BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO
NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THE AGREEMENT, PROMPTLY
RETURN THE DISKS AND THE ACCOMPANYING ITEMS TO
DEVONT SOFTWARE FOR A FULL REFUND.
1. Grant of License: Devont Software grants you the right to use
one (1) copy of the enclosed software product ("ASAP!") on a
single file server (i.e. a single personal computer acting as a
network server). If you wish to place ASAP! on more than one
(1) file server, you must purchase additional copies of ASAP!
2. Copyright: ASAP! is owned by Devont Software and is protected
by United States copyright laws and international treaty provisions.
Therefore, you must treat ASAP! like any other copyrighted
material (e.g. a book or musical recording) except that you may
(a) make copies of ASAP! solely for backup or archival purposes,
and (b) transfer ASAP! to hard disk provided that ASAP! resides
on one (1) file server at a time.
3. Written Materials: You may copy and distribute the
accompanying User's Guide documentation for each workstation
that is connected to the file server which is licensed to contain
ASAP!.
4. Other Restrictions: You may not rent or lease ASAP! without
written consent of Devont Software. You may transfer ASAP! and
accompanying materials on a permanent basis provided you retain
no copies of ASAP! and the recipient agrees to the terms of this
agreement.
5. Dual Media Software: If this package contains both 3.5" and
5.25" disks, then you may use only the disks appropriate for your
single file server. You may not loan, rent, lease or transfer the

provided above) of ASAP! and written materials.
Limited Warranty
Limited Warranty: Devont Software warrants that (a) ASAP!
will perform substantially in accordance with the accompanying
written materials for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of
receipt. Any implied warranties on ASAP! are limited to ninety
(90) days. Some states do not allow limitations on duration of an
implied warranty, so the above limitation may not apply to you.
Customer Remedies: Devont Software's entire liability and your
exclusive remedy shall be, at Devont Software's option, either (a)
return of the price paid or (b) repair or replacement of ASAP! that
does not meet Devont Software's Limited Warranty and which is
returned to Devont Software with a copy of your receipt. This
Limited Warranty is void if failure of ASAP! has resulted from
accident, abuse, or misapplication. Any replacement for ASAP!
will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period
or thirty (30) days, whichever is longer.
No Other Warranties: DEVONT SOFTWARE DISCLAIMS
ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESSED OR
IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED
WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR
A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, WITH RESPECT TO ASAP!, THE
WRITTEN MATERIALS, OR ANY OTHER ACCOMPANYING
MATERIALS. THIS LIMITED WARRANTY GIVES YOU
SPECIFIC LEGAL RIGHTS, YOU MAY HAVE OTHERS
WHICH VARY FROM STATE TO STATE.
NO LIABILITIES FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES: IN
NO EVENT SHALL DEVONT SOFTWARE BE LIABLE FOR
ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING, WITHOUT
LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF BUSINESS
PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF BUSINESS
INFORMATION, OR OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS) ARISING
OUT OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THIS
DEVONT SOFTWARE PRODUCT, EVEN IF DEVONT
SOFTWARE HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF
SUCH DAMAGES. BECAUSE SOME STATES DO NOT
ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
FOR CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, THE
ABOVE LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.Requirements
ASAP! requires an IBM PC/XT, AT, PS/2 or compatible computer with
640K RAM or more. Although ASAP! will run on an XT-class system,
a 286 or better is recommended. Monochrome, Hercules, CGA, EGA,
VGA and Super VGA video modes have been tested and supported.
Networking software is also required. Novell Netware 286 version 2.1+
and Netware 386 has been tested and supported.
Each workstation's CONFIG.SYS file should contain at least the following
information:
FILES=20
BUFFERS=20
After loading the network shells, you should have at least 480K RAM free
in order to run the program.
If you are planning on running ASAP! as a TSR (or resident program)
workstations should have at least 2 Megabytes total system memory, and
an extended memory (such as HIMEM.SYS) or expanded memory (such
as EMM386 or QEMM) memory manager should be installed.
ASAP! will operate as a TSR on workstations with less available memory,
but response times will not be satisfactory when run on machines with no
available extended or expanded memory.Installation
To install ASAP! on your network, follow the steps below:
1. Create a directory for the data. ASAP! is flexible, in that you
may choose any volume in which to store the data. For example,
if you want to install the data files on SYS1:, type the following:
map m:=server/sys1:
m:
md\asap!
cd\asap!
copy a:*.*
2. FLAG the files appropriately. You should mark all files as SRW
(Shareable Read-Write).
