AZ: A male Arizona teacher was accused of fondling a 16 year old girl, but
the charges were dropped. It seems that in AZ unless physical force
is used, there is nothing illegal in his actions. Enraged parents &
citizens are lobbying to change the law. [ed: NOT Illegal??????????]

SD: A man was apparently having a helluva good time, and didn't need yet
yet another drink. This was evident as he walked into a bar & asked
the bartender for a drink. You see, the "bar" was actually a Police
Station, and the "bartender" was their Dispatcher. [ed: "hic" ]

OK: In Tulsa, a widow filed a lawsuit for 40 million dollars against a
Texas evangelist. The woman said he sent repeated letters to her
deceased husband, soliciting donations saying God would restore his
health. [ed: That's a neat trick...must be TIGHT with the big Guy!]

??: Psycho Killer Comics - they're real & unfortunately so. The 1st issue
features the Manson murders, with a half nude Sharon Tate begging for
her life, Manson clutching a knife says "Look bitch, I have no mercy
for you." Publishers claim the purpose is to "promote an understanding
of the tragic circumstances." [ed: Sure, Promote THIS bub!]

Dear Mr. President! Copy, Sign and Send if you desire!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
President Bill Clinton
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, D.C. 20500

Dear President Clinton,

While in Ohio you told the audience to tell you were you could cut the
budget more. This letter is intended to make suggestions on where to
eliminate unnecessary spending.
Having listened to your speeches since that time, it is clear you are re-
lying upon the Grace Report; making statements that you intend cutting
such outdated programs as:
the Tennessee Valley Authority and Rural Electricity Administration.
Further, may it be suggested you seriously consider the following list of
items and actions to be taken to reduce the spending.
1. Stop all subsidizing to the Tobacco Industry.
2. Stop support of the Public Broadcasting system, $326.5 million.
3. Reduce the $700 million yearly budget of Amtrak, forcing them to become
profitable by streamlining their services and administration controls.
4. Eliminate the Bonneville Power Project.
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Dear Mr. President!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

5: Stop subsidizing Arts & Humanities
6: Military bases - close those that are too costly to maintain
and or upgrade.
7: Roll back the 43% pay increase Congress gave themselves,
8: Eliminate the "Wine Tasting Board"
9: Eliminate the "Ketchup Tasting Board"
10: Eliminate elevator operators - let the Congressional
members push the buttons themselves.
11: Reconsider the Camp David Accord and trim, in a major way,
the foreign aid sent to support Israel and Egypt. Granted, their
peaceful co-existence in the Middle East is important, but the
financial support to these two nations, a bribe to keep them from
warring with one another, has reached such an enormous amount it is
almost extortion rather than aid.

Further, in the 1992 budget for the United States, the following items
were listed. These items are luxuries, not necessities, they too can
be eliminated from the budget.

Mr. Clinton, as a middle-class American I am more than willing to do my
part and fair share. I am even willing to pay additional taxes if I know
for certain they will be used to pay against the deficit and not spent by
the Congress on other frivolous items. Not only do we, the American
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Dear Mr. President!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
citizen, have to do his/her part but Congress must also. They too must
cut their spending and eliminate the "special" perks to their home states.
They too must cut back and make sacrifices. It will not matter if the
American tax-payer pays more to their government, if the Congressional
members fail to reduce their spending, as they have so frequently shown
us before.
This country does not belong to the government. It belongs to us, the
citizenry. Since we are the owners and controlling parties, it is about
time the Congressional employees we place in Washington, Senators and
Congressmen alike, do as we say rather than what they want. If employed
in the private section, their actions would have brought them termination
from employment. Some congressional members discovered this to be the
case in the last election. It is certain it will occur again if they fail
to perform by cutting their excessive spending, as the American employer
desires.
Thank you for your time Mr. President.
Respectfully submitted,

An American Tax payer

If Men Got Pregnant.....
* Maternity leave would last two years... with full pay.
* There'd be a cure for stretch marks.
* Natural childbirth would be obsolete.
* Morning sickness would rank as the nation's #1 health problem.
* All methods of birth control would be improved to 100% effective.
* Children would be kept in the hospital until toilet trained.
* Men would be eager to talk about commitment.
* Fathers would demand their sons be home from dates by 10:00 p.m.
* Paternity suits would be a line of clothes.
* They'd stay in bed for the entire nine months.
* Most restaurants would list ice cream & pickles as an entree.
* Women would rule the world.

