Subject: G&L experience
I wanted to share my experience with a G&L L-2000, its neck, and Leo
Fender indirectly. I got it from Rhythm City in Atlanta about 9 years ago
after trying one out and loving it. The only negatives for me were the
weight (I sat down whenever possible) and some temperature sensitivity. I
also didn't much know what to ask for in the way of setup when I first got
it, so over time I wanted to change the setup and decided to do it myself.
I knew what to do in principle, and there was a little how-to brochure
that came from the factory, so I got started. I had trouble turning the
truss rod, and the small turns I was able to make didn't seem to be making
any measurable changes. I kept trying and as I was laying on it at one,
point the truss rod gave way and snapped inside somehow. Talk about sinking
feelings.
I called G&L and all the service manager would do is quote me the price
for a new neck. He had decided it was my fault. I didn't have much extra
money at the time, so I made a plea via letter to Leo Fender himself. I
explained that I had followed the procedures in the enclosed brochure and
that there were no caveats or warnings. I told him either there was a
manufacturing flaw to begin with, or at the very least his brochure should
do a better job of covering the subject.
About a week later I got a call from the service manager asking me to
ship the bass to them COD, and informing me that they would ship it back
with a new neck. It has worked well since then and the temperature
sensitivity has no longer been a problem. Now that the old master is
passed away I can't speak for G&L, but at that time I was impressed with
their integrity.

I'm considering ordering a bass through them. Has anyone had any
experience dealing with them? I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.

Subject: News?
Is there a bass newsgroup? I think there's a rec.arts.music.guitar,
but is there a bass one? Also, since my Internet access is
sporadic and limited can it be relayed into email?? I do this with
soc.culture.esperanto and it's be nice to do it for bass.
[ There's a few newsgroups for bass. Off the top of my dusty brain, there
is alt.guitar.bass and rec.music.makers.bass. Any others? bass-mgr ]
Secondly...
Please Please Please,
If you are posting please sign off with your Inet address, My mail
access is really strange. I can't just hit REPLY, I have to retype
the TO: address. My feed is the Cincinnati Computer Connection BBS
which is a PCBoard BBS with 4 daily mail runs to Univ. of Cincy
Engineering. He has a package which takes Internet Mail and Stuffs
each newsgroup into a PCBoard Forum, the Top line of my text has to
be TO:J.PASTORIUS@HEAVEN.GOD or some such. The actual TO field of
the PCBoard message is ignored.
Several People have private Emailed me from here and did not
sign off with a return addx and I had no way of responding. So dont
think I'm ignoring you if I dont reply.

I have told musicians I work with about this group and have
been asked if similar groups exist for other instruments (such
as guitar, drums, horns). (I thought we talked about equipment
a lot but just get two trumpet players together - they can discuss
the fine points of mouthpieces for hours!) If any of you know of
such groups, please let me know. Thanks.