For example: FLAG *.* SRW
3. Run the ADMIN.EXE program. You must be a SUPERVISOR
or equivalent to run the ADMIN program.
4. ADMIN will check for the existance of several data files. If they
are not found, a new installation is assumed. You are prompted
with a Yes/No confirmation box to install on your current server.
Select "Yes" to accept the specified server name, or select "No"
to change the server name. You should accept the default server
name in most instances.
When the program has completed creating the necessary data files,
you are placed at ADMIN's main menu screen, with "Maintain
User/Group" list highlighted.
5. Now that you have created the master user/group data file,
we can choose to remove or exclude certain users from the
list. For instance, if you have user accounts that should
not have a desktop, you should "Exclude" the user from
the list. Excluded users do not get a desktop, and other
users cannot send information to them.
You can also delete user accounts from the user/group data
file, but we recommend that you exclude the users instead.
Each time you re-import the user/group network
information, ADMIN checks to see if the user exists. If it
does not, it creates a new entry for the user or group
account. If a user or group is excluded, it will not be
recreated. If it is deleted from the list, it will be recreated
on import and you will have to manually delete it again.
From the ADMIN main menu, select "Maintain
User/Group List" again, then choose "Edit User/Group
List" from the displayed submenu.
For each of the users you wish to Exclude from the list,
press the <Alt>+<X> keys. A pop-up confirmation
box displays confirming your intention. If you want this
account excluded from the list, select "Yes." Otherwise,
select "No" at this prompt. If you make a mistake and
want to include an excluded user, press the
<Alt>+<X> key again on the user or group and you
are prompted to include the account.
Return to the ADMIN main menu when you have excluded
all the users and/or group you need by pressing the
<Esc> key.
6. Create a batch file for the users to access the program. You can
be as creative as you like, but keep in mind that the user MUST
be placed in the directory created in the first step in order to
access his desktop. For example, if you elected to store your
ASAP! data in SYS1:, create a .BAT file similar to the following:
@echo off
cls
map m:=sys1:asap!
m:
ASAP!
(add any commands needed to return the user to the menu)
The .BAT file you create should be placed in a common directory,
such as SYS:PUBLIC (usually defined as Z:) so all users can run
it.
7. Assign Trustee assignments to the directory in which the user data
files are to exist. Users must have ALL RIGHTS, except
Supervisor and Access Control (Or Parental, for Netware 2.15).
8. You are now ready to run the main ASAP! program
(ASAP!.EXE). See the User's Guide for TSR setup information.
You will need to refer to the remainder of this manual for regular
maintenance information.Flagging User Directories
For Netware 386 users, the user directories created during the installation
procedure should be flagged PURGE. This will decrease the amount to
server resources required to track all of the deleted files. To flag all the
user directories, perform the following (you must be a SUPERVISOR or
equivalent!)
cd sys1:ASAP!
FLAGDIR *.* PURGE (you could also add HIDDEN here)
Netware 286 users can elect to flag the user directories as HIDDEN if
desired. Perform the following steps if you want to flag the user
directories as Hidden:
cd sys1:ASAP!
FLAGDIR *.* HIDDEN
Note that a user directory is created when the user has actually accessed
the program, or another user has sent him information. You should wait
until most of your users access the program before performing this
function, else there will be no directories to flag.Rebuilding Desktops
When users delete information from their system, ASAP! removes the
message record, but leaves the message text in the data files. This is done
purely for performance reasons. System Administrators need to Rebuild
the user desktops at regular intervals. We recommend, for an average
network that this procedure be run at least once a month.
1. Change to the ASAP! Data directory. If you elected to store the
data files in SYS1:\ASAP!, type:
map m:=sys1:ASAP!
m:
ADMIN
2. Select "Rebuild Desktops." An informative message displays, then
you are prompted with a "yes/no" box. After you have read the
message, select "yes" to perform the procedure. As the message
indicates, this procedure should only be run after hours. This
procedure will recover disk space taken by the excess data left
over from deleted messages.
The Rebuild procedure should be run when no users are
accessing their desktops. If users are accessing the system
while this procedure is running, their desktop will be
skipped and no Rebuild preformed.Automatic and Single Packing
If you prefer to pack Desktops in the middle of the night when everyone
is off the system, you can tell ADMIN to perform this operation at a
specific time, such as 2 o'clock in the morning. For example, the
following command tells ADMIN to pack all Desktops at 2am:
ADMIN /p 02:00
The program will then go into "Auto" mode, waiting until 2am to perform
the procedure. The TIME parameter is in 24 Hour military time.