Rene Descartes walked in a bar & sat down. The barkeep asked if he wanted
a drink. Rene pondered & said "I think not." & *POOF*, Rene disappeared.

2 psychologists were talking. One said, "I had breakfast with my mother
yesterday, & I made a terrible Freudian slip. I meant to ask for the hot
cross buns, but instead, I said,`YOU BITCH! YOU RUINED MY LIFE!'"

.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Phrase Craze!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's entertainment! Phrases from the movie industry.

* Behind the scenes: back in old England, plays presented were generally
long in duration. As a result, much activity of the play, in order to
shorten it, was represented as having happened, but not displayed on the
stage. The audience soon began calling all those incidents to occur off
stage as behind the scenes. The phrase stayed and is commonly used today
in reference to all things to happen off screen or off stage.
* Cameo, a fine piece of jewelry not costing a high price, was common to
old Europe. It was jewelry that was often sold on the streets for a
small price. The layers of seashells and gemstones gave it a rich color
and made it a highly prized purchase. Theater took the phrase to mean
a famous person, not necessarily charging a great deal, but one who is
prized, showing their delight in that person's appearance on stage in a
film.
* Green-eyed monster: believe it or not, the phrase we commonly use to
describe jealousy comes to us from the world of theater. The first to
use the phrase was Wm Shakespeare. He used it in Othello, act III. The
public liked it so much they began using it and it has remained with us
since.

Poetry -*- Drawer "The Darker Side" (c)1992 C.Jaye Anders
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You never see the darker side,
And yet you hunt the light,
You cannot take yourself in stride,
For something's just not right.
You do not like the darker side,
For evil must wear black,
But if by faith you would abide,
You'd find God's love in fact.
The darker side may stumble,
It may cause pain and fear,
But if there is a brighter part,
Then Dark, its purpose here.
You see, my friend, if truth be told,
There's nothing with 1 side,

.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Boardwatch 100 Reader's Choice Bulletin Board Contest
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
RULES FOR CALLERS: Each voter can vote once, for a single bulletin board
system. Each ballot must be fully completed, & individually mailed by each
voter. One vote per address, & we will verify ballots as necessary. There
are three ways to vote:

1. Printout and complete this ballot and mail to:
BOARDWATCH MAGAZINE
READERS CHOICE BBS CONTEST
5970 South Vivian Street
Littleton, CO 80127

2. Print out, complete this ballot and FAX to (303)973-3731.

3. Or, dial the Boardwatch BBS at (303)973-4222 and complete the online
ballot provided on the main menu.

Balloting closes at 23:59:59, June 30, 1993.

This contest is not limited to Boardwatch Magazine subscribers, and no
purchase of any kind is required to participate in this contest.
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Boardwatch 100 Reader's Choice Bulletin Board Contest
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: We held this contest during 1992 and it generated 11,152 votes by
the close of balloting for some 1250 different BBSes. The TOP system
received about 450 votes. Your individual vote can have a tremendous
impact on the outcome of this contest. Further, the odds of winning a
modem in last years contest, were 1 in 1394 (8 modems awarded).

RULES FOR BBS OPERATORS: Bulletin Board Operators may encourage callers
to vote for their system by offering whatever inducements/encouragements
they like. There is one rule to this contest for BBS operators. YOU MAY
NOT HANDLE ANY VOTE AFTER THE CALLER HAS COMPLETED THE BALLOT. YOU MAY NOT
HANDLE IT IN ANY WAY.

You may provide callers with anything you like, including postage paid
envelopes, printed matter, solicitations, etc. But once they've completed
a ballot, if you touch, handle, or otherwise deal with the ballot in any
way, your BBS will be disqualified from the contest without appeal or
recourse.

If you wish to post an electronic ballot on your BBS, you may post this
file IN ITS ENTIRETY. You may post any additional information you feel
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Boardwatch 100 Reader's Choice Bulletin Board Contest
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
is appropriate, but this entire rules file must be available to all
callers.

