  7. It's been seven months since the last BGTOP release.  This version
  8. adds a small speed increase, as it is now using a 100 user record
  9. buffer instead of the 25 record buffer used in BGTOP 2.1.  Also,
  10. the number of maximum users BGTOP supports has been increased from
  11. 2500 to 4096.  New memory routines are used to see if they work well
  12. enough to be used in the next version of BGQWK.  Background colors
  13. are now supported for those who use them.  Something new has been
  14. added to the display.  A "total box" will now appear.  To suppress
  15. the "total box", i.e., to make it appear similar to BGTOP 2.1 and
  16. below, use the new "/NT" parameter.

  20. Another  long  period of time  before this release--twelve months.
  21. I have updated the program to be more  LAN  friendly.  It will now
  22. read multiple records from the USER.CTL file at once and store  it
  23. in a buffer  rather  than  reading records  one  at  a time.  This
  24. increases performance on non-LAN systems by about 20%  and  on LAN
  25. systems, performance is  several  times  faster.   The program has
  26. also been recompiled under Borland's Turbo Pascal 6.0.

  30. Oh my goodness--fifteen months since the release of BGTOP 1.9.   I
  31. have included some new  goodies  for you guys.   Many features are
  32. explained in the document.  The  'door' mode has been reworked and
  33. the maximum number of users BGTOP supports has been increased from
  34. 1800 to 2500.  Hopefully this helps.  I can't push it any more!

  38. It's been over five months since the last release of  BGTOP.   The
  39. reason is because I lost the  source code  and had to rebuild this
  40. version from scratch.   I  have tried  to make it identical to the
  41. other version, but it is still prone to errors.

  43. GT 15.50 systems can now run  BGTOP  without the /FC parameter.  I
  44. fixed the color locate error.  As a result, the  /FC  parmeter has
  45. been removed.

  47. The maximum number of users BGTOP supports has been increased from
  48. 1500 to 1800 for you higher capacity systems.

  52. This is just a minor bug fix release.   Stephen Deplatter informed
  53. me that  BGTOP  was  not  registering  names  of  people  that had
  54. uploaded or downloaded more than 32 megabytes.  BGTOP now supports
  55. up to a full 64 megabytes!  (They must do alot of file tranfers in
  56. OZ, eh?)

  60. Someone requested that  I allow  BGTOP  to be run as a logon door,
  61. and  not have  to  make  a  bulletin  everytime.   BGTOP  now uses
  62. special direct screen writes (by Marshall Brain) for the "passing"
  63. mode and then  writes to  the  console  when it prints the report.
  64. To invoke this mode,  simply saye  "BGTOP DOOR [parameters]",  and
  65. it will work fine with  GATEWAY.   You can also redirect output to
  66. a  different  device by  "BGTOP DOOR [parameters] > DEVICE"  where
  67. DEVICE  can be  "COM1",  "C:\GT\TOPUSER.CBS",  etc.  Note that you
  68. will still see the "passing" screen,  however,  the user will only
  69. see the "bulletin".

  73. There have been both minor and major changes in the way that BGTOP
  74. handles things.   Hopefully none of the changes will cause you any
  75. trouble, as it seems to work fine over here now.
  76.  
  77. In order for me to find the bugs, I need a complete description of
  78. what the problem is.  I may request a copy of your USER.CTL and/or
  79. GT.CNF.

  81. There is a new command  '/FC'  which will force BGTOP to use a set
  82. of hard coded colors  if it cannot read the  GT.CNF  properly,  or
  83. you  wish to use the  set yourselves.   BGTOP  will inform  you to
  84. use the /NF parameter when necessary.

  86. Please leave me a  netmail message to  001/040  telling me of your
  87. successes or failures with BGTOP 1.6.

  89. Finally,  special thanks  go to  Bob Camp.   He  gave me  a little
  90. lesson on Turbo Pascal structure and directives and actually fixed
  91. some of the coding in version 1.6.  Thanks Bob!