You can also rebuild one user's desktop at a time from the command line.
To use this feature, type the following while in the ASAP! data directory:
ADMIN /p UserID
Where UserID is a valid user of the network. If the user does not have
any data files, nothing will be performed. The ACTIVITY.LOG file will
be updated to reflect the rebuild procedure.Editing Local User Defaults
You can change local user's configuration defaults such as their Hot Key
preference, printer margins, desktop password, etc. To edit a local user's
account definition, perform the following steps:
1. Enter the drive/directory in which the ASAP! data/program files
exists.
2. Run the ADMIN program.
3. Select "Maintain User/Group List" then choose "Edit User List"
from the displayed submenu. The User/Group list displays.
4. Using the arrow keys, move the highlight bar to a local user, then
press the <Enter> key. If the selected user is a locally defined
user account, the user's configuration file displays, and you can
change any of the displayed entries by filling in the blanks.
For a detailed description of each of the user's configuration
parameters, please see the "Preferences" section in the User's
Guide.
There are a few parameters that a user cannot change himself,
including the "Allow Firm Address Edits" and "Allow File
Manager" options. The first allows you to restrict a user's ability
to edit the Firm Address Book, and the second restricts the
availability of the File Manager program.Hints and Tips
ADMIN's Activity Log
All Desktop Rebuilding and other ADMIN activity is written to the
activity log file (ACTIVITY.LOG is stored in the ASAP! directory). If
this file exists, selecting this menu item will display the contents in a
scrollable window.
You can use this report to find out if any problems occurred during the
automatic packing routines.
Telephone Activity Reporting
When a user sends a telephone message, it is sent to the appropriate user's
Telephone InBox, and is also logged to the telephone activity log file,
located in the ASAP! program directory. This feature allows you to print,
view, and delete telephone activity. If you would like to totally remove
the log, you can delete PHONELOG.* from the ASAP! directory.
LOGOUT.MSG File
If a file called LOGOUT.MSG exists in the ASAP! program/data
directory, the contents of this file are displayed upon selection of the
"LOG OFF NETWORK" option. You can use this file to display a
custom message to the user upon logout. This file is limited to 50
characters. For instance, you could have a file called LOGOUT.MSG
that contains:
Thank You for Using the Network System!Special Group Membership
If you have users that need to access the master telephone log file, you
can create a network group (in SYSCON) called "EESUPER" then add
these users to that group.
Users which are members of this group get an additional menu item on
their main menu called "Telephone Log" which allows them to view and
print all the telephone activity. In addition, you can enable this option on
a user-by-user basis using the ADMIN utility's Maintain/Edit function.
This is useful for receptionists or other users which take a lot of telephone
calls. For instance, if you call in and want the receptionist to check all
your telephone messages yet you do not want to give her your dekstop
password, she could access this menu item and list all telephone messages
that have been received for you.Removing User Accounts
If you remove a user account with the SYSCON utility, you should
remove the old user's data directory in order to recover used disk space
taken by the user's data files. To remove a user's directory, perform the
following steps:
1. Enter the drive/directory that contains the ASAP! program and
data files.
2. Run the ADMIN program. The ADMIN main menu displays.
3. Select "Maintain User/Group List" then choose "Edit
User/Group List" from the displayed submenu. The User/Group
database displays.
4. Using the arrow keys, move the highlight bar to the user account
you wish to remove. Press the <Del> key. A pop-up submenu
displays with two choices: "Userlist Entry Only" and "Desktop
and Userlist." As implied, selecting "Userlist Entry Only" from
this submenu only removes the user's name from the database.
Selecting "Desktop and Userlist" removes both the Desktop and
the user's name from the database. Renaming User Accounts
If you rename a USER ID with the Syscon utility, you do not need to
rename the User Desktop directory. Netware keeps the same Object ID
Number no matter what you rename this account to.
However, you need to create a new entry in the userlist data file for the
new user name. To do so, simply follow the steps involved for creating
a new user. The existing Desktop information will not be affected by this
procedure.Recovering From Problems
Under normal circumstances, ASAP! should recover automatically from
any critical errors when reintializing the program. However, there may
be instances where a data file becomes corrupted. In order to recover
from this situation, you need to Rebuild the user's data files. Rebuilding
not only removes deleted records from a data file, but also help clean up
and restore the data files to their original format. Please see the section
entitled "Rebuilding Desktops" for more information on rebuilding
desktops.