Despite the fact that this contest has a minimum of rules, this one rule
does cause problems each year. You cannot post online surveys or doors to
allow voters to vote online. This is vote handling. You cannot accept
ballots & mail or fax them in for callers. The rule of thumb is pretty
clear: You can provide anything you like TO callers to induce them to vote.
There is NOTHING you can accept FROM callers in any way pertaining to this
ballot at all. THEY must complete the ballot & forward it to us themselves.

We actually received FEDEX packages on the final day of the contest last
year from BBS operators who claimed to have collected a hundred or so
votes. Infractions are dealt with quite economically - the BBS is
summarily disqualified without recourse or appeal.

One new element introduced in the 1993 contest is date scoring. All
ballots received from 1 January 1993 through 30 June 1993 will receive a
date score based on the date of receipt. Date scores will range from 180
for votes received 1 January down to 1 for votes received on June 30.
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Boardwatch 100 Reader's Choice Bulletin Board Contest
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
These date stamp values are cummulative for each BBS and will be used to
eliminate ALL ties in the TOP 100. Since ties are quite common in this
contest, it pays to get your votes in early.

This contest is open to all BBSes worldwide with the sole exception of the
Boardwatch Magazine BBS - which is ineligible. Commercial services such as
Prodigy, America Online, CompuServe, are considered to be networks and not
bulletin boards for the purposes of this contest. HOWEVER, individual
forums, roundtables, or special interest areas moderated by a specific
human SYSOP on those services & allowing callers to post messages in that
specific area ARE considered to be bulletin boards for the purposes of this
contest and may participate.

Diminsions Of The Dark by J.L. Black
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"They are tied to this hotel, through the power of the energies that
lie within this house."

"But why them and not me? I was here when this all began."

"No you were not. You slept when it began. Sleep is a form of
transferring ourselves from this world to another. The concept of
dreams and relief of the brain wave pattern is not correct. Sleep
actually trans- plants your energies, your spirit or soul to another
reality. The brain wave pattern changes because the energy of the soul
has departed the body temporarily. There are many planes of reality.
Remember this, there are many planes of reality. It is up to you to
determine which plane you are on at any given moment. The mind
generally does this in a fraction a nano- second, an activity which is
not detectable because of the speed in which it is done. We travel
from one plane of reality to another without notice. Most people do
not think in abstracts such as this and can not begin to have a
comprehension of such thoughts. We move from one dimension, generally
so rapidly, the activity of this is not even determinable. You had
already ascended to a variable dimension so you were not here and could
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Diminsions Of The Dark by J.L. Black
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
not relocate to the same dimension as the others. The reason for this
is because the brain slept, while the mind and spirit continued on into
another dimensional area."

"The difference between the brain and the mind is the soul. The brain
operates or functions with the body, whereas the mind functions with
the soul. This is the creative side of people and the area of
imagina-tion. Everyone has a soul and mind, even if the brain has been
damaged these two still function without incumbrance. The soul is not
merely an instrument of positive energies but can also become an
instrument of negative energies. This is determined when the soul is
dictated to by the materialistic brain of the physical body. This is
the concept of reincarnation," Anna lectured.

"You can not move through the varying dimension without thought
initialization from the mind develop- ing within the brain pattern. Is
this understandable to you?" She asked.

"Yes, I believe I understand. Because my thought had already
initialized a transportation to another dimension just prior to sleep,
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Diminsions Of The Dark by J.L. Black
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
it was not possible for me to become caught up in the transportation to
another dimension with the rest of the tour group."

"This is correct. Now, there are times when the variable world of
dimensional existence seem to close. This can be controlled by the
thoughts of others, generally a group of people, and at times . . ."

"One person, who has enough power, whether it be positive or negative,"
I interrupted.

"Yes. And this is what has happened here."

"But how can I help these people. I have no special power, nor enough
power to overcome this."

"The dimensional door is still open. It will remain open until dawn of
this day. You will think of a way."

"Tell me what to do Anna. I know nothing of this area we just
discussed. Tell me." Anna did not respond. Though her appearance was
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Diminsions Of The Dark by J.L. Black
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
opaque, her features were distinguishable and I recognized the faint
smile which appeared on her lips. I turned slightly to my right, to
the man who had accompanied Anna. I did not recognize this man, but
was certain I knew him. Pleading to him I asked, "Can you direct me?"

"He can not. He is restricted, as am I. He is here merely to aide me
in power. For I needed additional support to overcome the evil you
encountered when you breached the dimensional vail on the porch of this
house. Be certain to be away from this area by dawn. Not just this
house, but this hotel as well." With this Anna and her companion faded
into oblivion.

I made my way down the stairs, heading back to the hotel. I stopped to
turn and look, for what I believe to be the last time at the house
situated behind me. I will not tell you I saw this ominous figure
again looking down the stairs after me. For I am as certain of this as
I am that all of this was not a dream. As I got before the hotel's
main entrance I began contem- plating how I was to achieve the task
before me. Task, did I say task, under play of words. This indeed was
not a task but rather an unsurmountable responsibility of which I truly
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Diminsions Of The Dark by J.L. Black
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
wished no part. It seemed the cards had been dealt and I had to play
my hand out, win or lose. I knew I could not abdicate my
responsibility to the others of the tour group.

My thoughts turned back to Anna and her companion. Suddenly, as if
struck by a thunder bolt, I knew who her companion was. He was my
father, or the spirit of him. He had, at long last, visited me again.
An again when I was in time of need and understanding. Again when I
was perplexed and fearing the worst. The worst being, for me anyway,
not succeeding in what I set out to achieve. Not just achieving my
goal but also doing it with an ethical and honest performance.

An idea came to mind. Why could I not take a rope and pull these
people through the dimensional door. It might be possible. It worked
on a "Twilight Zone" show once. It is worth a try. I glanced at my
watch, 1:19. I did not have much time till dawn. It would come at
approximately 6:00 a.m. Now my rush was against time.

I entered the hotel lobby and began searching through the entire area.
Opening any door I could open. Then returning to the front desk, I
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Diminsions Of The Dark by J.L. Black
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
searched for a set of master keys to go back and open those doors which
were locked. I found no rope, nor anything which would lend itself as
a rope.

I exited the hotel and walked towards the bus. Its doors and windows
stood open. I looked within the cargo hold and found it to be empty.
I entered the bus and searched behind, under and above the seats. I
found nothing. I walked off the bus and moved to the front of it,
leaned back against it and thought about the things I had in my room.
I could think of nothing that would be strong enough to function as a
rope. When I started to push myself away from the bus I looked, I
guess for the first time, at the building before me. Indeed part of it
was the restaurant and ballroom, but the bus sat directly before what
appeared to be a garage. I walked towards it and tried the door. It
was locked. I still had a set of keys in my hand and without giving it
a thought I unlocked the door and flung it open. Once inside I noted
an old automobile, it looked like a Duesenberg, but it appeared to be
in vintage condition. In front of the auto was a table with various
tools and other items on it. I searched for a light and finally found
the switch and turned it on. As soon as I did I saw a rope. It looked

I MYTHed That One!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
MYTH: You can ease the pain of an earache by putting a few drops of warm
oil into the ear.

FACT: When the eustachian tube, which goes from the middle ear to the
back of the throat, has a build up of germs and the result is an
infection this tubing area swells and causes pain. But warm oil
is not the answer. As a matter of fact, warm oil can cause further
problems. Use of warm oil can actually cause the eardrum to per-
forated. Physicians suggest using aspirin or an aspirin substitute
to relieve the pain and placing warm compresses to the outside of
the ear to help relieve the pressure and make the liquids move
within the ear. If this does not relieve the infection then seeing
a doctor for a prescription of antibiotics is the next step.
MYTH: If you leave a room, turn out the light! It saves energy, even if
you plan on walking back into that room in a few minutes. We've
probably all heard this!
FACT: It is just not true that turning a light off in a room that you will
soon return to and turn the light back on, will save energy. Truth
is, Mom notwithstanding, it uses less energy to leave a light burn-
ing than to turn it off then on again.

Story: The defendant took the stand in his own case today where he stands

have committed the murder he was accused because at the time of the
victim's death he was busy in another part of town stabbing another
man.

HeadLine: Two Men Shot For Little Reasons
Story: Two men were shot over the past weekend for very minor reasons.
One man was shot because he tipped over another man's bottle of
beer. In the same neighborhood another man was shot for taking
a man's cowboy hat off his head when joking with him.

HeadLine: You Snore? Bang!

.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Team Eeeek serial: The Dawning of an Age "Little Black Box"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
She had done it!
KR! The founder and President of Eeeek International.

She had placed in motion a scheme to destroy the crowning achievement of
her career, a plot that would segment her team, separate their loyalties,
and ultimately scatter them to the four winds. She had done it with her
own native logic, years of programming experience and an IQ of 187. The
scheme was diabolically clever, alarmingly simple and under other
circumstances might have added a modicum or two to her already ample ego.

But all things considered, the boss wasn't having a good day.

"I've got the cable," Gabriel whispered as she slipped into the boss'
office.

KR could hardly be overjoyed at the news (Even though the plan was hers,
Gabriel had forced it on her). But in truth, the evidence for its
implementation was irrefutable. After a week and a half of digging
through the team's discarded printouts and tediously comparing them with
the User Logs, Gabriel had discovered a discrepancy: the Log registered
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Team Eeeek serial: The Dawning of an Age "Little Black Box"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
no entry into a certain classified LAN system on a particular date & time;
whereas, the printout showed clearly that such an entry had been made.

That discovery had provoked the first of many arguments between the boss
and the Chairwoman.

"That's Bee's ID code!"

"So!?!"

"Bee wouldn't steal her own program from her own work station! She'd have
no need to do that! Besides, she isn't that stupid!"

"I never said she was stupid! But it is possible that she made a
mistake!"

"What are you talking about?"

"Let's suppose that she DID take the program, for some reason as yet
undiscovered! She would have to cover the theft, right?"
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Team Eeeek serial: The Dawning of an Age "Little Black Box"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I suppose so."

"And to cover the theft, she'd have to alter the User Logs! Can you
imagine how difficult that would be? Every time she entered to erase an
entry, she'd leave new entries all over the place!"

"Since there are no such entries, that would be another argument in her
defense!"

"Maybe! But suppose someone figured that problem out! That would be a
pretty savvy software expert, don't you think?"

"...unquestionably..."

"So if this software pro only needed to erase log entries to cover her
escape, why not do it from her own work station? What better place to
hide than right in front of everybody?"

"So you're suggesting that..."
"She missed a spot!"
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Team Eeeek serial: The Dawning of an Age "Little Black Box"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"KR! Stop daydreaming!

The boss snapped out of her unpleasant reverie and turned her attention
to her equally unpleasant reality. The cable lay before her and the
little Black Box waited at the bottom of her locked drawer.

"Where'd you find the cable?"

The Chairwoman of the Board, Eeeek International, looked the boss
straight in the eye and said, "I stole it."

"You what?"
"You heard me."

KR blinked twice and delivered a question in a tone flat with disbelief.
"You're the Chairwoman of one of the biggest computer companies in the
world! Why on earth did you steal a lousy cable?"

"Think, dummie!" Gabriel snarled right back at her. "If I asked Carp for
a piece of hardware - ANY piece of hardware - he would wonder what I
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Team Eeeek serial: The Dawning of an Age "Little Black Box"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
wanted it for! What was I supposed to tell him? And if I went to the
local electronics store and bought something, THEY would probably
recognize me and THEY would wonder why I was buying hardware! No matter
WHAT I did, somebody would want to know why! So I stole the darn thing
and I'll march right up to the counter after this mess is over and admit
the whole thing! Until then, nobody knows nuthin'! Capice?"

The boss sighed one of her long, tired sighs and hated what she was doing
all the more. But what choices did she have? What choices did any of them
have? After the discovery of the first altered log entry, she and Gabriel
had discovered others. Many others. It was easy once they knew what they
were looking for. But each one made her sicker than the last. And for
the last few days it was all she could do to drag herself into work in
the morning. And she was simply incapable of looking any of the team
members in the eye: one of them was a traitor.

"So where's the Black Box?" Gabriel asked.

The boss stared blankly out the window wishing she could ignore the
question, the office, the company and the drudgery of sucking air into
`----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Team Eeeek serial: The Dawning of an Age "Little Black Box"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
her lungs.

But she finally pulled open the drawer and waved a hand helplessly over
the vile informant.

Gabriel eagerly hefted it out of hiding.

"How do we wire this thing?"

The boss let her fumble with it until the noise of the Chairwoman turning
it over and over drove her to distraction.

