  4.                 Exporting Q&A data to Alpha FOUR

  6. If you have data in Q&A format you can export directly from
  7. within Q&A to the dBASE III (.DBF) format that Alpha FOUR uses.
  8. To transfer the data simply get into Q&A with the database loaded
  9. and export the entire Q&A file into dBASE III format. Then simply
  10. choose this newly created database as you would any other Alpha
  11. FOUR created database.

  13. If you want to add the records from your Q&A database into a pre-
  14. existing Alpha FOUR database try the following. Perform an export
  15. within Q&A to a .DBF format. At the "Merge Spec" option enter
  16. numbers corresponding with the data fields in the order that they
  17. appear in the Alpha FOUR database. If your LNAME field is # 5 in
  18. the list of fields in Alpha FOUR then assign it #5 here. Once the
  19. database has been created you can treat it just like any database
  20. created in Alpha FOUR. To get the two databases into one you
  21. should append the exported database into the existing Alpha FOUR
  22. database using the Alpha FOUR append utility. Be careful about
  23. field names in the Q&A database. If your field names contain
  24. characters other than letters, numbers, or underscores, Alpha
  25. FOUR will not accept it as a valid field name. A good suggestion
  26. is to change the structure of the Q&A .DTF file prior to
  27. exporting it so that all the field names are valid dBASE field
  28. names.