If a user is experiencing difficulties with the program in any way, your
first remedy should be to Rebuild this user's Desktop (use ADMIN /p
USERID). If this procedure does not solve the problem, please contact
Technical Support.Error Messages
Error Loading ASAP! Resident
The most common reason for this error message is the SWAP PATH
parameter specified on the ASAP! command line to load the program in
TSR mode contains an invalid path. The path that you specify on this
command line must exist.
Switch Error 252
This error is caused when the swap file that ASAP! creates when there is
not enough EMS or XMS memory available is erased or inaccessible for
some reason. Ensure the user has not deleted this file inadvertantly.
Another cause may be from an EMS or XMS memory manager error.
Help File is in Use
If a user presses the <F1>=Help key and this message displays, more
than likely the HELP.* files located in the ASAP! program/data directory
are flagged as read-only. Or, the user does not have sufficient access
rights to the ASAP! program directory. See the installation section for a
listing of required access rights.
User List File In Use
If you have flagged the USERLIST.* files as Read-Only, this message
displays, and the users cannot access the program. If you are concerned
the users may inadvertantly delete this file, you can use Netware's DI
(Delete Inhibit) file attribute instead of the RO (Read-Only) attribute.Technical Support

Welcome to ASAP! You'll find this an indispensable tool for organizing the tons
of information that flows over your desk.
With ASAP!, you can manage your (and other's) calendar, Address Book,
telephone messages, and even "talk" live to other users on your network in real
time using the Group Chat feature.
You'll find the program extremely easy to use and operate, since all available
keys are displayed at the bottom of the window in a consistant manner, and each
feature contains detailed context-sensitive HELP so you don't have to refer to the
printed documentation in the event you need information on how to complete a
task within the program.
Starting ASAP!
Your systems administrator should have set up ASAP! for your use. Usually, a
menu item selection is all that is needed to begin using the program. Once
selected, you are then presented with the program's main menu screen. Using
your Cursor (Arrow) keys, you can move the highlight bar to a function, then
press the <Enter> key. Doing so will present you with another menu of
available options. Again, using the cursor keys, move the highlight bar to a
menu option, then press the <Enter> key to select the function.
If your systems administrator has not set up a menu item for the program, you
must know the location of the program, or the name of the batch file used to start
the program. Please see your systems administrator if you do not have a menu
item for starting ASAP!. It may be that you do not have sufficient access rights
to the program. If you need to use the program and do not have sufficient access
rights, your systems administrator can help you get started with the program.
Running ASAP! in TSR Mode
Some computers can run ASAP! in a mode known as "Resident", or
sometimes called "TSR" mode. If your computer is equipped with 2 megabytes
or more of memory, and are using an expanded or extended memory manager,
ASAP! can be run so that the program can be called up on top of other programs
by pressing the HOT KEY (ALT+INS). In other words, you could be working
in your spreadsheet or word processing program, and have ASAP! "pop-up" on
top of the program. When you leave ASAP!, you are returned in the same place.
Usually, your systems administrator has installed ASAP! for your use using the
best possible configuration. If you are technically able to modify your
configuration, you can use the following guidelines for running ASAP! on your
system:
Command Line Parameters
ASAP! (/t) (path)
/t Run ASAP! in TSR mode
path Path to write temporary swap files. If ASAP! does not
find enough available extended or expanded memory to
switch into, it will write a temporary file which contains
some portion of memory (this is known as task-switching).
The temporary drive path should specify a local hard disk
if available. Writing these files to a network drive can
affect workstation and general network performance.Requirements
To use ASAP!, you must have an IBM PC/XT/AT or PS/2 compatible computer,
with at least 480K RAM free. You must be connected to a Novell Netware 286
or 386 File Server. Your machine can have a monochrome, CGA, EGA, or
VGA monitor. You need to be using DOS version 3.1 or higher, with
FILES=30 and BUFFERS=20 statements in your CONFIG.SYS file.
If you plan on running ASAP! in TSR mode (see page 4), you will need to have
at least 2 Megabytes total system memory and be using an extended (XMS) or
expanded (EMS) memory manager. You can run ASAP! in TSR mode on
machines with no XMS or EMS memory, but performance will not be
satisfactory.
Please see your Systems Administrator if you do not know how to configure your
machine properly.
User's Guide to ASAP!
The Keyboard
Above all else, ASAP! is designed with the inexperienced user in mind. The
keyboard has been carefully planned to be both consistent and easy to use.
Familiarize yourself with the basic concepts of the keyboard:
Navigational Keys, such as the up, down, left and right cursor (arrow) keys, are
used to move the highlight bar to a menu option.
The <Enter> key is used to select a menu item, input data into an entry box,
or add a blank line while editing a text or phone messages. It is also used to
move to the next field in a data entry field.
The <Esc> key is used to back out of an operation. If you go into a menu or
function that you did not intend to access, you can use this key to return to the
previous level. While typing your message, pressing this key signifies the end
of the text entry function.
The <Insert> and <Delete> keys are used to insert and delete text while
editing a message or entering data into an entry box.
Function Keys, such as <F2>, <F3>, or <F8> are assigned different
meanings depending on the currently selected operation (however, the <F1> key
ALWAYS means HELP). The bottom of the screen defines the meaning of the
available function keys. If you do not know what function a particular key
performs, pressing the Help key provides detailed information on each available
key during the selected operation. The Main Menu

As you can see from the display above, the Phone Messages taken by ASAP!
look a lot like the standard interoffice telephone notepads in which you are
familiar. Note the following features of all telephone messages:
■ Messages are automatically time and date stamped, using the File
Server's date and time.
■ Messages are automatically stamped with the message taker's full
name.Taking Telephone Messages
ASAP! allows you to take phone messages for other users on your network
system. This feature may help cut down on the amount of paper flowing around
your office. The messages that you take for another user can be added to his
personal Address Book manager, in case the number is an often-used one that he
would like to store permanently. The screen below shows how you can type a
phone message using ASAP!'s "Take a Message" function.

As you can see above, ASAP!'s Phone Message pad looks a lot like the "pink
slip" phone message pads that just about everyone is familiar with. To complete
the form, simply fill in the blanks, and select "Y" or "N" to the prompts. If you
do not know the User ID of the recipient of the message, you can press the
<F5>=List Users key to obtain a listing of all available network users.Address Book Manager
The Address Book allows you to store, print, edit and search personal and public
"rolodex" cards. You can attach a "notepad" to each of the entries, and even
export the data to other programs.
Note that if you are running ASAP! in resident mode, you cannot press the "Hot
Key" to switch out while the Address Book is active. You must leave the
Address Book before you can switch out of ASAP!.

can press the <Esc> key to save or discard the changes.
<F3>=Options Pressing this key displays several options, including Print,
Search, Sort and Export.
Printing: To print the current record, or all records in your
Address Book, select this option. the record(s) are
printed to your currently selected network printer.
Sorting: You can sort the Address Book data by several
criteria, including Last Name, Company, City,
State and Work Telephone. To organize your data,
simply select the sort field, press <Enter> and
you data is organized by the selected field.
Searching:To locate a specific record in your Address Book,
select this function from the Options Menu. You
are prompted to select one of 5 fields in which to
sort by: Last Name, Company, City, State and
Work Telephone. For example, if you need to
located an entry whose last name is "JONES", press
the <F3> key, select "Search," "Last Name",
then type in "JONES." If found, you are placed on
the matching record. If no exact match is found,
you are placed on the next closest record.
Exporting:You can use the data in your Address Book in other
programs, such as WordPerfect, Lotus 123, or PC
FILE. By using the Export feature on the <F3>
menu, you can instruct ASAP! to create a file to be
used in these other programs. When selected, two
options are made available to you: WordPerfect
Merge and ASCII Delimited File.
The first option, WP Merge, allows you to create a
WordPerfect 5.x secondary merge file which
contains the records in your Address Book. You
can then perform a WP Merge function using this
data and a primary document file (see your
WordPerfect User's Manual for more information
regarding the Merge Function).
The other file format supplied by the Export feature
is ASCII delimited. This is a general purpose
"comma separated" file that many programs can
import. For instance, you can import an ASCII
Delimited file into PC FILE III, then use that
program to edit, add or print the data. However,
once you have edited the data in other programs,
you cannot re-import the data back into ASAP!'s
Address Book.
The Notepad
ASAP!'s Notepad feature is a simple word processing program that allows you
to import and export data into and from other programs. For instance, if you are
working on a spreadsheet, and need to include a section of the spreadsheet into
a telephone message or word processor, you can use the Notepad to "cut" the
information from the spreadsheet program, then paste it anywhere else, including
other programs.