"Here!" the boss said pulling the Black Box away from Gabriel.

"It's designed to fit the console of an SST. We'll have to remove the
bottom plate and hot wire it to some exposed leads."

"Are we sure the software will integrate?"

WASHINGTON, Feb. 22 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Anti-Defamation League (ADL)
today hailed the reintroduction of the Brady Bill, calling the mandated
handgun waiting period "a priority for the 103rd Congress." "For the past
80 years, ADL has devoted its energies and expertise to combatting
anti-Semitism, racism, extremism, and other threats to the democratic
principles on which this nation was founded," said Melvin Salberg, ADL
national chairman and Abraham H. Foxman, ADL national director. "We have
strongly supported effective gun control measures, like the Brady Bill,
which make firearms more difficult for extremists to obtain. This
measure will also certainly contribute to a reduction in the senseless
violence now plaguing many areas of our country." "The Brady Bill
establishes a reasonable waiting period and a background check for all
would-be handgun purchasers. The bill's verification procedures will
help stop the sale of weapons to the many members of the organized hate
movement who are convicted felons -- without violating anyone's legal
rights," said Salberg and Foxman. "ADL welcomes the opportunity to work
with Rep. Schumer, Sen. Metzenbaum, and other congressional leaders to
secure passage of this important measure."

America's No. 1 Growth Industry Is Government
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
DALLAS/US Newswire: Government's become America's #1 growth industry,
slowing the private economy & leading to a more bureaucratic & less
citizen-responsive public sector, according to a report released by the
Institute for Policy Innovation, a Dallas-based public policy think tank.

- For the first time, there are more civilian government employees than
manufacturing employees in the U.S. The report shows, higher taxes, more
government workers & increased spending have not led to more efficient &
citizen-responsive government. As government's grown & the amount of money
at stake in legislative battles has increased, so has the amount of resour-
ces devoted to lobbying & influence peddling.
- In 1960 there were 365 paid lobbyists of the Senate. Today, there's over
40,000, or approximately 400 lobbyists per senator. The report concludes
the unrestrained growth of government is having 3 negative effects on our
system of democratic government & on the economy. First, it's led to more
centralized, more bureaucratic, & less citizen-responsive government.
Second, bigger government has meant less efficient government where costs
are rising & quality is eroding. Finally, higher spending, higher taxes, &
more regulation are impeding economic growth as government increasingly
crowds out productive sectors of the economy.

Justice Dept Announces Criminal Info Against Man
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
US Newswire: The following was released by the US Department of Justice:
Patrick Foley, US Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, announced a
criminal information was filed against Frank Sims Jr., charging him with
4 counts of willfully failing to file quarterly federal excise tax returns.
The charges carry a maximum penalty of 1 year imprisonment, & a fine of
$100,000 on each count. The case has been assigned to US Magistrate Judge
James Gallas, in Akron. The information alleges that during the prosecution
period, Sims conducted business as a sole proprietorship under the name
Frank's Fuel Shop, where he sold diesel fuel at retail. The information
further charges that Sims owed combined federal diesel fuel excise taxes on
those sales of approximately $116,193 for the four calendar quarters, &
willfully failed to make quarterly federal excise tax returns, form 720,
which were required to be filed by the end of the month following each
quarter. The charges filed against Sims are part of a national enforcement
initiative directed at nonfilers. The DOJ & IRS have made it a priority
to prosecute cases against persons who willfully fail to file returns or
evade taxes. At the same time the IRS instituted a national initiative to
locate nonfilers & urge them to reenter the tax system voluntarily before
they become focus of a criminal investigation. The IRS estimates more than
$7 bil.in tax revenue is lost yearly due to individuals not filing returns.

George Mitchell, joined Sarah & James Brady at a Capitol Hill press
conference to reintroduce the Brady Bill. Surrounded by dozens of school
children, James Brady, the former White House press secretary seriously
wounded in 1981, urged members of Congress to move quickly to pass & enact
the bill named for him which requires a national waiting period &
background check for handgun purchases. "In the past 4 years, I've
crisscrossed this nation," said Brady. "At nearly every stop, I meet
children. Kids who tell me that they are afraid to go to sleep at night.
Kids who tell me that they are afraid to go to school - or even afraid to
be in school." In America, 14 children die in gunfire every day, making it
