outstanding service.