To "cut" information from another program, perform the following steps (You
must be running ASAP! in "TSR" or resident mode to accomplish this):
1. From the spreadsheet program, press the "Cut" key:
<Ctrl>+<Left Shift>+<Del>. A box displays in the upper left-
hand corner of the display. This indicates that ASAP! is ready to cut the
screen image and place it in the Notepad.
2. Using the arrow keys, size the block so that it is large enough to
accomodate the text in the display.
3. Using the Numeric keypad (in "Numlock" mode), use the arrow keys so
move the block over the text you want to cut.
4. When you have sized and moved the block to accomodate the text, press
the <Enter> key. The text is then copied into your Notepad. Pasting the Notepad in Other Programs
If you would like to "paste" or insert the contents of your Notepad into anther
program, such as a Word Processing application, you can use the paste key, and
the contents of your Notepad are inserted into the document just as if you had
typed it from the keyboard. For example, perform the following:
1. First, make sure there is text in your Notepad by selecting the "Notepad"
feature from the "Desktop". If no text exists, you can type some in there,
or use the "Cut" feature described above:
2. Switch out of ASAP! using the Hot Key or "Stay Resident" menu item.
3. Load your favorite Word Processing program.
4. Press the "Paste" key:
<Ctrl>+<Left Shift>+<Ins>
5. You'll see that the text is inserted into the document just as if you had
typed it yourself. You can press the "Paste" key as many times as you'd
like.

Line Message
To send a one line message that appears at the bottom of a user's screen, select
this menu item from the "Utils" menu. When selected, a listing of all available
network users displays, and you can move the highlight bar to a user and press
the <Enter> key to select. You can then type the text of your message, and it
will be sent to the selected user.
Users that are currently logged into the network are noted with an asterisk (*) to
the left of the window. Users that are not logged into the network cannot receive
a line message.
This message is not saved to a file or any other database. The selected user must
be logged into the network in order for this function to work. If you would like
to test this feature, select your User ID as the target, then type a message to
yourself. You should receive a single, one line message at the bottom of the
screen that requires a <Ctrl>+<Enter> to clear.
Network Printer
ASAP!'s Network Printer function allows you to manage your network printer
connection. This connection affects your total network session, not just ASAP!.
If you need to change your currently selected network printer, just pop up
ASAP!, change it via this command, and all other network software programs
will honor this new setting.
When selected, a listing of all available network printer devices is displayed in
a window. You can use the Up and Down arrow keys to move to a print device,

you. If you do not know what the print options mean, you can simply select the
default values. For a more detailed description of the available print options, see
your network documentation, or ask your Systems Administrator.
Secure Terminal
Secure Terminal allows you to lock up your console. This protects your terminal
from unauthorized use while you are away from your desk. If you are leaving
your desk for extended periods of time, you should log off the network rather
than use this function. When selected, this function asks you for a password.
Type a 1-10 character password, then press the <Enter> key. The system will
be locked until the correct password is entered.User Preferences
To access User Preferences, select "Utilities" from the Main Menu, then move
the highlight bar to "User Preferences" and press the <Enter> key.

To select an option, move the highlight bar to the appropriate choice, then press
the <Enter> key, or press <Down Arrow> to move to the next choice. Two
of the selections allow you to type in text. For instance, you can type your
Desktop password. Preferences Description
Beep On Errors Select "Yes" if you want ASAP! to alert you on problems
or other events.
Color Palette Select a number from 1 to 4 that matches your taste in
screen colors. You may want to try each of the available
color palettes to find one you like.
Explode WindowsSelect "Yes" in this field if you want the effect of
"exploding windows" when a menu or box is drawn on the
screen. Selecting "No" in this field disables this effect.
Desktop Stats Enable this option if you like seeing the "Desktop
Statistics" window while at the main menu.
Desktop PasswordAdding a password to your desktop ensures that other users
will not be able to view your Calendar or Addres Book
information unless they know this password.
Print Banners Select "Yes" for this option if you want your print jobs to
be preceded with a Netware "Banner" page. Selecting
"No" in this field suppresses this banner page (and saves
paper!)
Print FormFeedsSpecify "Yes" to this option if you need a "FormFeed"
control at the end of your print jobs. If your printer
requires that you press the "Form Feed" button to eject a
page, turn this option on.
US-Style Zip If you live outside the USA, you may want to disable this
option so the US-style area code is not defaulted in
telephone messages.Index
