  13. Installing Windows 3.0

  16. Run SETUP from DOS and scroll up to "Display" using the arrow keys and 
  17. [Enter].  Scroll down to "Other (Required disk provided by hardware 
  18. manufacturer)" and [Enter].  Insert the Cirrus Logic GD54xx Windows 
  19. Drivers Disk in A: or B: and type WIN30 in the box where Windows prompts
  20. to enter the hardware manufacturer display device driver.  For example,
  21. type the following:

  23.     A:\WIN30

  25. You will then be presented with the following:
  26.  
  27.     Cirrus 54xx v1.0, Multi-res 16 colors
  28.     Cirrus 54xx v1.0, Multi-res 256 colors
  29.  
  30. Select any of the above and press [ENTER].
  31. When Windows SETUP asks you to insert the
  32. "Cirrus Logic GD54xx Windows 3.x Fonts Diskette", enter the same disk drive
  33. as you did above, be instead reference the SYSTEM directory. For example,
  34. type the following:

  36.     A:\SYSTEM
  37.  
  38. Later you will be asked to insert the
  39. "Cirrus Logic GD54xx Windows 3.0 Driver Diskette",  This time use
  40. the WIN30 directory.  For example, type the following:
  41.  
  42.     A:\WIN30

  45. SETUP will complete the installation.  
  46.  
  47. The GD54xx Multi-Resolution color drivers will require that a section
  48. in your SYSTEM.INI.  The Windows 3.0 SETUP program must be used to
  49. select the default configuration of the 16 or 256 color drivers.  You
  50. will find that it is easiest to use the SetRES utility to configure
  51. resolutions and color selections.  Run the INSTALL utility on the
  52. Windows distribution disk to copy the drivers and the SetRES utility to
  53. your hard drive.  Then run SetRes from within Windows to configure your
  54. instalation.

  56. Manually Editing the SYSTEM.INI File
  57. After exiting the SETUP program, edit the SYSTEM.INI file to change the
  58. resolution manually.  Any text editor may be used, including EDLIN, or
  59. EDIT that came with your version of DOS, or Notepad found in the
  60. accessories group of your Windows 3.0 installation.  Find the section
  61. [CLVGA].  The [CLVGA] section will not exist when you first setup
  62. Windows 3.0.  You must add one to the end of the SYSTEM.INI file.  Type
  63. in one of the sections below:
