  9.           BUSINESS PLAN MASTER will:

  11.         *   Help you create a highly professional business plan.
  12.     
  13.         *   Save you many hours (even days!) of work.
  14.     
  15.         *   Let you compare your business with others in your
  16.             industry.

  18.         *   Give you buckets of money, Shangri-La, a Rolls-Royce in
  19.             your driveway, the perfect spouse, wonderful children,
  20.             world peace and intergalactic harmony.  (just kidding!)

  22.     Requirements
  23.     ------------
  24.     
  25.         Any PC or compatible with a word processing or page layout
  26.     program and a spreadsheet program.  These files are designed for
  27.     use by those with a basic (not advanced) knowledge of word
  28.     processing and spreadsheets.
  29.     
  30.         The text files are in Microsoft Works 2.0 (*.WPS).  The
  31.     spreadsheet files are in Microsoft Works v2.0 (*.WKS).  Any
  32.     later versions and also many other competitive programs such as
  33.     WordStar, Word, or Quattro Pro should be able to import these
  34.     files.
  35.     
  36.         I am partial to laser printers, but it is not a requirement
  37.     UNLESS you are planning to present this plan to venture
  38.     capitalists or other sophisticated investors.
  39.     
  40.         A version for WordPerfect 5.1 and Lotus 1-2-3 is also
  41.     available.  It should be titled BIZPLNXX.ZIP.
  42.         
  43.         A Macintosh version is also available.  It is located on
  44.     CompuServe, Ziffnet, GEnie, Delphi, America OnLine, BMUG, and
  45.     BCS-Mac, as well as several shareware vendors.

  48.     Purpose:
  49.     
  50.         Every business needs to have a plan in order to track its
  51.     progress.  There is no business too small, too large, too
  52.     complex or too simple to avoid having a business plan.  I found
  53.     that many businessmen assume that the usefulness of their
  54.     business plan is over once the business is up and running.  I
  55.     have been successful using a business plan not only to start a
  56.     business, but as an important management tool in an ongoing
  57.     business.
  58.     
  59.         This program is designed for use by any size (small, medium
  60.     or large) or type (product or service) of business.  It also
  61.     includes all the necessary information which most lenders or
  62.     investors are seeking.
  63.     
  64.         I didn't write this program in an ivory tower some place,
  65.     but out of my own business experience.  For seven years, I
  66.     imported cuckoo clocks from the Black Forest of Germany, so this
  67.     is definetly a "cuckoo" program!  I am involved in many other
  68.     business ventures.  I'd be lying if I said I made money with all
  69.     of them.  But I can truthfully say that all were successful,
  70.     mainly because I followed a plan and stuck to it.
  71.     
  72.         BUSINESS PLAN MASTER supplies you with complete template
  73.     files.  I give you professional formats (footnootes, tables of
  74.     contents,some simple graphics), some excellent sample text and
  75.     several spreadsheet files for you to use.  Alone these could
  76.     save you many hundreds of hours of work.  Because of the wide
  77.     diversity of businesses and business ideas, I have tried to make
  78.     these files as universal as possible.  Over time, you will
  79.     likely incorporate your own language into the text and make
  80.     modifications to the worksheets.

  82.         Please make copies of these files in case you trash one.  It
  83.     happens to all of us!

  88.     QUICK START
  89.     -----------

  91.         If you want to get started quickly, just read these few
  92.     lines:
  93.     
  94.        FIRST, take a look at what is here.  The installation
  95.     program put the files into a directory on your hard drive called
  96.     "BIZPLAN".  In this directory you will find the USERS.GDE and
  97.     several other general files.  It also created two
  98.     subdirectories, WORKS and ASCII.  The template files have been
  99.     place in the appropriate subdirectory.
  100.      
  101.         Open the spreadsheets in your spreadsheet program.  The best
  102.     file to look at first is BPMPROF.WKS (Proforma Financial
  103.     Statements).  I highly recommend that you do your spreadsheet
  104.     work first.  Make sure your business idea is going to be
  105.     financially worthwhile before trying to write the text portion.
  106.     
  107.         Get into your word processing program.
  108.     
  109.         Open the BUSINESS PLAN MASTER file, BIZPLN21.WPS.  This is
  110.     the main BUSINESS PLAN MASTER file which will contain the text
  111.     you will use.
  112.     
  113.         To access the BIZPLN21.WPS file from MS Works, use "File
  114.     Open" and then look for it in the directory you placed it in.
  115.     
  116.         If you are now hopelessly lost, take a look at the User's
  117.     Guide.  It is an ASCII text file which means it can be used by
  118.     any word processing program.  You can also read it at the DOS
  119.     prompt by typing "TYPE USERS.GDE |MORE" .  By registering at the
  120.     *PROFESSIONAL* level, I send you a printed User's Guide along
  121.     with other valuable items.

  130.     can be opened with higher versions.  Most other spreadsheet

  203.         Shareware describes a method of distributing copyrighted
  204.     software in which a user is allowed to fully evaluate the
  205.     software before purchasing it.  After an evaluation period, the
  206.     user is required to register the product if he decides to keep
  207.     using it.

  209.         Shareware distribution addresses all of the legitimate
  210.     complaints that users have with commercial software
  211.     distribution.

  213.       o Shareware allows a user to fully evaluate a product, free of
  214.         charge, in his or her home or business, *before* deciding to
  215.         buy it.

  217.       o Shareware programs can circulate freely on Bulletin Boards,
  218.         through Shareware disk distributors, or through user groups.

  220.       o Because Shareware distribution reduces the need to
  221.         advertise, Shareware is less expensive than commercial
  222.         software.

  224.       o Shareware authors can often be more responsive to users'
  225.         requests for help or bug fixes than large software
  226.         companies.

  228.       o Shareware software, needless to say, is never
  229.         copy-protected.

  232.         In short, Shareware is a user's dream come true.  Users show
  233.     their appreciation to developers for this extremely flexible
  234.     distribution scheme by registering their software.  Without user
  235.     registrations Shareware software would gradually disappear.  It
  236.     is not sufficient to simply let the "other guy" pay the
  237.     registration.  You are the other guy's "other guy".

  243.         Shareware is not "free" software.  Shareware is not Public
  244.     Domain software.  The fee that you may have paid to receive a
  245.     Shareware program does not mean that the software has been paid
  246.     for.  This money was paid to a Shareware disk vendor, User
  247.     Group, Bulletin Board Service or retailer to cover their cost of
  248.     getting the program to you.  Shareware software is paid for by
  249.     registering your copy with the author.

  258.         BUSINESS PLAN MASTER has been under development for over
  259.     four years.  During that period it has been in constant use by
  260.     its author.  BUSINESS PLAN MASTER was originally developed for
  261.     the IBM PC.  It was later developed to run on Apple Macintosh
  262.     computers.  The development now is done concurrently - wherever
  263.     I feel like working on a particular day!

  268.     service businesses, changes in User's Guide to make it clearer,

  294.         BUSINESS PLAN MASTER is a dynamic program.  BUSINESS PLAN
  295.     MASTER has changed considerably since its conception, and it has
  296.     been further enhanced since its Shareware release.  I originally
  297.     wrote BUSINESS PLAN MASTER for an import venture with Germany
  298.     and that well-known German perfectionism has rubbed off on me!
